Firstly, I would travel around in Sinnoh, then Kanto, And my starter would be Piplup because it is so cute and it evolves into the Mighty Empoleon.
And as for my ultimate battling party:

The East Coast of North America's Pokemon world counterpart. Just because.

I don't know what's there, given how the main areas of Pokemon seem to be based off Japan, but it's undoubtedly very different from what's in the game regions, both Pokemon-wise and culturally. I'll use whatever I've got available to me. Plus it'd be cool to be in a fairly modern/suburban setting, assuming we're in New York's counterpart. Just to break the formula and whatnot.

i'd take Blastoise,Tyranitar,Dragonite,Gengar,Charizard,Metagross and Umbreon with me(yes i know i have 7 but i'd smash the computers to allow it) and Mew would follow me as i had saved it from Mewtwo and Giovanni!
