I just watched AG069/Love, Petalburg Style! again, the one where Caroline thinks that Norman is cheating on her with Nurse Joy and she plans to walk out on him.

Let's talk about that story and any other elements of Pokemon that has ever been akin to a Soap...

Most of the Contest episodes had shoujo/soap opera elements in them.

Ash losing against a gym leader and trainer of the day before the rematch, Dawn's early losses in the contest, and the last episode of a region's saga.

Jame's Chimecho getting some kind of incurable disease. Textbook Soap right there.

Old guy is really....Brock's deadbeat dad!!! Dun dun dun!
Brock's mom is really alive! Dun dun dun!

Any episode where they try to be serious or dramatic. The ones where Ash releases a Pokemon stand out.

Don't soap operas take emotional/dramatic plots and spread them over several eps? I'd hardly call one episode of angst soap opera material. Like the whole Norman/Caroline/Nurse Joy thing. That got resolved in just 15 minutes.

That, uh, bickering episode from AG. The one with Oscar and Andy.

Wow this is so strange. I watched this exact same episode today and thought the exact same thing. They never outright said she thought he was cheating, but to anyone without a childs brain it was obvious what they were implying, and I was a bit like "really? Extra marital affairs in a kids tv show???"
