What would be a good way to portray the Dream World?

Title says it all. Do I have to stick to the games or go wild with my own ideas?

Dreams, in any form, work best by doing what you want. If you want to go crazy, go crazy. If you want to keep it simple, make it simple. That's how you go about dreams. And if you need it to mean something that will come up later, just don't make the foreshadowing obvious as to what's coming. We may realize that it's foreshadowing something, but if we don't know what that something is, you're doing something right.

I used the Dream World in a chatroom RP not long ago. One of my characters, Shinichiro Takahashi, explained the so-called "world" as a result of a high concentration of "interdream energy" (named after the Interdream Zone from Pokémon Dream Radar) within the Entree Forest at the center of the Unova region. Papers published by Fennel and Burnet in this continuity explain this energy as an ill-defined phenomenon capable of "blurring the line" between dreams and reality. One who experiences a dream in an area rich with this energy will perceive it as hyper-realistic, almost like an alternate world (hence the name), and may wake to find that elements of their dream (such as encountered Pokémon and experience gains) have become real.

This energy can also appear outside of the Entralink, and may even be manipulated to some extent by a skilled enough Psychic or Aura adept, but such occurrences are rare.
