I saw that there was a thread like this about writing, so I figured we could use a drawing counterpart too.

What things do you like to draw most? This could be anything from subjects, specific details (eyes, faces, materials, etc), scenes, whatever you think of.

My own favorite things to draw usually just end up being my favorite characters at the moment, but from a more general standpoint I enjoy drawing hands and hairstyles, especially when they're more detailed and I can stylize them more. (And I like drawing robots and mechanical things, that will never change.)

I like to draw the most the things that allow me to express my (frequently silly) ideas the best at the moment. So everything and anything that I have on my mind that holds some sort of meaning to me. If I don't care about it I don't want to draw it... [That makes practicing so called fundamentals extremely hard(almost impossible) for me lol even though I really need to and want to ]

Characters are enough most of the time. There's been a gradual shift from cartoon toward more anime traits, an increase in color, yet less text or dialogue.

I like drawing my favourite characters!!! I especially love drawing curly/wavy hair. I usually end up stylizing characters with straight hair to be more wavy so it's easier for me to draw. ^^; I also love drawing fancy dresses!!! If I'm drawing a character a lot my first instinct is to draw them in a ball gown <3

as for specific details, i love drawing hair and fur. i don't know what it is. it's just super satisfying for me. pretty much all aspects of doing it too - sketching, lining, shading/rendering, it's all so much fun. i find myself spending more time perfecting the hair on my artwork than any other part just because i enjoy doing so

and as for subject matter, aside from the obvious answer of "I LOVE DRAWING LIKODOT" (lol) i really love drawing two-character poses where the characters are like... entangled? i love drawing entanglement. i don't mean that it has to be literal cuddling or something (though i do love drawing cuddling) but balancing two-person poses and figuring out the overlap points of the pose and making people naturally lean into/away from each other is probably my #1 favorite part of drawing these days. it's funny because when i first started drawing human subjects, i hated drawing couple poses, because i just found them so frustratingly difficult, but now i get bored drawing one person just standing there lol, i need to slot two people together in a piece of artwork like a puzzle!!

I kind of mentioned this in another thread, but I really love drawing faces! I think you could tell a whole story by how you draw a characters face, and I probably spend an unreasonable amount of time making sure I'm conveying whatever emotion/feeling the moment represents.

Also, I feel naturally inclined as an illustrator to focus on composition. To me it feels like a puzzle trying to figure out where to place everything in perspective! Its really satifying when you figure out how something in an illustration should look lol.

And I think I do like redrawing memes. I used to redraw memes a lot and I'd be pretty fast/accurate at drawing them before they drop off in popularity. But that's also really exhausting. So I've found it better for my mental health just to redraw random tumblr posts that make me laugh or older memes that fit the vibe lol. I mainly do it for teh sillies anyway.

omg i totally forgot in my initial reply that i wanted to respond to this
i also have this problem and my answer to it has just been to make practicing the fundamentals also about my blorbos. even my sister who is going professional and is currently in art school does this so it's a tried and true method LOL. i remember they sent me art they made where they had to draw the entire human skeleton in various poses in class, and then they just... drew danganronpa characters on top of the skeletons to make some really cool x-ray type art of the characters they like. not saying you need to draw the entire human skeleton to understand anatomy by the way, unless that's useful for you. but like, there are ways to make most studies involve subject matter you actually care about at least a little bit... good luck

give me your power because composition stresses me out and i have a tendency to always make my compositions too cramped/cluttered no matter how much i study negative space LOL

To add on to the fundamental/anatomy talk, I cannot, CANNOT, draw from a blank canvas. If there's even a single arm on the page I can draw an entire character, but if I have to draw from COMPLETE scratch, everything looks so floppy. I think that's how my artstyle manifested, by taking a single sprite, and the removing most of it's uniqueness and then sculpting and detailing into my specific style, since I am just unable to start from zero. I tip I can share is, take a character with a pose that you like, draw a vague skeleton (like literally like one of those wooden pose dummies) of it, and draw maybe one or two character with it. If you need an example, that is how I made my Spinel Sprite, I drew a skeleton for Spinel's official art, drew another character I liked in that same pose, and then drew my Spinel, and I don't think I would've been able to draw it the way I did if I didn't try this. Learning fundamentals/anatomy is a very difficult thing that, I honestly suck at, so hearing others with the same issue makes me try and share my own "solutions" as much as possible. Heck I'm in a whole art prompt competition, just to try and learn anatomy better XD.

Creatures!! the most fun I have drawing is when I enter a kind of spaced out creative flow state and I just fill an entire page with strange and whimsical creature and character designs. I tend to skew towards ghosts, insects, weird birds, fish, and angels.

my favourite thing to draw is simon blackquill i make stupid goofy faces whenever i'm drawing him and i like how it's coming out

next to him my favourite things to draw are dogs, jolteons, and pikachus

if i'm testing a drawing tool/method or doodling on the spot for someone, 90% of the time it's going to be a pikachu or a jolteon because they are my warm-ups

Depends on my mood… If I space out and don’t think too hard, I end up having fun making some really wacky and surreal monsters and creatures. I also like drawing people, particularly girls, usually cartoony but also sometimes semirealistic.

Mostly my own OCs (as per my profile pic), although occasionally I might just draw whatever (which mostly manifests in animal characters who look like they stepped out of Looney Tunes).

I have this fanmade tv series that i like to draw about its about a rescue team of poorly drawn pokemon who live in a town called Poketopia and when they are not doing their job they like to goof off.

I swear it sounds bad but wait til you see my concepts! I will make a separate thread someday

Its called The Besties

Usually just my favorite characters! I draw headshots mainly, but I do like using them when testing posing/anatomy as well :]

meeeeeeeee!

but Spheal and Gardevoir tie for second place

  • LONG FLOWING HAIR. God, I love it. I spend so much time on hair, it's ridiculous. Most important part and favorite thing for sure. I just like long flowy features in general, like scarves, tassels, capes, etc.

  • My primary fursona over and over again until I go mad because I can't quite get a design down for her yet.

  • Stylized animelike creatures - usually canines, felines, ungulates, birds, dragons, dinosaurs, and serpents. Involves a lot of Pokemon and some Digimon. I have a preference for majestically cute designs like Milotic, Dragonair, and Eeveelutions.

  • Anthropomorphic creatures, of course. Clothed in elegant outfits like tailcoats, dresses, ruffs, ribbons, bows, etc.

  • Abstract shapes and symbols. Usually swirls, circles, heavily stylized wings, diamond shapes, stars, etc. I draw these a lot when I'm just idling rather than deliberately. The shapes often turn into abstract beast silhouettes. I LOVE drawing creature silhouettes because detailing eyes, mouths, features... some of my least favorite stuff.
