What niche/non-mainstream music genres are you into?

Genres other than pop, rap, mainstream rock, r&b (the last two aren't in the charts anymore but anyhow).

I'm big on New Age and ambient music. Any thoughts on them?
 
Hiphop isn't considered mainstream? That's probably my favourite genre right now. Ambient music and EDM too. They're all broad genres, so not too niche maybe. What kind of ambient music do you like? @RTLfan

Pretty much all except for dark ambient. What about you?
 
I love sunshine pop. It's a genre of pop music from the late 60s that has psychedelic and easy listening influences. Eternity's Children, The Association, Harper's Bizarre, The Free Design, etc, are just a few artists from the genre.
 
I listen to many genres that aren't "mainstream", but perhaps the one that comes first to mind for me is medieval music. No, not "bardcore", no not "medieval folk" (like you hear in medieval fantasy games), actual genuine medieval music (as best as we know, I mean).

People look at me funny when I say I love this kind of music. lol. No one wants to hear about that. And fortunately I also have plenty of more mainstream music tastes, as long as you like classic Soul & R&B.

I frequently like to say that pop Music stopped being good somewhere around 17 century lol
So called "Early music" is really cool, I especially was interested in reconstructed instruments. The search for "authenticity" in music is a pretty big question for performers and musicologists.
Bardcore is a fascinating phenomenon in its own right. This fantasy of what music used to be like vs how early music is performed by the "mainstream" of classical musicians, vs the reconstruction efforts...the contrast is very interesting.

I am interested in microtonal music, which is not really a genre, but
..sometimes it kind of is LOL.
That interest overlaps with my interest in early music: just intonation is now frequently lumped in with other microtonal systems.
Microtonal music is kind of mainstream in many places around the world though. But not in Euro or US "pop".

Other than that, noise, drone, avantgarde, experimental, all that stuff

I don't have any mainstream music tastes except maybe doom metal and 80s goth

What do you think about Gothabilly then? I love its aesthetic even though I'm no longer into goth in general.
