For those of us who are adventurous eaters, what's the most "out of the ordinary" thing you've ever eaten (doesn't necessarily have to be meat.....)?

I've tried an ostrich burger a few years back, thought it was a bit gamy for my tastes, and it kinda disagreed with my stomach.
My local grocery store sells sriracha-flavored bacon jerky. Not bad, but knowing sriracha sauce as much as I do, it's pretty spicy.

Also tried a bison steak. Leaner than beef....

EDIT: Not sure if there is already a thread like this.......

I think "crazy food" really depends on perspective. I mean, in America it might seem weird/gross to eat eel but in Japan it's pretty normal. I've eaten unagi and currently have some in my freezer.

Where I come from (Latin America) it's common to eat beef heart, which also seems weird/gross to Americans. I eat heart anticuchos fairly regularly. ... also this post is making me want some now. ^<__<^;;

So I don't really know what other "weird" stuff I eat because to me it all seems pretty normal.

^ Yeah, one of my favorite foods is menudo, which has the meat of a cow's stomach. Very normal food where I'm from. Tasty stuff! It's wonderful! ^^

Yeah, one of the countries I've lived in has mondongo, which is a soup made of cow/pig stomach. I've never tried it, but I'm not diametrically opposed to trying it or anything. Just never really got around to trying it.

Nothing so adventurous as you all, though I'd love to try something truly exotic.

About the most interesting thing I've eaten is alligator (if you consider that odd) or eel/octopus/roe, whichever is better.

Same here, except I've also tried squid before. It was very chewy.

I like eel though. I get an eel roll almost every time I have sushi. :D

Normally if a food doesn't appeal to me I avoid it, but the craziest food I've probably had was plain old chicken liver, and I absolutely hated it and spit it out. :s

ox testicles - i was on my friend grandma house, and thought it was meatballs, when I discoverd what was, I wanted to puke, but the taste is not bad, actually

Caviar - Not weird, but i know a lot of people who never ate that. I don't like the taste though. I mean, it's not yumi, but it's common on family gathing so i eat for education

Already ate raw squid on a sushi's house. Again, i had no idea what it was... the texture is horrible Blergh

Have already ate rabbit, another birds that are not chicken, and scallop, all are good. Not my favorite dishes though

It's something common here, but in others places not so much: heart of chicken. Is usual to eat that on barbecue

Bear meat, in Japan.
it tastes good?

I love black caviar. Red caviar not so much. Bleh.

I've tried squid before but the way I had it wasn't particularly pleasant. Very chewy. I've been thinking of trying to make it myself in another dish though. Generally I will give food a couple of different chances before I totally dismiss it. I've had scallops too. I made them once also so maybe that colours my opinion of it but it was pretty good. Not the most delicious thing in the universe, plus they absolutely STINK before you get them cooked which is pretty gross, so I don't know if I'll ever make them myself again, but I might eat them in a restaurant if I don't see something else I'd rather have.

I really like paté, which is generally duck or goose liver. Never had chicken liver though. The willlingness to eat organs is pretty hit or miss with me. I don't particularly want to try kidneys because they are the filtration system for the urinary tract so the idea of it is rather gross even though they are cleaned before cooked/eaten.

One thing I absolutely refuse to ever try is brain. Not only is the very idea gross, but brains are where prions are. Not that all brains have prions but as far as I know it's not practical to send all your brains to a lab to be tested prior to eating them. ^<__<^;; Prions are misfolded proteins. No cooking method or freezing will kill prions. Hell, you could literally set it on fire or drown it in bleach and the prion would still be like, lol what I'm still here. (not that anyone wants to eat an immolated or bleached food but that's not the point) Plus, there is NO cure for prion diseases. Once you have a prion disease it WILL 100% kill you eventually, and the symptoms are awful. Encephalitis, meningitis, dementia, and did I mention it's guaranteed to kill you? So no brains for me, ever, of any animal. It's too much of a gamble for my taste, and I never gamble cause my luck is awful. ^<__<^;;

Ay, squid! Squid is pretty good too, though I'd have to say I'm more of an eel fan. ^^ That and octopus are a bit too chewy for my liking, though sometimes I get odd cravings for them.

I like to noms Fried Snakes..

This sounds really tasty! I imagine it's a pretty crunchy dish?

Pig brain in a Mexican restaurant, it's at the top of my "most disgusting food I've ever eaten" list.

Woah that sounds like quite an experience. What made you decide to try it?

I personally have had the chance to try brain, lung, and food like that but was always too afraid. xD

My father urged me to try it once when we went out to eat. It tasted like pork liver but stronger and had like the consistency of fluffy steamed eggs. It was, from my experience, bitter and a little salty.

The weirdest foods I've eaten and disliked are chicken liver, pig ears and octopus.

Something I guess someone else would consider weird that I really like are chitlins (chitterlings is the proper term, I guess?). They're the small intestines of a pig. Souse meat (hogshead cheese) is good too, just squishy (eck!).

Also, chocalate tea. I say this because I'd never had it before and the concept of chocolate as a tea was suprising. It was really good!
