Of course, every Pokemon fan had to start out somewhere, so I ask you this: What was your first generation? I, II, III, IV, or V?

Mine was Gen III - my first game was LeafGreen back in 2005. So it was kind of fitting that my first Pokemon game was the remake of the very first Pokemon game.

Mine was Gen II - my first game was Gold. However, I was already a fan of the anime when it first started airing in Australia.

my 1st game was Stadium back in the day (so technically Gen 1) but my 1st main handheld game was Gold for GBC, so i could go with either Gen 1 or 2 really :p

Even though I played on my brother's Red (and deleted his file repeatedly) and never got anywhere, I think I only really played Pokemon properly and soley with Gen III, so Gen III.

Gen 4. My first main series game was Platinum. I have Played through FRLG though.

1st Gen! Stadium was fun because you could rent almost all the Pokemon, but I wanted to train my own, so I got Yellow and later Red.

It was either the 2nd or 3rd gen... I think it was 2nd, but I played 3rd gen more so I always think it was the 3rd gen.

Red, which I attempted to share with my 3-year-old brother (his 19th birthday is this week). Let's just say my game got saved over, a lot, until our parents bought him Yellow.

Still have it, Yellow, and the Original Game Boys [not Colors] the two of us played it on. Surprisingly, all the game packs & the Game Boys still work.

Generation IV -- my first game was Platinum. ._. It turned out to be pirated and is currently broken, which sucks. I would have had a game from previous generations, but I didn't think to ask.

Difficult to say - the first game I technically played was Blue, but I didn't get 'into' the series until Emerald, so I class myself as a Gen III person despite having played the (then quite obsolete) Gen I and II games.
EDIT: Again, despite not being into the series until Gen III, I had Blue, Yellow, Gold and Silver in my collection somewhere. IDK where I got them from.

My first game was the US release of Red, I got it as a gift the winter after it was released, and started playing shortly (a few hours) after it was given to me it.

My very first game would have been Emerald, so Generation III. Good times...good times.

I wasn't even aware that Pokemon games existed until I saw a commercial for DP in 2007 (not owning any gaming devices until then kind of screwed me over in that regard). I had already watched the anime and dropped it during Johto (picked it back up later). I immediately got to playing Leaf Green, followed by Sapphire.
So I'm a Gen III-er.

I started with IV. Pearl, to be specific. I really wanted to start on Gen 1, with Red/Blue, but when i got my Pearl I was told that R/B was backorde WAAAAAAY too far for it to arrive at Christmas. I hope to own Diamond and Platinum someday, so as I don't have to erase my save file every time I want to try out a new Starter. Oh Ellie... how I miss you...
