If you were a Trainer and could choose up to six Pokémon to own, what would you have? Would they be comprised of your favorites? Maybe Pokémon that are more practical to own? Perhaps a combination, or something else?

You can have up to six, but that doesn't mean you need to have six... so if you think you'd realistically own less, that's fine too! :yay:

for me this question is less about building a balanced team and more just picking six pokemon that have emotional significance to me so that being said.

1. Zoroark
2. Hisuian Typholsion
3. Banette
4. Jolteon
5. Latios
6. Aron (Team Mascot)

Aside from the Aron which is mostly just a pokemon i think is really cute and like a lot, these are all pokemon that have a lot of memories and emotional significance to me and are very dear to my heart.

In no real order here:
  • Alolan Ninetales :0038-alola:
  • Tyrantrum :0697:
  • Hissuian Lilligant :0549-hisui:
  • Scolipede:0545:
  • Umbreon :0197:
  • Mega Meowstic F (Ace):0678-female:
    1782872897152.webp

Mostly just core favorites of mine, aside from the legendaries. Most I really did in terms of viability/balance is on the typing coverage side of things

Hmmm… assuming I can’t have any legendaries…

  • Iron Bundle
  • Hydrapple
  • Morpeko
  • Skeledirge
  • Garchomp
  • Forretress (ace)

I’m pretty much just basing this on which pokemon I’ve really enjoyed using in a draft league I’m in, or at least have some funny memories with. I’ve drafted all but garchomp multiple times, which is ironically my favorite of the bunch. If I could have a legend, it would be zamazenta replacing Hydrapple. If I can’t have iron bundle due to it not being a “normal” pokemon, I would replace it with flamigo.

Alright, I'll make my realistic team, followed by a 6-mon team just incase I was feeling financially irresponsible.
  • Blastoise (Ace)
  • Sprigatito
  • Growlithe
Im pretty lazy, so I would genuinely not be that into battling. Besides having my favorite, the other 2 fulfill the type triangle, while also just being easy to care for. Do you think I can just go to my local mart and buy Dragonite skin care products? Those would probably be expensive imports from Johto! I definently wouldnt go above 3, because I can't really form bonds with (let alone feed) all of them. I would probably make minimum wage at a Pokémart or Café or something. A quiet but content existence
  • Blastoise (Ace)
  • Arcanine
  • Dragonite
  • Whimsicott
  • Seviper
  • Krookodile
they look cool
also how do you expect me to feed them? The police would come to my disproportionately large cardboard box and take my Pokémon away for neglect which I can't afford to fix. You did this by opening this spoiler. Yes, YOU willed this upon a hypothetical Bantigon who lives in the Pokémon world as a dirt-poor vagrant and cant afford his team. how dare you.

when i think about the team i would have if i self-inserted myself into the pokemon universe i always find myself considering the order in which i played the games irl and what my favourite pokemon were on those teams.

honestly i spend a not insignificant amount of time daydreaming about myself existing in the pokemon universe and i could ramble on and on about this ^^;

:0018:
the first pokemon game i played was pokemon yellow. though i think this was a completed copy owned by one of my older siblings. i remember fighting against the elite 4 over and over again and losing because i was too young to know what i was doing. but my favourite pokemon to use was pidgeot
i like to imagine that for a self-insert in the pokemon universe my older siblings went on a pokemon journey to kanto whilst i was still too young to go on my own journey and they brought me back a pidgey which would have been my first pokemon & would become my ace

:0260:
the first pokemon game i actually owned and remember playing from the beginning was pokemon sapphire. so i imagine my self-insert self when i was old enough went on my first pokemon journey through hoenn. i chose mudkip as my starter and called her buddy. i still have her in my pokemon home and she is quite precious to me

:0157-hisui:
my next game was silver. i picked cyndaquil as my starter. i remember that i liked quilava more than i did typhlosion so i gave my quilava an everstone. the next game i played was diamond. although hisui wouldnt come out until many years later i nonetheless like to imagine at somepoint during my sinnoh journey id be sent to hisui where my quilava would evolve into hisui typhlosion

:0773:
those first three are very firm choices for me. after this i become a little less certain. after sinnoh i played the pokemon games in order as they released and theres a lot of pokemon ive used in my playthroughs which i really like! but they also dont feel special to me in the same way those first three do...
the only other pokemon which comes close is silvally. gladion and type:null/silvallys journey in alola gets me feeling quite emotional.
would it be cringe to say id have a legendary pokemon on my team? maybe, but ive decided i dont care as this is just a self indulgent fantasy anyways :swirlix:

tl;dr is my team would be:
:0018::0260::0157-hisui::0773:

currently i think id only have four pokemon on my team. id probably have been a pokemon trainer at somepoint but would eventually become a pokemon rancher :bulbaCute:

If I lived in the Pokemon world I would probably go the Ash route, except with an Espeon as my partner (staying outside of its ball for all or most of the time): I would rotate the rest of my team often cause I don't really have a top 6.

It might not be practical to keep a full team of six due to space concerns and cost of care. I don't expect I'd really have much interest in competitive Pokemon battling if I lived in that world. I would want to keep a Corsola, of course, and beyond that I think a Yamper would make a good companion.

I don't think I'm gonna be battling that much, aside from maybe an occasional friendly battle per Pokeworld customs. So I'm definitely looking more at companionship and trying to be reasonable, plus. Pokemon I like.

Which is to say, I've selected:
:0359: - Absol. It's my favorite, I like it, it's probably not too much to take care of. Absol probably ends up being my ace in most battles
:0531:- Audino. Again, I like, it would be helpful to have around, pretty convenient for most spaces, I have medical issues and that would be helpful. But mostly, I like it
:0235:- Smeargle. Once again, I like it. I'm an artist, so I think I'd get on with it well, and aside from that, it's a dog. I can take care of a dog.

I considered Gothorita, as another favorite of mine, but that line is kind of troublesome with the showing people the heat death of the universe and kidnapping children. That's above my paygrade, so I'll keep it simple at three.

I'd have some of my top favorites:

1. Galarian Rapidash. Of course, my #1 favorite Pokemon of all time, and pretty useful in battle with a very good double typing.
2. Alolan Ninetales. Another one of my top favorites. Ice is a weaker type, but Ice is my favorite type in terms of it being ice type and me liking cold. lol
3. Hisuian Samurott (or regular Samurott). This is my favorite fully evolved starter.
4. Zebstrika. One of my longtime favorites, and I always feel like I need an Electric type.
5. Houndoom. I've always liked this Pokemon, and Fire and Dark is a great typing that I feel like I'd need.
6. Sawsbuck. I love this Pokemon and it represents how tuned in I am to the seasons.

If I wasn't dedicated to battling?
  • Corviknight: Incredibly rad, and also very practically useful for transportation. Of the large mons capable of flying comfortably while carrying a human, I think Corviknight strikes the best balance between what I'd want and what I'd realistically be able to find and take care of. (Dragonite would be so, so cool, but that's a pipe dream.)
  • Bayleef: Invigorating aromatherapy that hopefully helps with executive dysfunction as well as fatigue.
  • Espeon: A smaller companion that would hopefully be able to communicate with me via telepathy, on their own behalf and on behalf of the other two.

If I were a trainer in the Pokemon world, my team would be

  • :0194:Wooper named Shoopy
  • :0549:Lilligant named Tsubaki
  • :0303-mega:Mawile named Titania, usually the team's mega
  • :0334:Altaria named Harmony, team transport and occasional mega
  • :0197:Umbreon named Yato, maybe shiny?
My 6th favorite Pokemon changes frequently so I can't commit to anything for sure. If I had to pick right now, I'd go with a :enzap:Skiploom named Poppy

Don't ask my team about the move freeze dry. They are NOT fans
