I know this topic has been mentioned and thought about but lets get down to it.
what will ash do with his team in the pokemon league

bring back old ones and if so which ones and how much credit (wins) should they get

or

do the same thing that he did in hoenn

what do you think is going to happen and why?
what do you want to see?

I think he should use his Sinnoh Team. We've spent the entire saga getting to know them. Doesn't make sense to shove em to the side to make room for older characters we haven't seen in four years.

What will he do with them? He'll abandon them all of course.

No, he'll train with them for probably a few episodes.

They're probably doing it to make up for the lack of a BF this gen.

In Hoenn he only used his main team because the writers knew he would bring his reserves back for the Battle Frontier saga. So the Hoenn team got the league to themselves and his older Pokemon got the BF matches.

This time DP is ending with no second arc, so might as well show Ash's older Pokemon here because God knows we won't see them for the next 200 episodes.

How does it not make sense...? The newest opening shows a select few of his reserves with him; if it were all of them we really wouldn't have any reason to believe he's using them in the league. But it's only a couple of them.

Same as Hoenn. He went into Sinnoh with the same plan of starting fresh as he did in Hoenn. We haven't seen any of his previous pokemon so far, so it really doesn't make to much sense for them to just throw them in now.

which pokemon were showcased in the new opening?

I really think he will just use sinnoh poke for the reasons already mentioned
If he uses older ones i think it should be in the preliminary rounds only and then maybe subed in for pikachu in the main battles so that the sinnoh pokes get there time to shine

just because we see them has nothing to do with it making sense. I don't see any reason to bring back his old team when we have a perfectly good one right now.

This. My guess is, we'll only see the pokémon in the openning in the League. The only pokémon not seen in the openning that I think might show up is Gliscor.

As far as the pokémon in the openning and their credit, the pecking order is clear, Sinnoh pokémon, Johto starters, Noctowl, everyone else. My guess is the pokémon that got focus in the BF will either be absent or do very little in the League itself.

Bayleef: 1-2 win
Cyndaquil: 2-3 wins
Totodile: 2-3 wins
Noctowl: 1-2 win
Muk: 1-2 wins
Glalie: 1 win
Donphan: 1 win
Torkoal: 1
Snolax: 0-1 win in prelininaries
Corphish: 0 wins in premliminaries

just because we see them has nothing to do with it making sense. I don't see any reason to bring back his old team when we have a perfectly good one right now.

I can give you one very good reason: diversity. Let me say it agin, diversity. One of the things that was a bit meh about the Hoenn League was the fact that for the preminilaries and 3 full 6-on-6 battles, we saw the same pokémon over and over and say over.

Now, the Sinnoh League seems to be hinting at 4 major rivals + preliminaries and let's not forget that Ash could face off again another League rival like Tyson or Harrison. So that's a whole lot of battles to show the same 6 pokémon.

That being said, I think that in all of the matches, we'll see no more than half of his team being comprised of reserves and even then, I don't think it'll go above 1/3 that much.

I can give you another reason: the rivals. These are 4 completely different rivals, each with their own different battling styles. One of the things Ash & co learned from the Lucian episode is to adapt your style to your pokemon. With Conway, he's probably gonna have to deal with a lot of status moves, with Nando, he's gonna have to deal with contest-like moves and combinations, with Barry it's more speed and energy, with Paul it's raw power.

That being said, as I've said before, I think that in the Paul match, he'll only use his Sinnoh team so Pikachu, Buizel, Torterra, Staraptor, Infernape and Gible.

You and your threads, MBA....

Same ol' song and dance for me.

- Sinnoh Pokemon used for Paul fight.
- Anything else goes for other fights.
- Opening cannot be indicator of those specific Pokemon returning.

Valid point, but let's also point out one of the Cons of diversity: spreading the wealth too thin.

Who got the glory in the Johto League? Charizard and Snorlax. And surprise, they were used more than once. All the others were regulated to 'helper'-mon. Even Squirtle and Bulbasaur, who hogged a little of the spotlight, were only used once.

Now, I like diversity and variety. But balance is also key in my opinion.

That being said, I think that in all of the matches, we'll see no more than half of his team being comprised of reserves and even then, I don't think it'll go above 1/3 that much.
You stealin' ideas from me? =P

But yes, I was hoping via some method that if reserves DO show up they take up half the team compared to the Sinnoh Pokemon in those full battles. In 3 vs. 3, two Sinnoh Pokemon and one reserve would help give the teams a classic touch without cluttering up the roster too much.

He went into Sinnoh with the same plan of starting fresh as he did in Hoenn.

He never said such a thing
Also, he did take Aipom with him even if that wasn't his intention and he used it in 2 Gym Battles

We haven't seen any of his previous pokemon so far, so it really doesn't make to much sense for them to just throw them in now.

HGSS advertising
Showcasing Ash's old Poké before we won't see them at all for another 4 years

So... why the Route 217 do we need ANOTHER thread about EXACTLY THE SAME THING?
We have a climax thread, an E4 thread and a GF thread, and now this thread too - and they're all basically about the same thing -_-

Well I hope he uses his Sinnoh team against Paul, with the exception of Buizel and Gible (just for that match). Also I would like to see the Johto starters, and hopefully an evolution out of Cyndaquil, or even his Bayleef into Meganium, that would be awesome.

I think out of all Satoshi's pokes, I want to see Hinoarashi the most. It was my favourite of his Johto starters and I'm sure the writers would love to show us some interactions between the two Hinoarashis.

It would also be awesome if it did evolve during the league like Satoshi wanted it to do in Johto.

He will return the ones seen in Greatest Everyday for some battles. They will get redemption. Hopefully some evolutions, but I only expect for one or two.

Hopefully we won't see Waninoko become an Ordile. Shinji needs to debut his hypothetical HGSS advertising Ordile.

He will use his Sinnoh team of course. But I hope that he use some of his old Pokémon like the new Opening show. Totodile for exemple <33 This pokemon needs an appearance in the show and an evolution xDU.And Charizard again please!
Maybe Gible or Buizel could evolve. Specially Buizel, Gible is OK in that form but Buizel needs an evolution.
We could see Gliscor again <3. The bat was sad when he left Ash and his battle against Paul's Torterra was HORRIBLE. He could make his revenge of him fighting again and winning <3

No dude buizel and gible will both be used trust me they will...the only thing that I might see happening is if Ash doesn't feel Gible is "ready" for a match with Paul and its substituted with Gliscor other than than no they will both be used trust me.

No ash is going to confuse all of the new people and give a laugh to all of the older fans and use
primeape
butterfree
Lapras
pidgeot
haunter
jigglypuff :) (I know he never caught jiggly but it always followed them so it will show up and ash will catch it)

this is just to mess with all the little kids and make them wonder where the crap ash got these guys

I stopped watching after it went cable/satalite only and who is Paul if he's supposed to be the champion powerful dude I say he goes old school with
bulbasaur (he saves everyones sorry behinds when they r in danger)
pigeot (I miss him :(
squirtle (one of my faves as a kid)
charizard (classic)
pikachu (obvious)
(whoever the last guy in his main kanto team was it's been soooo long or butterfree kingler muk or tauros)
