What will Ash new rival personality be like?

Will the guy be like Harley or Drew or both or have his own personality? I can't wait to see this guy in action ^_^
Its been so long since Ash has had a rival so it will be awesome.
 
Most people see him as the loner type.

I hope his personality doesn't clash with Gary's. It's strange that Ash has two rivals so early on in D/P considering he didn't have any for the last 191 episodes.
 
To be fair, we have no idea how involved Gary is going to be. I'd say the fact he's been in 2 episodes so close together is a fair enough indication that the VA is happy to come back now but that's still a pretty small indication really.

Baring in mind, of course, that when Gary WAS Ash's rival, we saw him every 30+ episodes if we were lucky. I'd expect Gary will probably end up like that again - if only to keep the fact that he's somehow ahead or better than Ash realistic and generally possible - and that Shinji, maybe, could take the same approach as Drew and Harley by being a proper reccuring character at most of Ash's more important battles.
 
In the three years of Johto, Gary only appeared for 3 episodes before the actual Johto league. (Illusion Confusion, Power Play, and Extreme Pokemon)

Of course Gary appeared in almost every episode of the Johto league, but during the actual saga all he had was three measly episodes.

They might make Shinji overshadow Gary simply because he's a new character and they won't want to waste his potential, otherwise they would have introduced him for no reason if Gary is going to take center stage.
 
Don't give the writers that much credit Scott, they could do what you suggested. However, they could also use that guy as a secondary Gary, or a more "evil" trainer of sorts.

Thus, having conflict without ALWAYS having the rockets creating it.

Has it been confirmed Gary is going to be an actual TRAINER again...or is this just a one off before he researches again?

Also since this is an rival thread, is Morrison technically a Pokemon Master? Or is he just a Pokemon Master: Hoenn Divison ect...how does that work?
 
Gary merely said he was heading to Shino.

It's been pretty much taken that following his Hoso that he has felt he was really a trainer at heart though. My guess is that seeing Ash continuing on so successfully sparked him up to competing again.

Tyson is who you're thinking of. And he's a Champion, not a Master. There's no defined way of becoming a "Pokemon Master", thus as there's no specific way to gain the title of "Master Painter" or "Master Dancer" or "Master Fencer".
 
I hope Shinji is an experienced trainer like Satoshi. If he's not, then he's a joke because Satoshi could easily defeat him in battle with any number of his Pokémon. Even if he's using inexperienced Shin'ou ones, it doesn't matter because he still can beat the guy.
 
Oh that's a bummer I thought one achieved the rank of master by defeating the Indigo Pokemon League (or that's what I believed back then).
 
I want Shinji to be like Kaiba...like..

SCREW ASH! I HAVE MONEY!

And be like "If I had a dime for everytime you mentioned trust, I would be rich."

And "Friendship? Hah, Pokemon are merely ways to and end"

And, naturally "MEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH!"
 
Ash's reaction would be "Great! I haven't had any since I beat Morrison silly, come 'ere bitch!"
 
Nevermind, the line was "IF I had a dime for everytime you mentioned Destiny, I'd be richer."

But of course, Shinji probably isn't rich, nor would Ash mention Destiny...so, I changed it.
 
I think Shinji's personality will be like a serious type. He can't take a joke and doesn't have a sense of humor. Like Scott said, a loner. Also he might do something to Ash that make him lose a battle or something. Or maybe the type who cares about powering up Pokemon besides of befriending them.

Those are posibities. I am looking foward how Shinji is. XD
 
Basically a Kaiba, who is strong but uncaring (except for maybe one thing) and Ash tries to become "friends"...
 
^Yeah! Shinji would like Kaiba! Wow...I never thought about that. XD That would be cool. Need someone like that in Pokemon. But I doubt it. Oh well. We shall see.
