The topic is as the title says, also what does everybody think his default name will be? :-D

I think I may name him Rage Boy!

I will name him with his official (aka Japanese) name, like I did with Jun (Barry) and Silver.

I used to have a habit of doing that because it bothered me when I saw they had a different name to what it was really meant to be. But I think this time I'll try something different just because! Haha

I do it because I think the English names are stupid... Barry? Come on! XD
The only exception is Green (Blue), I always name him "Bitch".

Sorry, I went kinda off-topic here.

My sister is gonna call him "Azufro" in Black 2, while I'll be naming him "Azul" in White 2.

The rival is the PC's childhood friend, of course, and we decided that the girl PC is that childhood friend, so she calls him "Azufro" 'cause he has blue hair and it's foofy like an afro. As for me, "Azul" is his 'real name' of sorts, and it means "blue" in Spanish (or so Google tells me), and the boy PC isn't his childhood friend, so he calls him by his real name.

Azul was decided overall because he has blue hair, and also for me, it's a nod to the first rival of the Pokemon games.

I'll name him whatever his official name is. I know, I'm boring. :p

Hihihiroshi, obviously!

Just kidding. I used to always name the rival MEWTWO, since I always name myself MEW. But confound it, I already named the player character from B/W MEW. So I might just name the player character MEW2 this time.

@Mantiz Yeah agreed haha, even Hilbert and Hilda for the PC's last game? Toya and Toko are better.

@RedFairy I actually really like the whole Azufro thing, it makes a lot of sense if you put it that way! I also like how it's kind of a reference to Green/Blue.

@Secretive Trainer Do we know whether or not the Rival's get official names before the games release? Or do we find that out via in game data or something?

On a separate note, exactly one month until the games are released in Japan!

Probably Herpderp.

I like nicknaming my rivals with mild insults. Since most in-game trainers have normal-sounding names, it cracks me up whenever I battle a rival with a silly-looking name.

I will name my Rival Hoshizora, for it means Starry Sky in Japanese (According to my memory since I forgot how to speak most of the language). And I will name myself Altair, it means 'The Falcon' in Arabic.

Hoshi is star and Sora is sky, so I think it might be Hoshisora, but I could be wrong. That's a nice way to come up with a name though :)

No, Hoshizora is correct. When connecting two words, it's common to change the first syllable of the second word (sora → zora). Aozora (blue sky) is another example of this.

Oh I see, yeah I weren't sure. That's why I said I could be wrong :) thanks! I learned something new :-D I really need to study some more Japanese Grammar...

Japanese is actually quite easy to learn once you're halfway through it. I just watch Anime without subtitles to work on it when I get rusty.

They didn't let us name rivals in BW, so I kind of have doubts they'll let us name him now.

But if they do, I'll name him either Felix or Midas. Felix because I think it suits him, and Midas because Midas Touch is the song I was listening to when I first saw him in the scans.

They were able to name the rival Hihihiroshi in the demo on Pokemon Smash. I'm pretty sure rival-naming has returned.

I'll probably use his default name because I can't think of a name that suits him at the moment.
