I think Orange Islands. Not really a particular reason, but the whole idea that Ash was going somewhere new was pretty exciting to me when I first watched it.

Also the classic first episode of course, Ash was so brave!

My favorite beginning episodes are:

"Pokemon I Choose You" - because Ash was so brave (same reason as Mooites). I loved how he did everything in his power to save Pikachu. And it was so awesome when Ash stood in front of the Spearow and he gave that epic speech!! =D

"The Lost Lapras" - This is one of my favorite episodes because Ash helped save Lapras from those bullies, then they meet Tracey, and Ash decides to challenge The Orange League. And, I love the part near the end where Ash jumps on Team Rocket's truck, to try and save Lapras. =)

"Don't Touch That 'Dile" - This is another of my favorite episodes. I loved the Ash and Misty fight at the beginning. Team Rocket was just hilarious in this episode. And I love how Ash reminisces about the day he got his first Pokemon. And he talks about oversleeping and stuff. Haha, that was great!! =D

Kanto, it was the first episode. And it was pretty good I think. Atleast it was memorable. The only other ones that aren't the beginning of a whole new saga were the rotom one, I have a bad memory.

I love the first episode of the first season for the same reasons as Trainer Lisa. And I love the pitch of Ash's voice in that episode.

Oh, it's definitely Black & White in my opinion.

I was really hyping up for Best Wishes! to finally start, and the first two episodes that aired were everything but a disappointment. They were just so awesome. *Drool*

Everything felt so new and fresh, which could be partly because of the great new animation, but I also loved Ash's new design, Team Rocket's new personalities, the batte between Snivy and Pikachu and the whole Zekrom incident (shame it hasn't been brought up again). And Iris, of course, although I really didn't care for her at first. I don't know why Best Wishes! in particular felt so awesome, but I guess it could be because of the fact that I had completely lost hope in the animé a while after the AG Saga ended. BW pretty much revived my love for the animé. I swear, at that point in life Thursday was like the best day in the whole week.

Don't touch that Dile!

Was happy (at the time) that Brock was back, it felt fresh and new, and there was no sadness at having lost anyone. The opening theme is my favourite, it's so uplifting and happy. The episode was funny what with Totodile clamping onto Jessie's hair, and overall the episode really set up and got me psyched for the Johto region.

''Don't Touch That Dile!'' was an opening episode for a new season?! OKAY, then it's definitely a tie between this one and the ''In The Shadow of Zekrom!''. Totodile could possibly be the best thing that ever happened to the Johto Saga, and he's probably sharing 1st place with Gible of being my favorite Pokémon in Ash's teams. :>

Oh, definitely "Don't Touch That 'Dile!" Totodile is one of my favorite starters and I think every single episode it's been featured in (especially in Johto) was hilarious. I liked the TRio's antics in this one too, namely Jessie's hair getting caught, and her Nurse Joy impression/Elm's obliviousness. I also liked the very beginning; the Mt. Moon music in the background, Ash and Misty arguing, them being lost in the woods, and having Brock back was a constant reminder of their Kanto travels, yet the whole Totodile situation introduced Johto in a very fun and humorous way.

As much as I like the very first episode, I found a couple of things wrong with it, like how Gary and Ash should've already known each other (Little kid Ash/Gary Camerupt episode flashback, anyone?), or why Delia let Ash sleep the entire day and let him be late when clearly the night before she was insistent for him to wake up early...nonetheless, the nostalgia value and Pika/Ash relationship (like martianmister said) makes me tolerate it.
