What was with Flint vs. Cynthia in DP191?

Why was Ash overlaid Flint when he did his weird gestures (heck, why do they do that period)? I get that it was to pump up Ash for Unova but was it really needed?

Thoughts? Anyone?

Because BW happened right afterwards.

Satoshi was watching the two go at it and became inspired. It was as if he were the one fighting Shirona, matching wits with Ooba. Ooba's defeat was a sign that while Satoshi might think on the level of one of the Four Heavenly Kings he is not ready to do battle with the Champion.

Episode Director Asada Yuuji and key animator Iwane Masa'aki had a lot of fun with that battle. It is one of their best, for sure.

This is the kind of thing that makes me so underwhelmed by the games' (and Origin) treatment to the pokemon league VS how the anime likes to emphasize becoming a champion is a real big deal. I understand the game has to be beaten, but still, there is more to it, just not relevant to the discussion.

I hope they rescue some of this in XY.
