Hi. This is my first post here.

Starting from July 2009, I've been watching pokemon episodes from the very beginning. By the last week of December or so, I will have completed Diamond and Pearl[first season], and all of Kanto and the Orange Islands.

I don't know what to watch after that.

May won't be in this year, so there's a reason to watch the advanced generation.

But since I'd be a third of the way through Sinnoh, maybe I should continue that, then do Johto or Hoenn next....

I figure Hoenn is technically the end[disregarding May in her Sinnoh appearances], but Johto could also be considered an end...

I wouldnt suggest watching Johto because most people dont like it. A Johto ep every now and then might be nice, but watching the whole series would get reaaaally boring. The Johto saga was cute, but it was very repetitive.

I 100% suggest the Hoenn saga. The episodes seem different from OS and DP ones. May is especially fun to watch because of how much she grows. Theres some good action in the last part of AG too, if thats what your after. A lot of people have something to complain about when it comes to AG, but I think its deffinitely worth a watch.

And I wouldnt reccomend Sinnoh season 2. I thought season 1 was nice, but after that... well, I just plain dont like it. The episodes seemed really boring to me, and the characters seemed really bland. I guess Dawn has her little emo phase, but even that got old.

Thanks for repsonding!

I can imagine the Johto region was boring. Only 100 new pokemon to introduce, and 158 episodes, the most of any region.

I actually watch every single episode, even if some seem to be...... lame. I guess it's kind of a flaw.

I'd just go in order:

Kanto - Orange - Johto - AG - DP

Or if you want to see current eps, you could skip to Sinnoh.

The best course of action, I think, would just be to watch the series in order. You pick up on the winks and small details that you wouldn't otherwise, and wouldn't have to wonder "wait, why is this like this" or "how did that happen". I'd probably say to continue off from the end of OI to the end of AG, maybe watching DP at the same time in order to stay current.

Um, I completely disagree. XD Johto has occurances that you'll want resolved after OI and other things that will come to be mentioned later, like the status of Ash's Kanto Pokémon, Gary's and Misty's diverging paths at the end, showing what happened to the GS Ball (...kinda), Jessie's backstory with Blissey, the introductions of main cast Pokémon (Wobbuffet, Forretress, and Phanpy are especially of relevance to AG), introductions of characters who appear later on and characters who had appeared earlier, etc. Like it or not, it's an important part of the series.

Besides, Johto goes by fast if you're watching it all in a short period of time instead of seeing one new episode a week for three years. It's only really the middle year that dragged on, and the last year was simply great. You can't tell me a series that has such episodes and storylines like the third movie, Chikorita's character, The Super-Hero Secret, Fortune Hunters, Air Time, the Baby Lugia arc, the Red Gyarados two-parter, Clair's episodes, the Larvitar arc, and the Silver Conference should be skipped. Sure, you can probably miss "random, boring filler episode introducing a Johto Bug-type Pokémmon #1493" without missing much, but as a whole it's nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

70% of Johto is still filler. You could arguably skip most of the region and not miss anything important.

I watch every single episode. Would it be more interesting if I watched the episodes out of order? As in, Johto episode 1, then 5,then 2, then 10...... for example.

I'm watching the Kanto episodes kind of out of order, and it doesnt do much, but it's a little bit more interesting than watching in order.

If you want to watch every episode, then just watch them in order. There are some eps you'll hate, but for all the bad eps there are good ones too.

Interesting thing. When I tried to slog through every episode (which began in late 2007), I ended up getting to the end of Orange Islands before my source lost all of their OS episodes. So I skipped to Hoenn, and really enjoyed those eps. Once I got to the end of Season 8, I found a new source with all the episodes and debated what to do next.

At the time, I was still in my "THE PUSA DUB SUCKS, THEY RUINED POKEMON!!!!" phase, so I went back to Johto. I got to Charizard's release and thought "OMG, this is really boring!" so I watched Battle Frontier instead, and it was quite enjoyable. I'm currently at DP025, and once I get to the end of season 10 I might go back to Johto. (As season 11 was where I started following current episodes)

I suggest starting from EP1 and ending at the last aired EP of Galactic Battles. Plain and simple...

I sugest you the same. If you want to be the most up to date you should watch episodes in order. I also did it by myself not long ago. I know it can be boring sometimes but it's the only way to find out how the all things work.

I would do what I'm doing. Get caught up with Diamond and Pearl, and watch the episodes as they come out, while watching the old episodes from the beginning (in your case, Johto since you've seen both generation I series). Then, if you want, after you finish Battle Frontier, go on and rewatch Sinnoh from the start for a sense of continuation you didn't get from Sinnoh originally. I'm only in Advanced Challenge, but that's what I'll do when I'm done.

The Pokemon anime is actually a lot more enjoyable when you watch the sagas in order. That way you can see a natural progression of the show and it evolved from saga to saga.

Johto does have some important episodes that should be required viewing, but it also has by far the most filler of any region.

I recommend following the same order as in the anime. After Johto, Misty leaves the show so you'll be kinda confused as to what happens. Also it's a flowing storyline meaning that it's not jumbled from place to place. You have to follow the story through watching it in the right order.

Johto- As most of the arc itself follows the same filler guideline, I suggest only watching the non-filler ones. There are some fillers I recommend watching as they don't follow the same episodic formula and are some of the best Pokemon episodes I have ever watched. These include the fortune-telling episode and Brock's heartbreak.

Hoenn- Not as much filler as in Johto, but the fillers in question are even worse than the Johto ones. Some of the contest episodes (and Contest COTDS) were boring as hell. I suggest the same as in Johto; only watch the non-filler ones while at the same time skipping the contest COTDS. Really, you ain't missing much. We could all care less about their backgrounds and pokemon. Ash's gym battles were kinda meh compared to the other regions.

Kanto Battle Frontier- A somewhat redeeming arc for the series. There is still some wtf fillers inserted but overall the length of the storyline is shorter compared to Hoenn. I personally loved the contests in this arc better than Hoenn or Sinnoh's. 1 episode contests (2 if those contests were important). We're not there for the tedious COTD stuff. Ash's Battle Frontier battles were refreshing considering how he uses his Oaked pokemon. The final episodes of this arc are what defined Advanced Generation as a series. Watch most of this arc and if you have to, watch some of the fillers. More enjoyable than Hoenn and Johto ones.

Sinnoh- A lot of good stuff came out of D&P. For one, we don't have tedious filler episodes as Johto and Hoenn were notoriously known for having. Even if there is filler present, those episodes are somewhat refreshing. The gym battles are better than the Hoenn ones, Ash actually has a Rival (two actually, but he doesn't appear until later). Contests can be kinda boring but at least it cuts to the point. We don't have filler space with COTDs, just the contest itself. However, Dawn's rivals are lacking in many areas. Watch the majority of this series as horrible filler is rarely present.

Personally, none of the fillers, nor the length of Johto bothered me. Why? Because I enjoy filler episodes just as much as I enjoy watching the plot episodes where important stuff happens. I mean, I love Johto Journeys, Johto League Champions, and Master Quest. Those seasons were awesome!! :-D

I guess you could say, that even though some of the episodes become repetitive plot-wise ("introduce Johto Pokemon of the day here"), still, it wasn't boring to me. Although, I guess the reason I don't find any of the episodes boring is because, I'm a huge fan of the 4Kids dub. XD

So yeah, that might explain why I was happy with every single Johto episode. XD It's true, Johto never failed to make me happy! I enjoyed all of Johto! :crush:

Heh, to be honest, there's nothing about Johto that I didn't like (except for how they didn't find out what was in the GS ball - that was quite disappointing - but oh well, I fully accept everything that the writers do). Basically, you can tell that I don't watch the show for its plot, unlike most fans. And that's because I watch Pokemon (the 4Kids dub) for other reasons.

As for Hoenn, it's the exact same case with me. I've enjoyed all the episodes from Hoenn as well, including the filler episodes. XD

However, while I don't watch the 4Kids dub for its plot - I do watch the Pokemon USA dub for its plot. That's because the plot is one of the few things I actually like about Battle Frontier and D/P. So I'm always curious about what's gonna happen next in Sinnoh. ;-)

Yes, I completely agree with you! ^^
