What's the weirdest difference you've ever seen between voices in a Japanese sub and an English dub of an anime?(just make sure the anime has an english dub first ^-^')

I'd have to say....

1. Nyasu/Meowth(Pokemon) His japanese voice is just so.....different. They sound like completely different characters.

2. Koizumi(Haruhi Suzumiya) Not as bad, but his voice is a lot deeper in the japanese version.

3. Konata Izumi(Lucky Star) ............all I have to say is WOW. These two sound NOTHING like each other.

4. Satoko Houjou(Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni) Her japanese voice sounds really grown up and mature-ish, and then in english she sounds like an adolescent boy.

Those are about the only ones I can think of right now...

Careful... Steady... Careful... Do not mention Pokemon VA names...

Unfortunatley, I didn't like the English voice for Chihiro in Spirited Away too much. Daveigh Chase was good for the part, but Chihiro's voice sounds WAAAY too much like Chase's other VA job for Lilo in Lilo and Stitch.

Well, there weren't many differences I've seen in anime movies as of yet.

And Higurashi kept most of theirs really close.

Keiichi, Rena, Shion, Mion, and Rika and stayed pretty close.

But just about everyone in Lucky Star. Especially Konata. *shiver*

Bokomon and Neemon from Digimon Frontier. In Japanese, Bokomon sounds like a hyperactive child and Neemon sounds like a tired old man. In English, Bokomon sounds like a haughty erudite scholar (which he really *is*) and Neemon sounds really high-pitched.

This.

To be on the safe side, let's not even talk about the Pokemon/Pocket Monsters anime period here, mainly because it can open some pretty nasty floodgates if the "right" people see it being discussed here.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say Konata from Lucky Star. She sounds like a female version of Bart Simpson. *cringe* She's the one who sticks out in my mind the most.

How come no one mentioned Goku from DBZ yet? He literally sounds like a little kid in Japanese!

There's alot I could mention, but Molly from Sailor Moon is going to take the cake for me. I couldn't stand watching the dub whenever she was in an episode. Her voice just sounded.. awful in my opinion.

I think Mikuru from Haruhi Suzumiya was the worst I've heard. Her English voice was very... um... annoying? I dont mean to insult anyone who liked the way it sounded, but to me, it sounded whiny and well, annoying!

Oh, Haruhi Fujioka in Ouran sounded very different. But I liked it. Same with Kaoru Hitachiin, the scratchy voice wasnt what I expected, but it fit. Even Tamaki was different. Vic Mignogna was perfect for the role, and I loved it, but in Japanese he was much deeper.

I agree. She did sound way too much like Lilo, even though the voice itself was good for Chihiro.

Koan, one of the four evil sisters from Sailor Moon R. She had two dub voices. The first was good, the second one sounded like Butch...

Wow. I JUST NOW realized that she DOES sound like that......even if she is awesome, they killed the voice...

Jason Griffith as Sonic: Worst Sonic voice EVER! Those morons at 4Kids should've stuck with Ryan Drummond and the rest of the Original Game VA's instead of the horrible Sonic X ones!

You know, this isn't "whose English voices suck", it's "weirdest voice difference". Those can be improvements as well. Not to mention that having a bad voice may not be very much different from the Japanese voices.

Yeah, plz don't bash VA's or this thread might get locked, no matter WHAT show it is.

Now that I think about it, Fuu/Tiff's voice from Kirby. Also, King Dedede's voice in Japanese is awesome. Then 4kids gets it and we get a western guy. 4kids kills all voices.

Yes, this is a good idea. I'm leaving this thread open because it seems to be sane and thoughtful so far, and it is interesting to see times when the JPN and dub va's sound completely different. Whether someone likes this is a matter of opinion, and this shouldn't be an opinion thread, but moreso a fact thread.
