What shippings were you converted to, if any?

Some ships we just see for ourselves, but others are different- they just need a push from an external source in order to persuade us to ship that shipping. Some shippers don't have many converted shippings, but a lot of people tend to have at least one or two, or so I've noticed- I, myself included.

I have a few questions about the ships you converted to:

- What converted you to the shipping? Friend, fanfiction, AMV, etc?
- Do you ship this ship more, less or as equally as the shippings you converted to?
- What about the shipping or the way it was presented to you made it appealing to you?

I can think of three ships off the top of my head that I've been converted to.

Penguin to Appeal

When I first started watching Pokémon, I caught it at the end of Diamond and Pearl. Zoey's character wasn't hugely featured in this area, so I didn't see much of her and Dawn interacting together. I did however start watching in time to see the PenguinShipping conclusion episode, DP180, which left me a huge supporter of that ship. Eventually though, I went back and re-watched the DP series from the beginning and was able to see Zoey's character get her full development and interaction with Dawn, leading me to favor Appeal over Penguin.

Though it does have some unique characteristics that I am quite fond of, Appeal only supersedes Penguin by a margin. I think Dawn and Zoey complement each other nicely (more so than Dawn and Kenny), yet I prefer to ship relationships that are at least semi-tangible. Because PenguinShipping is one-sided from Kenny, it will always rank highly amongst my pairings for Dawn or Kenny. Appeal, though it does have some vague hints, is much more built upon conjecture and speculation. Despite Appeal's lack of more solid evidence, and perhaps because Penguin was pushed so prominently, I have a definite, however slight, favoritism towards the more unique Appeal.

Wishful to Sommelier

My conversion in this case was similar to my conversion in the previous case. During my original watch-through of Best Wishes, I paired Iris with Cilan. Being both main characters and having starkly conflicting personalities, I concluded that they would make a very cute couple. I never gave much credence to Burgundy at the time since she made so few and spread-out appearances and seemed to fail whenever she appeared. During my second watch-through of BW, being able to watch the episodes in marathons and having a knowledge of what was to happen, I was able to give much more attention to what was going on in the background away from the trio of main characters. Cilan and Burgundy's interactions at the Pokémon World Tournament Junior Cup, accompanied with their interactions throughout the series as a whole, solidified my support of this ship over Wishful.

Looking back, I conclude that I was never a huge supporter of WishfulShipping to begin with. I wanted to pair Iris and Cilan with someone; at the time I saw no one to ship Cilan with, and wasn't going to pair Ash and Iris, so I did the logical thing and paired Iris and Cilan with each other. I now see that the two never really had much chemistry in terms of romantic potential, though I still think they would be cute together. Sommelier, however, goes to a much deeper and more emotional level. Overall, I concluded that Burgundy, with her rivalry and seeming animosity towards Cilan, and Cilan, with his collected and caring personality, would make a much more sensible ship.

Ability to Amour

When I did my watch-through of Advanced, though I kind of shipped May and Ash, after seeing Anabel in Battle Frontier, I quickly made AbilityShipping my primary Ash-ship. I note though that I watched through Advanced before I started watching XY. Once I did start watching XY, by episode seven, I concluded that AmourShipping would become my new primary Ash-ship. Both Ability and Amour were semi-tangible ships, which set them as equals, yet the detail that gave Serena precedence was the simple fact that she was a present main character, and Anabel was a character who appeared in two episodes nearly a decade ago. For the sake of supporting a ship that I could actively watch develop, I switched my primary support to Amour. Not to say that that is the only reason; I do genuinely like the interactions between Ash and Serena, but the activity level of one over the other is definitely the main factor.

Despite throwing my support behind Amour, deep down my OTP for Ash is still Anabel. Nevertheless, I like to ship things that I can see, and Serena has a distinct advantage over Anabel in that category. For that reason Amour takes precedence over Ability from a primarily logistical standpoint.

The first one I thought of was Jasmine and Flint (the elite four, not Brocks dad) and after a couple of fan fics and seeing the synopsis of the game (only watched the anime for the longest time) I was quickly an Alexandrianshipper.

The other one was pokeshipping which now I totally dislike. Now I avidly ship Amour and Pearl with Ash because of the way they were presented in the show. Fanfictions are just an added bonus that people like them too. As for Misty I ship Ego because of mainly fan fiction which is great. I don't think I've read a bad egoshipping fic honestly.

Poke to Amour
I was a gen 1 fan, and as such Misty held a large place in my Pokemon loving heart. I also looked at the interactions between the two and loved every second of it, sometimes I go back to see if it was just nostalgia blinding me, but nope it's there to me. Though I stopped watching the anime for a bit, (over half of the Johto league stuff) and I returned in the Advance Generation, I wasn't much of an AdvanceShipper though, preferring ContestShipping, and this trend basically continued until Kalos Region. Ever since it first started, I really loved the idea of AmourShipping, maybe it's how Selena shows that she has a pre-established relationship with Ash, maybe it's the fact that I love the childhood friend ships, maybe it's because of all the anime girls coming and going, or maybe I'm a lion the more I watched the anime, the more I loved the idea of these two being together. Sure I still love PokeShipping but now I also love this new ship.

I seem to be slowly converting to AmourShipping. I've been an AdvanceShipper since 2004 or so, but from everything I've seen online, I'm leaning toward AmourShipping now. I haven't seen the anime since early in the Unova region, but they just seem to work better together. Also, Ash apparently asked her to join them, which he hasn't done (with a female companion) before.

Oh, this is an easy one: Poke/Advance to Amour. I used to flip-flop between the first two depending on what mood I was in that week, but then Serena came along and became quite possibly the most blatantly infatuated character in the anime's run - and when you beat out Misty for that title, that's saying something.

This is pretty easy for me. I was originally an avid AdvanceShipper, but now I'm an AmourShipper. I was strongly for AdvanceShipping due to the mentor/student relationship that Ash and May had. Plus after having to deal with Misty for so long May felt like a breath of fresh air. While I still support that pairing, AmourShipping has taken center stage for me, pushing AdvanceShipping down in the ranks. Not only is AmourShipping more unique due to Serena having a canon crush on Ash, but seeing how the two of them interact gives me a warm, gooey feeling. I admit, I'm a hopeless romantic who enjoys near perfect chemistry between characters, so the fact that Ash and Serena has not once challenged, argued, or even simply raised their voices in anger to each other is something I like. May, Dawn, and especially Iris and Misty all bickered badly at one point or another, but seeing the almost natural chemistry Ash and Serena have converted me to AmourShipping pretty quickly. Plus I love seeing all of Serena's flustered reactions over simple things about Ash, especially Miette's teasing, but she never denies it, either, so that's a change of pace. Serena also takes every piece of advice Ash gives her and uses it to the fullest and with utmost seriousness, which is something that the other girls didn't really do too frequently. Even something as simple as never giving up has become almost a staple piece of advice to Serena, helping her push through some tough times. So, yeah, I've become an avid AmourShipper as an end result. I still like AdvanceShipping, but due to the more unique nature of AmourShipping has put Amour on a much higher pillar than Advance.

I used to ship Ash and Misty for a good while, until XY came around and I saw Serena I instantly like the Ash x Serena pairing. Something about it is so cute, so it's my new favorite ship.

Ummm I think I used to ship someone with Gary (don't judge me it was awhile ago....), but now ASH AND SERENA FOR THE WIN.

I never really considered the possibility of being converted to a shipping via a rewatch of the anime when creating this thread, but it's something that is certainly undeniable. Sometimes, when you face an episode for the second or the third time, you're met with new perspectives. Or when you watch something you initially watched a decade ago or just a few years ago, it feels different because you have different perspectives on life- and romance.

For me, Sommeliershipping, my OTP, would have happened in that way. I don't think I shipped Sommeliershipping until the third re-watch of the episode. Perhaps it's because I didn't care about Cabernet until that time around, so I didn't exactly look to her character or her interactions with other characters. Despite their relationship not necessarily seeming to be some sort of recipe for success (well, particularly not in that episode), I couldn't tear my eyes away from their interactions, and couldn't help but really notice Cabernet's blush toward the end of the episode.

I wouldn't give them the credit for completely converting me (P: ) since I already liked the shipping somewhat, but my friends on tumblr that adore Comashipping really helped me to see the appeal of the shipping a lot more, draw more fanart, and generally consider the shipping a little more. People who really love their shipping sometimes can really sell them to you, I suppose.

Amour shipping due to the anime. And Rocket shipping from a friend.

Fanfics got me into BrockxLucy's shipping
