So, this thread is about the Pokémon you keep on using every time you start a play through. And in my case, it's a Zubat.

And I'm completely aware of the fact that Zubat is a quite annoying Pokémon. And I thought of that as well. UNTIL, while I was playing HeartGold, I found a Shiny Zubat. And it was my first ever Shiny Pokémon. I caught it, and trained it. Eventually, it has evolved into a Shiny Crowbat. And ever since that moment, in every play through of Pokémon, I catch a Zubat and train it to become a Crowbat!

Didn't we have a thread like this some time ago? Oh well....

I'd say some of my returning regulars would be Jolteon (Eeveelution of choice) or Lanturn (fish of choice). If I need a Fighting type I'll probably look for a Riolu/Lucario.

no. As much of a fangirl I may be of some species, variety is what's important. Though, I did used to have a tradition of using crobat at least once a generation, which is a similar concept. Crobat was my second favorite pokemon back then. The tradition died in gen v, I actually haven't used a crobat in any playthrough since (soul silver was the last one). Perhaps I'll use one in ultra moon.

Probably somewhere, but can't find it for now and it was definitely from quite some time ago, so it's fine to make a new one :)

As for me, I also care too much about variety to keep using the same Pokémon. The only one that comes close is Sneasel, which I've used in two playthroughs because it's just that awesome.

Closest for me would be Lucario, Audino, and Ampharos. 3 of my fav Pokemon.

I've only reused them a couple times though.

Edit: Actually no wait I used Lucario 4 times and Audino 3 (Diamond, White, White 2, and Y and White, White 2, and Y respectively)

I guess I was more dedicated to them than I thought.

I haven't had a pokemon I've used in every single playthrough but there are a couple of pokemon that have made a lot of appearences in my playthrough teams:

Pidgeot - not the best regional bird pokemon but Pidgeot was the first pokemon I raised to level 100 in pokemon gold which was my first game. I've kind of always been loyal to the Pidgeot line ever since, having it in a playthrough team has kind of become tradition.

Ampharos - it's often been a choice in many of my teams, it's quick to evolve to it's final stage and is always been a reliable choice in battle, I also like it's design.

I've used Flareon, Vileplume, Espeon, Azumarill, Blissey and Ampharos about 2-3 times each. The first time for the former two was in Yellow, and for the latter four was in Gold.

If we're including lines, I also used Togetic in Crystal and briefly in Platinum prior to its evolution. And if we're including the Orre games, Umbreon, Heracross and Breloom are also on the twice list.

Dragonite. This is the one Pokémon that I have used time and time again. I currently have Red, Blue and Yellow on my 3DS, and after i played through Red, I used that game to get Dratini to use during Blue, Yellow and the second play through of Red. I've even used a shiny Dragonite once or twice.

Besides Dragonite, I have used Espeon (my second favourite Pokémon) a few times as well. There's been quite a few other Pokémon I have used multiple times, however, nothing compared to Dragonite.

I've repeated some Pokemon a couple of times, but I don't plan to ever have one Pokemon I'll use on every team. As has been said before, variety is important.

In 3 or 4 play throughs of FireRed, I've used 3 Pidgeot, 3 Eeevee, and at least 2 Raichu. Possibly 2 Arcanine as well. I've also raised and Eevee in SoulSilver and White2. And I used an Alolan Raichu in Moon.

I've used Rockruff/Lycanroc and both Sun and Moon even though I hate them; I just wanted to use both version exclusive forms.

I've used Sceptile, Blaziken, and Manectric in Emerald and in ORAS. I also used Plusle and Minun in together Emerald and separately in 2 play throughs of Pearl.

I used Chimchar and Shinx in Pearl and Platinum.

Lastly I played through Black twice with the same team of Samurott, Liepard, Simisear, Emolga, Cinccino, and Haxorus. I wanted to do it four times (1 for each season), but Black is just so boring and crappy that I could barely even finish the second time.

It generally depends on the gen and/or version, as well as distribution. I prefer to keep at least a somewhat balanced team and try new things, but some do end up on my teams more than once. Gardevoir has ended up on many of my teams, especially during Hoenn and Platinum runs, since it is my favorite Psychic-type. Excadrill and Pidgeot tend to also frequent my arsenals when available. Glalie is also pretty common, almost always ending up in my Hoenn teams. Garchomp and Lucario also tend to be often-used Mons. More recently, Lycanroc (both of them) ends up on virtually all my SM teams due to being one of the cooler and better Rock-types. Plus I love wolves, so that's a big perk to me. Eevee can be a decently common member, depending on my needs and/or gen, but it's less frequent than the aforementioned Mons.

I tend to be very bias to Starters, however, though I do try (keyword: try) to spread things around, but I generally fall back into preferred choices. I almost always pick the Fire starter starting from Johto, since they tend to be the best of the Fire-types, and Fire is my second favorite type. Sinnoh and Alola are the exceptions, where I try to be more diverse, especially since any of the starters there are pretty much equal in terms of usefulness. However, I rarely take the Water starter, with many of them leaving bad tastes in my mouth (Piplup especially, and the anime further soured my opinion of it). The only Water starters I genuinely like are Froakie and Poppilo, since they tend to work with my style and are quite useful in both moves and types. But when it comes to starters, Fire is my go-to choice most often, though Grass is decently common, depending on the game (especially in the form of Torterra, who is my favorite Grass Mon).

Overall, I don't use repeats all the time, but in some cases certain ones tend to work better with me than others. I prefer to use Mons that were introduced during that gen, but sometimes endgame teams can harbor some common faces. Especially true if the number of new Mons is low, since it means my options are slim to start with. But that about sums it up for me.

Oh yeah, I've definitely used the Kanto and Johto starters at least two times each (maybe only once for the Fire starters). That isn't really a matter of bias so much as convenience when replaying Kanto/Johto games (via remakes and hacks), though. I do consider Meganium as one of my favorites.

I've used Arcanine, Raichu, and Kadabra a lot. I think Black/White changed it up and I finally started going with the mindset that I should look for new Pokemon. (Of course, Black/White forced that, which made it very refreshing for me). And I started finding new Pokemon, and now I want to use Pokemon I haven't used before in my game playthroughs.

I try to change my team during every run, but there are just some pokemon that I feel like using no matter what:

Typhlosion - always my starter in every single Johto game. I know Ferligatr is good, but I just can't pick anyone else except Cyndaquil.

Staraptor - used during Sinnoh games and a major member of my competitive team since Gen6.

Lopunny - used during Sinnoh games and Black2, also a major member of my competitive team.

Gallade - used during Sinnoh games, Black2, and Omega Ruby.

Usually I try to use different Pokemon every time I start a new game. There may be the odd Pokemon I use often, but that depends on what game I'm playing and the choices that are available to me. I know for me personally I've used Drowzee/Hypno in a number of Kanto and Johto playthroughs.

Otherwise... does keeping my starter in nearly every team I make count? I would like to ditch the starter for some more variety, but every time I say I will, I change my mind.

I mean, not every single time, but I have played through every region with one specific shiny Venusaur I got in LeafGreen.

I tend to use different things each time, but I do remember that I used Krookodile in BW, B2W2 and XY. It wasn't available in ORAS so didn't use it and by the time SM rolled around the pattern had been broken with ORAS so didn't bother.

As a kid I used to use the Nidos, Venomoth and Victreebel a lot in my replays of the Kanto games, too.

I, like many people above, ty to always use different Pokémon on my teams. However, when doing nuzlockes I always end up with some similar Pokémon. I even name them the same to reflect that. Like, I've had 3 or 4 Machop, all named Pericles. And Wurmple is always named something with "Mil" at the beginning, like Milton or Millie. Other than that, no, I don't try to use the same Pokémon.

i don't necessarily try to use the same Pokemon, though i do end up using some of the same Pokemon just because they happen to have good stats and good availability (eg., Staraptor in Sinnoh, i use it just about every time simply because it's good and it's there).

I generally try to use different 'mons each playthrough, but I always seem to end up with Magneton/Magnezone on my team, especially in recent gens. Magnezone ended up being my ace on my 2 most recent Sun/Moon runs through the E4.

I like to keep some variation in my games, so I try not to use the same Pokemon twice (unless I'm doing a nuzlocke or something.) But if I encounter a Pokemon I've used before, I'll maybe use it again if it's been a couple games since I've used it, depending if I really like it, or if I want that Pokemon type, and the other options the game has I don't like.
