Since there's a 87.9% chance of this happening at some point in D/P, what do you think will happen?

Will Gary side with Ash and also find Paul to be too harsh (since Gary does indeed care for his Pokemon), or will Gary join Paul and both mock Ash to the point where he becomes suicidal?

Since Gary is a lot more friendly now and respective toward Ash, I can see him disliking Paul. I wonder what will happen though.

Why not just round it to 88%?

Anyway, I wanna see Gary and Paul mudwrestle...

...and a battle, of course. I think a tie would be pretty awesome, Blastoise vs. Torterra. Starter vs starter! Turtle vs turtle! Kanto vs. Sinnoh. Blue vs Green.

Don't forget Elekid Vs. Electivire, there's got to be a reason why the writers gave them both Pokemon from the same line.

Paul's what they wanted Gary to be but weren't too sure of the result? That might be the reason for Elekid. A fresh "Gary" from scratch.

Depending on what Pokemon Gary has, it'd be a good battle. I think that Gary would be like an example for Paul. Maybe Gary was just like Paul when he just started out, but realized the error of his ways after losing the Kanto Pokemon League or someting. But Paul would have respect for Gary, like he had for Roark.

I'm not sure at all what would happen, but I can picture Paul and Ash getting into an especially bitter argument, Gary trying to calm them down (don't know where Brock and Dawn would be in all this...), and Paul saying something about or doing something to Ash or Gary or their pokemon. Then Gary would snap and a battle would ensue. Although something more creative than that scenario would be great ^^

The fangirl in me would like to see some more Palletshipping hints too...

Something tells me if they were to meet, Gary would not be concerned about him. I don't know what Paul would think of him, although I think he would recognize his last name, Oak.

Hm...if they met...*laughs* i made up this whole thing in the Palletshipping thread, and for the life of me, I can't remember the whole thing.

I think it went like this: Ash and co. would bump into Gary, then those four would bump into Paul, Paul would be a jerk to Ash, Gary would get all defensive and challenge Paul to a batte and win. It'd be awesome if it was a really close batte.

Anyway, I think that somehow, Gary would teach Paul a lesson about how he shouldn't be such a jerk, but Paul would most likely not really realize the message until later.

What will most likely happen in my opinion is that Paul would actually show respect for Gary due to him being the grandson of the great Prof. Oak.

Later on, is him pretty much snickering a bit over Ash's abuse from Paul, and get challenged by him to just test the Professor's grandson. He might make like a random moral rant to him at the end of said battle noticing how bad of an attitude and act he has towards his Pokemon through the battle. ANDMAYBERANDOMFLASHBACKPASTFORTHEADDING.

So I don't see Gary having much interest in Paul other than that new kid my childhood friend is competing with until Paul actually triggers something.

Wouldn't it be interesting if Gary and Paul had already met, but never mentioned Ash? And they might have been total buddies. I'd just find this funny if it happened.

.....I just want to see someone do something to Paul. With a sharp, large object. Bwaah, I don't like hims at all. D:

But, on a serious note?

I could see Paul respecting Gary, at first, and being all like, "lol, ur oak's grandson". But then, he figures out he's friends with Ash, and then gets all like, "lol, loser".

And then the two battle. Gary wins, and's all like, "lol noob, u mistreatz ur pokemans."

And there needs to be epic palletshippiness. (Although I won't kill it if there isn't any.)

I sort of wonder what Paul would think of Gary's Pokemon. Paul has put off Ash's Pokemon as "weak" or "pathetic" but would he say the same about Gary's?

Can you imagine Paul calling Gary's Blastoise "pathetic" or something?

Gary is not like Ash, I wonder how Gary would take another guy putting him down like that. Could be fun, I think.

I was thinking about that too. They could meet up first and be cool with eachother or whatnot cause paul's what Gary kinda used to be, then they run into ash and paul's like you know this piece of shit, and then gary kinda defends ash, teachs paul a lesson on respect and whatnot and he kinda takes it to heart since it's gary.

one thing I've noticed, though.

everyone and anyone who thinks about this seems completely convinced Gary'll win. (Which, I'm one of those people, but still.)

What if Gary were to lose to Paul? Or, better yet, what if they don't even encounter each other (or battle)? With all of the twists in D/P, it could happen, even though it's like, not something I want to happen at all whatsoever. Bah. It still could, though.

I think a lot of people wanna see Gary make a comeback, though. It's odd, I think, that Gary's considered a main character in the eyes of 90% of the pokemon fandom, and that he can maintain this considering he like.....hardly ever appears. I want more appearances from Gary. Bah.

oi, pixie stix...who doesn't want him to pop up more, especially after he pratically got the shaft in AG? he's obviously in Sinnoh, so why can't he appear more often?

...hell, Gary would win. I want his ultimate comeback, dammit. >_<

Gary has practically gotten the shaft in every season he was in.

In Kanto, he doesn't even get to battle Ash in the Indigo league.

In Orange, he's not even in it till the last 2 eps.

In Johto, he only gets 3 measly episodes prior to the league.

In AG, he gets 1 special and two episodes during the tail-end.

In D/P, he's gotten 1 ep so far out of the 55 they've made.

Yeah, Gary has always been getting the short end of the stick.

this is true.

Which has made me wonder why Ash's -primary- rival gets so little attention. (and that one episode really was too rushed, too. Blah.) He might not quite have the same goals as Ash, and their rivalry might have changed a bit, but shouldn't this be an interesting dynamic?

I mean, a character like Paul is a change and all, but gaaaaagh, Paul is so annoying. Blah. They need less Paul and more Gary. Already, Paul's appeared in like.....10+ episodes.

It's like, the only reason they put Gary in is so that he can still be maintained as an actual character.

D:

Which is probably my biggest problem with the anime. I want more palletshippiness. Gary's like...complete absence from this makes for no palletshippiness. </3

Do you even have to ask?

Gary will come around, make snide comments on Ash to reinforce who Ash belongs to, Paul will come around, get jealous because he thought Ash was untapped, made snide comments at Gary even more harsh than he does Ash, they battle, Gary trounces him horribly, Paul's moody, Ash is the victor's spoils, and to top it off, Gary gets relation bragging rights (to Oak, you pervs) and Paul will have no choice but to admit defeat while secretly thinking of ways to assassinate Gary in his sleep. ...So he'll just have to wait for Gary to leave before pursuing his conquests yet again.

Duh. *snicker*
