What should be the very last battle of the entire series?

Let's say the series has its last episode and the writers put a last battle just for fun, what should it be?

I figure the last episodes will probably be a party at Pallet Town of some sort, Ash will have come home from a major championship and all his friends will be there.

I figure if the writers are going to close the show, the last battle would probably be another practice match between Ash and Gary. Not only because it would bring closure to the entire series, but Gary beat Ash again with Electrivire after BF, so it would be nice to see Ash get another victory over him at the end.

What do you think?

Depending on who it is, Ash vs. his father - but only if the guy is actually a good trainer.

If Sinnoh is the end of Ash's story, vs. Cynthia or vs. Cyrus.

Last two battles:

Ash VS Cynthia - Ash wins and come to Pallet

and in Pallet Ash VS Gary - Ash demolishes Gary finally

It would probably be Ash against a champion, a rival, or a friend he's never battled before (Professor Oak, anyone? :3)

It would be funny if it was Professor Oak. We did see him with a Dragonite once.

I'd like to see Ash challange the most powerful trainer in the pokemon world. We wil need final battles between Ash and Paul maybe, Gary and I'd like it to be Oak too, be an intresting twist.

Well, I hope that the final battle (whenever it will occur) won't be Ash vs. Paul, because Paul isn't really that important to Ash. Ash vs. Gary could be good, but Ash has already beaten Gary once.

But it would really make an awesome episode if Professor Oak would challenge Ash into a match, and he would show surprising talent as a Pokémon Trainer.

Ash vs. Cynthia or Ash vs. Any Champion would also work fine for me, but I doubt that characters like Lance or Wallace are that important either.

So, it will probably be Ash vs. Gary.

So much focus on the series's ending lately. And all assuming that the anime's not going to end on a completely unsatisfactory note due to unimaginably low viewership.

..now don't start anything, I just had to point that out.

Now assuming they do end it with some actual closure put in mind, I'd have to go with my fan scenario of Ash battling Ho-Oh as the last battle in the entire series. As for trainer vs. trainer, probably just Ash in the finals of the Championship League or some other super-duper uber battlers league vs.... someone.

Not Ash vs. Gary, though. I'd hate that with the force of my entire being. After never having played a truly large role for the length of the entire series, that boy has no place coming in and hogging the glory of the grand finale.

Think of it this way, Orange Islands, Johto and AG all ended with an Ash Vs. Gary battle.

Sure, Ash battled Harrisson after Gary, but it was still him too. Plus don't you think Ash deserves another victory over Gary after Electrivire beat Pikachu?

I'm all for the two having a rematch at some point, but not as the final battle in the series. It'd be pretty anti-climatic after Ash winning whatever it is he would allegedly win to then have a little backyard skirmish with a childhood rival who hasn't actually been his rival in a loooong time, at least imo. Maybe right before the tourney as a booster in Ash's confidence, though. :p

I would love to see one final Ash vs. Gary (Gary: Just for old time's sake...), and I would also love for them to actually reveal who Ash's father is. Not that it actually matters, but simply because there has been so much speculation about it ever since the very first episodes of the show. It's one of the greatest mysteries of pokemon.

And if it turns out to be Giovanni...then it's time for a showdown.

Oak and Giovanni are my choices. Although I don't know how likely it is to see Ash "disband" TR trio to Giovanni.

I always fancied Ash vs his son in Silver Cave (you know, in a reenactment of the ending of Gold/Silver/Crystal), the outcome left to interpretation.

"Ash already beat Gary once", yeah, but still, what's their record in all the matches they've had? It's almost like they're saying that match was a rarity on Ash's end, or that Gary doesn't slack after his losses.

Somehow, even with that victory for Ash, I still feel like Gary's been the superior trainer, and that the match between the two was merely closure to their rivalry. The rival changes every season after all.

And yet, even if Gary didn't have the "coverage" that we get on Paul, he's actually got more dimensions to him as of now. Paul, from what we've seen thus far, is one note. Gary's gone through extreme character development, I think more-so than any other character that we've seen. In the process of that, we've gotten a lot of story to the rivalry between the two.

The two trainers from Pallet who, as of the continuity established later in the series, were childhood "friends" and rivals, starting on their journey the same day. Gary has been Ash's long time test to determine his place. Same background, same start, same hometown, and a rivalry that's lasted along the course of two full length regions.

A final "practice" match with Gary would be Ash's way of coming around full circle. From his start at Pallet, to his championship status, and back to the place where it all began, against the long time rivalry.

To me, Gary would be the correct choice because he's got the longest lasting backstory with Ash. It reminds me of Spiderman 3, in which Venom and Sandman were both introduced, and yet the dynamics between Pete and Harry was the most interesting relationship and focus of that movie because we had the history with them.

Well, let's say Ash has just been defeated by Lucian, he comes home to Pallet, and meets up with his mother and possibly some other friends. I'd like to see a final battle between Ash and May where they call a draw and are attacked by Team Rocket (The actually threatening, high ranking Team Rocket members) and one final Ash-May tag battle to save Delia who was taken hostage. (Then at the end they realize they are soulmates and live happily ever after ^^)
