I imagine this topic has been asked before, but I wanted to bring it up because I was thinking about video game music, when led me to thinking a lot about my favorite intros to games.

What are some of your favorite opening cinematics? For me, I'm a huge, huge fan of the Ace Combat series, and so I love the opening cinematics as well, particuarly for AC5 and Zero. That's why my pick is the opening from Ace Combat Zero. (I love it so much I have a quote from it in my sig)

What are some of your picks? :)

Never played it, but Namco X Capcom's intro, Brave New World, is pretty stellar.

I also liked Sonic CD's intro, though with the American opening track.

Sonic Adventure's opening was so cool to me as a kid, and it is still cool, especially when Perfect Chaos is shown and when "Open Your Heart" kicks in. SA2 will always be my fave, but SA1 had the best intro and is iconic to me.

@FinalArcadia; I had a GameCube game as a kid called Godzilla: Destroy All Monsters Melee, and the intro of that game does the same "shuddering manhole cover" bit, and I remember being at a friend's house and playing both games and being confused, haha.

At first I was going to mention Persona 3 since that game starts with a beautifully atmospheric and attention-grabbing cinematic that sets the tone for the rest of the game, but then I realized this thread is about eye catches, not the actual beginning sequence of a game. So I have to go with my favorite eye catch... Persona 3.

Well, it's not that often an intro makes me want to buy a game, but this here's one of those times:
I mean the video says 'anouncement trailer' but it's literally just the intro. I can see why they used that as the announcement trailer though. :D

Also, Monster Hunter games tend to have rather good intros, so here's MH4U's intro since that's my favourite Monster Hunter game I've played:

Oh, and I tend to be rather indecisive when it comes to favourite anythings and this here is no exception, just saying.

I couldn't just pick 1!

"Draw Kirby" from Kirby's Adventure It's short and simple, but I always waited to see it. Here it is in gif form:

FE Radiant Dawn's intro was another favorite from when I was younger . It's mostly cinematics from the game but the music matched the nature of the scenes and made them a lot more epic.

Just my favorite part from the intro. Gives me chills every time. This version of Terra's theme is so beautiful. I couldn't wait to help free her.

To me, this opening symbolizes Wander and Agro's lone journey in an almost lifeless world, as well as Wander's willingness to go to whatever lengths to revive his love. Do I even need to mention the music?

And finally, the Chrono games!

That one is such a good thing. It's the last thing you'd expect to see turning on a console.

Anyway.
I kind of hold a place for Tales of Phantasia's SFC intro for its opening song with lyrics. It was a pretty big deal as an snes cartridge at the time.

I could probably name quite a few, but I'll just pick the ones that I feel are most worthy of mention.

The intro to Planescape: Torment is just as bone-chilling every time I watch it.

It gives you an idea of what the game is about while presenting a lot of questions for the players to uncover on their own. A truly artistic intro for an artistic game.

The beginning of Bioshock was pretty sweet, namely for Andrew Ryan's speech as you're being led to Rapture through a submarine pod.

It's horrifying and yet also stunning as you view the gorgeous underwater city of Rapture through your windowpane.

I also gotta mention the intro to Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, complete with the cinematic opening crawl of a Star Wars movie (like many SW games) and using LIVE-ACTION CUTSCENES.

Finally, I want to mention The Tale of Icewind Dale. I love the presentation by the narrator for the background story, along with Jeremy Soule's fitting background music during the intro.

Also, this. A truly powerful intro, without being so flashy. I can only imagine how stunning watching those credits roll after that prologue would have been in 1994 when the game was first released.

shut up and enjoy the Anime. Most of the later Tales of Oping are lovely thanks to ufotable, not to say that the old ones are bad, but darn are the new ones shiny. While I can't say that it's the best Xillia 2's op is the closest to my heart

Say, you know how I said that it's not often an intro makes me want to buy a game? Yeah, well, this here's another one of those.

Need I say any more?

Also, does 'intro' have to mean the cinematic before one sees the title screen? Because I rather enjoy the opening levels of Bayonetta & Bayonetta 2, both of which do a good job setting up the whole over-the-top nature of the whole affair while simultaionusly giving the player some backstory and letting them get the hang of the controls. It's just a matter of what a player actually pays attention to, or something.

This is just an epic way to start a story.
