Any theories on why do Zoey hates so much people who do both contests and gyms? This sure makes her character so much interesting.

I wonder how will she act now she was defeated by Nando. YAY for character development.

She seemed to be somewhat regretful for judging Nando.

I really don't know why. At fist I thought she was just mad at Ash since he seemed to be acting like Contests were no big deal, but her getting mad at Nando who took them seriously made me realize my assumption was wrong.

Hopefully they'll give Zoey a,gasp, backstory!

She'll probably get a backstory down the road.

Remember, she's a coordinator. Coordinators are generally some of the best developed characters in the series so I expect her to be fleshed out as time goes on.

My problem with Zoey is the writers basically have her repeat the same speech every time she appears. A bit repetitive, much? Why don't the writers spice it up and have her and Dawn sing a duet or something?

I had a feeling it would take a Nando thrashing for Zoey to begin to come around, but I think we're not getting any answers until we see Fantina.

Perhaps she doesn't have the talent to do both and resents it. So she's jealous of those who do. I don't know, hopefully the writers will explain this later.

I think the most likely explanation would be that she thinks someone like Nando reflects poorly on trainers who specialize exclusively in contests. She probably puts her heart and soul into training for contests, spending ALL her time on perfecting appeals, training for contest battles, and making the perfect pokeblock/poffins to bring out her Pokemon's attributes. She lives and breaths contests specificly, so she might view someone like Nando, who obviously spends less time training for contests than her (since he also must spend some of his time training for gyms), as reflecting badly on her. "Contests are my whole life, so how can someone who doesn't dedicate as much time as I do possibly be that good?"...or else "how does it look when someone who's dedicated their life to contests is put on the same level as someone who consideres it just one of several hobbies/activites?"

^ Pretty good ideas, I can see something similar to that being revealed. Another idea I have is that Zoey's parent(s) tried to attempt both Gyms and Contests but failed, and after Zoey saw the failure of her parents at doing both she decided to stick to one thing.

Of course, we literally never get any family background to any of the rival characters (Gary and Prof. Oak being the only obvious exception), so this probably isn't it either.

Maybe she actually collected bagdes before. Zoey did sound like she had some knowledge of them. She might have competed in the Sinnoh League and lost very early, causing her to think that she doesn't have what it takes to do Gyms anymore, so she tried Contest, liked them, and anyone that does Gyms aswell as contests makes her think of her defeat.

Just a thought.

Yep, I believe the most likely explanation is that she has tried to collect badges at some point, be it at the same time she competed in contests as well or not. I wonder what would had made her stop doing that, if it was a bad overthrow, something bad someone told her, or else.

I had a feeling it would take a Nando thrashing for Zoey to begin to come around, but I think we're not getting any answers until we see Fantina.

Yeah, it's quite possible that Zoey will be around when the gang get to meet Fantina, and maybe Nando - wow, if it happens, this episode is going to be total pwnage.
