Now instead of AbilityShipping, I'm playing a completely opposing angle and writing a Pokéshipping fic. But this one isn't Ash and Misty's first date, Ash and Misty's first kiss, Ash and Misty's first time......er, yeah, you get the point. Instead, I'm going to do something I've never done before---play the angle of a romance forced apart unwillingly.
The PG-13 rating, by the way, is for the blatant sex reference in the lyrics of the song. I didn't write it, blame the Swedes. ~_^

---"When All is Said and Done"---
Original Lyrics: 1981 by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus
Lyrics taken from Abbasite.com
It was time.
She didn't want to accept it, but the fact couldn't be denied. It was time.....to say goodbye.
It all started with that awful phone call from her sisters, that they had decided to abandon their duties as Gym Leaders and dump it all on her. And now, because of them, she had to say goodbye to the one she loved almost more than life itself.
Here’s to us
one more toast
and then we’ll pay the bill
deep inside
both of us
can feel the autumn chill
The weather that day was awful, nothing but rain, yet there they stood, facing each other in an open field near the lake where she had literally fished him out so many glorious years earlier. He was wearing his favorite baseball cap, the one he had sent in thousands of postcards to the Pokémon League to win, yet she stood there, the pouring rain matting her fiery orange hair.
"Misty, I........" The boy struggled for words, something Misty always found cute. He was never an incredibly bright or sharp person, often missing the most obvious things.
"It's okay, Ash," Misty tried her hardest to comfort him. It had been hard work getting through to him her feelings... and now all that work meant nothing. "It isn't my fault and it most certainly isn't yours."
birds of passage
you and me
we fly instinctively
when the summer’s over
and the dark clouds hide the sun
neither you nor I’m to blame
when all is said and done
"Believe me," Misty continued, "it's my dream too ... that we could just run away from it all ... but it's not ...."
Ash noticed a tear come to Misty's eye. He didn't need any help recognizing this emotion, so he pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and helped Misty wipe it away.
"Me too. You would love Houen ... I wish you could come with me."
In our lives
we have walked
some strange and lonely treks
slightly worn
but dignified
and not too old for sex
Misty's mind was completely warped and disconnected from reality. It was just a freely flowing jumble of memories and emotions.
"Ash --- " she suddenly blurted out. "Remember that time that that crazy magician made me wear that Goldeen dress for his act and I was humiliated that you saw me?"
"Melvin! Yeah, I remember him. You know, you shouldn't have been humiliated at all. I thought you looked very nice in it."
As soon as she heard this, Misty's eyes widened to the size of saucers. Was she wrong about Ash all along? Had he shared the same feelings for her and the same difficulty in revealing them?
we’re still striving for the sky
no taste for humble pie
thanks for all your generous love
and thanks for all the fun
neither you nor I’m to blame
when all is said and done
"Hey, Misty, remember that time..." Now it was Ash's turn to wax nostalgic. "That time I got all depressed at the Kanto League after Richie beat me?"
"I would've never forgiven Charizard for what it did then." Misty clearly did remember. "That proves you're a much better trainer than I ever could be."
"And what about when Brock left us to go with Prof. Ivy? I know Tracey was with us and all, but I was really lost. I......" Ash took a deep breath, preparing to spill something significant. "You really helped me through that a lot, Misty. You were there for me."
Again tears came to Misty's eyes, but Ash had teared up too and couldn't help her. The two embraced ...
It’s so strange
when you’re down
and lying on the floor
how you rise
shake your head
get up and ask for more
"Oh, Ash...." Misty said into the folds of Ash's blue jacket. "I.."
A ringing sound interrupted their embrace. Ash let go and checked his watch.
Now it was really time.
"Misty......the ferry to Houen's leaving soon. I can't stay any longer. I guess this is.....goodbye....."
Ash took off his hat and placed it upon Misty's head as she stood frozen, a combination of shock, sadness and fear paralyzing her.
"Keep it," he told her hurriedly. "Keep it as a memory of me. Goodbye, Misty..."
Now having his black hair exposed to the pouring rain, Ash walked away into the distance with a bit of speed behind his step. Misty, however, just stood there.
"Ash......"
And that was it. Misty collapsed to her hands and knees, the hat tumbling off her head to the gravelly ground. The rain mixed with her tears and visually drowned her in emotion...
clear-headed and open-eyed
with nothing left untried
standing calmly at the crossroads
no desire to run
there’s no hurry any more
when all is said and done
standing calmly at the crossroads
no desire to run
there’s no hurry any more
when all is said and done....
END
