Just wondering b/c I was reading about the Kantō-kai, and it made me think of Team Rocket. B/c they only last for about a year, and it was an organized crime. Like, where they inspired from real crime organizations?

well, TR obviously was inspired by the Yakuza, and Aqua/Magma sound like environmentalist radicals, and Galactic is a cult.

When I first saw this thread I thought it concerned the creation of the Teams. Like how Gio's mother created the Rockets, how Maxie and Archie and Cyrus found the needed money and the like.

Team Rocket is based on the Yakuza.
Team Aqua and Team Magma are environmentalist cults.
Team Galactic (Cyrus) is based on the Mayans and their aspirations to godhood.

They are all based on small groups of the USA(rmy).

Why would they be based on the US army? When Pokemon was initially created they had no plans to export to America and even then we were good friends.

Team Rocket is Yakuza, sort of, there's a few elements of SPECTRE as well (particularly the superscience bit in Johto).

Team Aqua and Magma are environmental cults.

Galactic didn't strike me so much as a cult as they did more of a "Cosmoc Rule" sort of organization.

Giovanni has elements of Yakuza bosses, Al Capone, and Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Magma an Aqua I always saw as environmental terrorists more than a cult. Although I'll give you Magma's uniform...

If anything, Galactic is a cult.
