Last gym for sure will be 4 on 4 battle.
So what pokemon will he choose for his last gym challenge?
Please choose and explain why.

In the summary of the James ep, we already know he's training Monferno for the Gym.

So aside from Monferno, I'd say probably Grotle, Pikachu (it's an electric Gym after all), and maaaybe Gliscor.

The thing is Gliscor probably won't be on Ash's team by then.

Hmm...

I I were Ash I'd take...

Pikachu, Gliscor, Monferno, and Gible

Pikachu can take electric attacks, Gliscor is immune to them, Monferno is just freaking strong, and... Oh come on, IT'S A GIBLE.

I'm HOPING it'll be Pikachu/Grotle/Monferno/Gliscor and-or Gible. Four our of five of these guys resist Volkner's electric type Pokémon. Knowing Ash, however...

It also has to be taken into account whether Volkner will be using his DP or Pt team.

Pretty much agreeing with Scottcubed. Monferno is in training, Gliscor is immune to electric, Grotle resists it and they'll no doubt force in another Pikachu vs. Raichu fight.

It's kind of ironic that even though Ash will have two ground types when he finally gets there, half of Volkner's team isn't even electric anyway. Whichever one he uses will more than likely succumb to that very random Octillery.
Hopefully the gym isn't just a flat battlefield. Monferno vs. Ambipom swinging from girders and pipes dotted around the building would be damn cool.

he's definitly going to use pikachu since its an electric gym

and prob grotle, monferno, and gible depending on how many pokemon they're going to be using

Pikachu(as usual)
Grothle, Monferno, and Gliscor

I guess he would try to use Gible as well, idk...

If Ash doesn't use Gliscor he's officially going to be the dumbest trainer alive.

This. Unless its released and only at Oak's, if he DOESN'T use it, then...wow. Unless Gible is Super Krabby DEM enough to take on the toughest Gym Leader in Sinnoh, I don't see it being ready for Sunnyshore.

Let's get ready to sit through the third major Pikachu Vs. Raichu fight of the series.

I don't understand why so many people want Pikachu on electric Gym and some even want something as stupid another Pikachu vs. Raichu battle is. The only time I want to see Pikachu is against Octillery, if Volkner will use his DP team. If writers will suddenly switch to Platinum team for Volkner, I definitely don't want to see Pikachu here.
So, what I want to see:
against Volkner's DP team:
Pikachu (only against Octillery and then clear room for other Pokémon to shine)
Monferno (especially against Ambipom of course, but can be used against others too)
Gliscor or Gible (doubt he will use both of them but will be pleasently surprised if he will)
Grotle (hopefully it will evolve here, since it's its last time to shine before league, seeing the precedent with Snorunt in Hoenn)
against Volkner's Platinum team:
Monferno
Gliscor or Gible
Grottle
the fourth is hard to decide, since I don't want Pikachu on Electric type Gym, but both Staraptor and Buizel have type disadvetage, but I still preffer one of them before Pikachu, especially if Pikachu here should have mean another Pikachu vs. Raichu battle. I am really biased against such battle, I admitt, but seriously, am I the only one who think we saw enough of Pokémon vs. its evolved form battles (and especially wins)?

peno, Pikachu is an electric type. Electric attacks aren't supposed to be good against it. And if Volkner uses his DP team, Pikachu won't have to worry about that resistance either...

Wait, why am I trying to write game mechanics into the anime...

"Ash has three water pokemon and they're all weak to those three fire types"

Yeah... You know, they're just going to pick three random pokemon and Pikachu (because it's Pikachu) and have Ash win with them.

A bit too early for this, don't you think?
We have a mountain of fillers and a contest before we can even think about the Sunyshore Gym.
It more or less depends if Ash DOES get rid of Gliscor and replaces it with Gible. It also depends if it will be a 4-on-4 battle like the games. If it is, then I expected Ash to use Pikachu, Grotle, Monferno, and Gible. Considering how Ash used Snorunt in the last gen's gym 2 episodes after he got it, I won't be surprised.

me neither... he doesn't seem like the type who can tame one (...Charizard?)
