What is your favourite supernatural creature?

I do like faeries and kitsune, which I voted for in the poll. I didn't even think about mermaids, to be honest, although if we're going the more mythological bent, I was thinking Greek mythology with harpies, sirens, centaurs, satyrs, nymphs and the like, or Egyptian mythology with various types of Sphinx and the Bennu bird. I also thought of selkies and swan maidens from fairy tales. I must admit that I go for the more humanoid/partially human types because they're prettier. Do elves count?
 
I've heard of this Siberian Folklore creature latinized as "Opletai", which are basically half of a man but with their arm and leg being extremely long and windy. They drop onto travelers from the trees in the forest, before sucking out their life force, like a primitive vampire.

As a bonus, 2 of them together can stick together, which has the agility to outrun a horse in a field. This is made worse by the fact that these creatures rarely hunt alone

I never mentioned, personally I like strzygi and upiory the most.
(Strzyga and upiór are the singular form LOL. It would look weird to me to write "strzygas" and "upiórs" LOL)
I am pretty sure that if I was born ~100 years ago, I would have been an upiór

Do dragons count? I know they're mostly considered fantasy creatures, but there's huge variation across times and places in whether they're regarded as supernatural, from "all magic" to "literally a synonym for dinosaur" (early paleontology. Which makes sense, because why wouldn't you call the bones of the monstrous reptilian creature you just found by your culture's word for a reptilian monster?). Love dragons regardless and will probably keep loving them 'til the day I die.

In solidly folklore/cryptid territory, though, I love Nessie and all the similar lake/river/sea monsters around the world. The fact they are so ubiquitous is part of the appeal for me, I think. Really makes you wonder what's in the water.

I also love mothman! I stumbled across it as a kid on West Virginia's page of a book that gave facts and trivia for each of the American states. It was the first time I'd been exposed to a cryptid outside of the Nessie/Bigfoot/Yeti triad, and I was instantly hooked. I lovingly blame mothman for my cryptid obsession.

The Flatwoods monster is also a top-tier cryptid; pleasantly surprised to see it mentioned a few times in this thread already!

Yetis are fun (that's what I voted for on the poll). I have a collection of yeti plush that comes out every winter despite my climate's distinct lack of snow.

I absolutely love gargoyles and wish I could have a real one protecting my house.

Griffins are cool too; definitely one of my favorite mythological creatures.

Some favorite cryptids/folklore creatures I haven't seen mentioned in this thread are Fresno Nightcrawlers and the snallygaster. Nightcrawlers come from security camera footage around Fresno, California and look like a pair of white pants walking around on their own. The snallygaster is from the American north-east and looks like...well...this.

I'd say my favourite folk creatures are the Nordic Small Folk. The elves, trolls, which are this mysterious, hidden parallel society. They do a lot of creepy things to people (or pranks) but can be helpful as well. I like the vibe that they are sentient, thinking creatures. The tales of them are often more sinister than the usual fare of "monster from the woods" and involve direct communication between the man and the magical.

They are also quite good at absorbing changes in human culture, in Iceland there is for example a tradition of 12 prankster trolls who show up one by one for 12 days before Christmas to do mischief and leave gifts.
 
mothman is super fucking cool, especially the idea of it appearing before major disasters is really cool, even though i think that aspect is always kinda glossed over. the jersey devil is one of the coolest and creepiest cryptid legends, and used to make me terrified every time i went to the beach because we'd have to go through the pine barrens, where it supposedly lives. fukatuchi-onna and the hopkinsville goblin are the inspiration for sableye and mawile so i kinda have to love them by default. fresno nightcrawlers i love simply because they're really fucking funny and weird. speaking of really fucking funny and weird, i also love the flatwoods monster. i also can't make this post without listing nessie because that is my namesake :swirlix:. oh yeah, aliens! crazy how that's not on the poll, i'm really partial to the classic roswell bug eyed men type myself.
