This may sound absurd, but when I got my first Pokemon game on my fourth brithday (after watching the anime for some two years), I went through all three starters for about a month, playing a couple of times a week. I specifically remember alternating with a Mario game and some Loony Tunes game. Finally, one session of playing I discovered Leech Seed and continued to pick Chikorita because I was to cheap to buy potions. I remember getting my second badge one day sitting at a barber shop. Shortly after I discovered the save button, and stuck with the little guy. Thats my story. It may be rediculous question, but I was just wondering if anyone else played for a while without saving. Discuss your experiences Pokemon universe!

It's almost like playing without a memory card, which I did for two years...

Immediately, but I probably wouldn't have found it sooner where it not for the messages telling me about it.

I watched my brother play, since he was older he got to play Blue first.
So I knew of the 'Save' button pretty much immediately.

On the third day I played my first game (Emerald), I believe. I thought would auto-save, lol, and I wondered why I kept ending up back in Oldale Town.

I had played video games before Pokemon, so I already knew the concept of saving the game

When I found out that "Save" meant "Salvar" in English. It was so awesome playing a game in a language I then barely understoond. 8D

I played games earlier then platinum ( my first Pokémon game) so I knew how to save. but opening the menu on the other hand... tokk three seconds

pretty much like 10secs into playing. Even at 10 i was (and still am) a very "behind the scenes" kinda person, so before i start something i want to know all i can about it. So i read the manual that came with Gold and when i saw "Save" i knew exactly what it'd do, and the in-game tips helped some as well.

When I played my first Pokémon game, I found the Save button when I first opened the menu after a few minutes of playing. Since then, I never forgot how to save the progress in a Pokémon game. :p

I found it immediately because the Save button also allows you to look at the pokédex, the information about the pokémon in your party and the see what items you have. When first playing Pearl version I was suprised that X is now the normally button the do all these things instead of Start.

I don't think I even noticed it for awhile, and I knew what all the tabs meant. I saw save and passed it off as like options or something. It was probably because my other games were autosave and I had no memory card for my N64 and Gamecube.

The instant I first opened the menu in Gold, probably when I first went to try out my Pokégear or check on my first Pokémon. It was right there, pretty obvious. I hadn't played anything previously that really had a "save" feature, but it still wasn't that hard to find...

It took me a few days...and when I finally discovered the save function, I saw the text, "Saving, do not turn off the power." This made me panic making me think I could never turn it off again...and when the batteries died (first game was Crystal, so I'm on a Gameboy Advanced), upon replacing them, I found that I was still where I saved...
And that's my story.

When I first got my game I was convinced that I needed a memory card. Though I didn't know where to put one if I got one. My stupid 6 year old brain made me think, "Oh! My friends Nintendo 64 needs a memory card, so my Gameboy Advance must need one too! After all, they are both made by Nintendo." Thankfully, I saw the save button when I randomly pressed Start.

I tested the buttons as soon as I got control of the game (shortly after Oak shrinks you at the beginning.) I pretty got it handled from there.

Hahaha! Thats almost like what happened to me.
