Okay, so we already have a minor complaint thread and a minor praise thread. We also had a thread on what you thought ORAS could improve on from the RSE games. However, as much as we may praise, complain, or theorize, we all have things about the games that we wish were different. The purpose of this thread is what you think ORAS should have done, but didn't really do it (at least maybe not in the way you wanted).

So, if it were up to you, what should ORAS have done? Discuss!

The Battle Frontier. I'm still holding out hope that it might come as DLC, though. (However unlikely that may be)

The ability to challenge Gym leaders and Zinnia, And maybe some more event legendaries like Deoxys

-Two words: DEX. EXPANSION. There's so much wrong with the game's variety that it pretty much needed more Pokemon in the Hoenn Dex. For one, there's too few Ice, Ghost, and Dragon types, and increasing the number of Fire, Fighting, and Fairy types would be nice as well. Second, the distribution as a whole is pretty diluted, 209 Pokemon isn't enough to go around. Some areas have only a handful of Pokemon (such as the areas around Mt. Chimney) and some have absolutely nothing unique (such as the Water routes and Rt. 123). The Hoenn Dex should've been more in the range of 250-300.
-Some way to get the HA Pokemon not in XY, which includes:

-2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th gen starters
-Every Fossil
-Munchlax/Snorlax
-Sentret/Furret
-Qwilfish
-Burmy/Wormadam/Mothim
-Hippopotas/Hippowdon
-Patrat/Watchog
-Karrablast/Escavalier
-Shelmet/Accelgor
-Maybe some legendaries

-Post game areas that don't take less than a minute to explore. A good way to go about doing this would be to start with the Battle Frontier, and add in paths to the islands nearby, creating a nice Sevii Islands type of area.
-More Pokemon overall. There's only 470something Pokemon in the game. There should at least be 500 (luckily, all of my other suggestions should take care of this because they all help push the number of Pokemon up).

Those are all of the major things I can think of.

Oh yeah, I forgot about gym leader rematches.

Agreed

plus on top of that, make it so you have to do every contest for each pokemon (because aparently you can skip up to master if one pokemon has already beaten it)

As for myself, the following is what I'd do:
  • Have both Team Magma and Team Aqua be a threat, have both legendaries awaken, and battle each other in their Primal Reversion state. You'd have to go ask Mega Rayquaza for help, but your mascot merely gets driven into the Cave of Origin instead of disappearing like its counterpart.
  • The Battle Resort would be the Battle Frontier + Battle Masion, as well as having the Battle Institute, a Battle Chateau-like area, and Trainer Hill. I'd also keep the second Day-Care Center, with with the added perk that this Day-Care Center would always guarantee the higher IV stats between the two parents.
  • we'd have to stop Zinnia after she goes mad due to Rayquaza choosing us over her.
  • Altering Cave would be back, working like XY's Friend Safari, but with different Pokémon.
  • Cosplay Pikachu would be able to evolve into five different special Raichu based on the current costume and maxed-out Contest stat.
  • Gym Leader rematches and a combination of of RS and Emerald teams.

I'd just make Brick Break the new Rock Smash (good power, same field effects) and give a subtle explanation on why Zinnia has that feral look during battle. Other than that, it's great the way it is.

I wish Zinnia had more of a role before the Delta Episode. Not necessarily a prominent role, but at least have her pop up every once in a while so the player doesn't forget about her between Petalburg Woods and DE. Something along the lines of the Kimono Girls in HGSS would have been perfect.

They really improved the diving in ORAS, but thinking about it, I wish there were more dive spots, like on Routes 105 and 106.

They could have added a battle round to Contest Spectaculars. Aside from the special appeal after the Pokémon fills the excitement gauge, Contests are pretty much the same. I wish they were more like the anime Contests.

But the preparation for them has changed, and this has made Contests much easier. Sheen is gone, Natures have no effect, and Pokéblocks are made automatically. Also, Wi-Fi contests, why they didn't give us Wi-Fi contests?

The way it said talent round made me think there was a battle round, got my hype so deflated to do them afterwards. Anyways, based on the games alone I made a list of things they could've done to mix in emerald stuff:
-If the Pokenav was brought over from Johto, the Rustboro quest could have been used not to give us Buzznav, but to upgrade trainer eye to match call. It would work as it has an old firmware, and this new one is freshly coded, a beta release in Hoenn only if you will.
-Rayquaza could have popped up in the main quest to quell the fighting, but upon seeing you as a trainer, flees to the sky pillar to await your challenge. Would help develop Zinnia's plot, as she would want to also challenge you to see why Rayquaza felt it necessary.
-The base locations being in the same place, come on Gamefreak. This one out of all could have worked the most, and this is the only one that doesn't need to be based off of the games.
-Gym rematches, which tie into the first E4 rematch. The way I see things, it could have gone down like this. Episode Delta finishes with Wallace taking over Stevens place seemingly, and Juan coming soon for the Sootopolis gym. Well, they could have given us a chance to first beat Juan, and then go through the rematches. The process would be that Wallace needs to challenge you, but can't because Juan wants to battle you first for the Rain Badge you own to actually count. In turn, this allows you to rechallenge the E4, with the adjusted levels to actually challenge Champion Wallace. After beating him, he stays as champion however, as a ceremonial position more then anything. Now that you have cemented your position as Hoenn Champion, you can then challenge the gym leaders again. If they pulled the Regigigas shit, then they could have made this line of work happen.

Seriously, small tweaks that could have made huge changes.

I would have made it a sequel. That would have given the chance to add new towns and overall expand the Hoenn region. I would also have revamped the Battle Frontier to incorporate some of the Gen IV facilities. The Dex also need a serious revamping. The Pokemon distribution in Hoenn is dire. There's only two Ghost type families in Hoenn. The Gym Leader rosters also needed serious changing. Wallace needed a full team of six with his Milotic being at level 59 like Wulfric's Avalugg. All the Gym Leaders levels should have been higher. They were every bit as weak as they were in the originals. Norman's team should have been in the mid 30's. At that point everybody has their fully evolved starter so there's no need for him to be so weak.

The Elite Four also should have used full teams with national pokedex Pokemon in the first round. I also would have liked to have a seen PWT like feature added to the Battle Frontier. Personally I would have added the Elite Four, Champions, and evil team leaders. I should also mention difficulty settings are a must have in any game these days. Pokemon especially needs them.

For me, I really would have liked the Battle Frontier (That probably will never happen ever in the future history of ever in all the games to come.) and Rematches with the Gym Leaders.
Also, maybe Steven moving to Meteor Falls and being that extra boss Trainer like Red was. Juan would then be Gym Leader, and Wallace would be Champion.
And maybe a little bit of some Pokemon changed around in the rematches, like in Emerald or the original RS. I know these to Pokemon Breeders that you battle that never evolve their Pokemon even in the final rematch, where they did so in Emerald. For example, in ORAS, there is Aron, but in (maybe RS) Emerald, it's Lairon.

Or, just a remake of Emerald entirely. That probably will never happen though.

If they added character customization it would have been the best game ever (for me that is).

However the battle frontier has been hinted at along with Steven stepping down so it is possible, as a DLC, they could create a 'Emerald' expansion pack.

Personally, I felt that the trip to Southern Island after defeating Norman felt too out of place, considering how Mega Evolution was brought up and then then promptly ignored until the Delta Episode. Considering how the Delta Episode mentioned Zinnia's involvement in the earlier Groudon/Kyogre plot, I would have liked to have seen her show up now and then during the events of the main story.

I also think Contests need a complete overhaul compared to what we were given in the final product. One night I thought to myself "I know, I'll try contests!" so I gave a random Skitty some pink Pokéblocks and starting out from Normal Rank, I had the Master Rank cleared in about an hour. I would have preferred at least the Hyper and Master Ranks to actually be challenging and for it to be harder to obtain Pokémon that could curb-stomp the whole thing.

If they added character customization it would have been the best game ever (for me that is).

That was another thing I forgot. Customization should've been kept and to keep with Hoenn's nature theme, they should've made the clothing selection more rugged and adventurey.

Battle Frontier
The Pokémon World Championships (Similar to the B2/W2 PWT, but with pretty much every noteworthy character in the games)
Expanded roles for the Regi's and Lati's
Deoxys NOT being the only even Pokémon available in-game. -_-

Eh, I think that's in the same boat as following Pokemon, it's one of those things that would be overwhelming to do because of the sheer number of characters and the 3D only makes things worse. It was convenient in BW2 because most of the work was already done, they simply copy/pasted everything over from the 4th gen games and only needed to make sprites for the 3rd gen characters. Now they would have to redo 1st, 2nd, 4th, AND 5th gen characters.

Expanded roles for the Regi's and Lati's

The Latis did get expanded roles. The Regis though, they got completely screwed.
