What's with the GTS?

Sorry if this is an inappropriate thread, but can someone explain me why the Hell I frequently see people asking Legendaries in exchange of some Level 1 normal (as opposed to Legendary) Pokémon?
Are there people who would exchange a Legendary for a regular monster?
I could get it for something like Dratini (because Dragonite) is a Pseudo-Legendary, but for a Rowlet or Porygon?

No one really knows, but some people do it so they can trade their Pokémon to themselves in another game (from Sun to Moon for example). Asking a Legendary/Mythical in return will make sure that no one else will trade their Pokémon before they do it themselves.

However, there's already a thread pretty much about this: They really need to make the GTS smarter , so closing this one.
