I would like to know when the writers will let Ash have a pokemon of each type. what do you think? now that he has captured a Gible which is a Dragon type all he needs to capture is a Steel, Ghost, Rock, Dark and Psychic type pokemon to have caught one of each type. Unofficial pokemon not included like Haunter or Larvitar. :-D

I think that as long as Brock is a main character, Ash won't catch a rock-type... Dark-type I think is out of the question because the writers wouldn't want to give a pokemon like that unless they have a not scary or ugly base form like poochyena or houndour and stay unevvolved... Then again, I thought Gliscor was super ugly and that didn't stop the writers from evolving the much cuter gligar...

the thing is, the writers seem stuck in the pika-water-fire-grass-main bird pattern so that leaves only one spot for another type... so not before gen IX...

Well, it might be in the next season. After all, giving Ash a Gible was sure a shock.

Throughout the franchise's twelve-year history, Takeshi has caught a grand total of one new rock-type pokemon. I don't see why that somehow prevents Satoshi from getting a rock-type, especially since he had no problem owning water-types when Kasumi was around.

Jolteon is probably just worried that if Ash catches a Rock-type, Brock will try to lick it.

Which just goes to show that you can't really count on anything to be an indicator of something to come these days.

Well... aside from the Fire-Water-Grass-Flying thing, but people could've told you that 10 years ago.

What I meant was that I think that he's gonna get other types before a rock type... The 6th slot of his team next gen should be psychic or ghost before being rock or steel for example... Although, in recent gens they've fleshed out the types that Brock got a little bit more... Actually, looking back, Brock has owned 11 of the 17 types (Electric, Psychic, Dark, Ghost, Dragon and Ice missing) so about as much as Ash... so the rock thing doesn't really matter...
Still, probably because he was the pewter gym leader, I always associate him with rock-type

I dont think Houndour is ugly at all. Ash has had a few ugly pokemon though like Torkoal and Grotle

Anyway its a good thing Ash has finally got a dragon type. If he has to get a dark type then for me Houndour would be the perfect coice. For a ghost type my pick would be Gastly/Haunter/Gengar. For a psychic type Espeon would be amazing or even Medicham would be ok. I am not a massive fan os steel types in general and since Brock already has a Steelix, Lucario would be fine. My three fav rock types are Larvitar, Geodude and Onix, but its unlikely that Ash will ever get any of them so a Rhyhorn or Lairon would be good enough for Ash.

I don't think the stigma around Dark-types really matters... Gliscor has shown that you can slap a cute personality on a scary looking Pokemon and it's apart of Ash's team.

I think he'll get a steel-type next, though.

It won't happen this late in the series.

He gets the same fire/water/grass/flyer combo every gen, and only one or two new wild card Pokemon. There isn't enough room unless the show goes on for 7 or 8 generations.

Well, I don't know about ALL the types but I guess he would come close. Doubt he's going to get a ghost or a Dark-type tbh.

As far as Ash having certain types on his team, I'm really surprised at his collection of Ground Pokemon that have been accumulating.

- First was Phanpy, who later became Donphan.

- Next was dearly departed Gligar/Gliscor.

- Now we have the amazing Gible.

- There's potential for Grotle as his 4th overall Groundie if it decides to evolve to Torterra.

And rarely did we have significant Ground-type move Spammage in the manner we have Fire/Water/Grass/Electric attacks. All we've had over the years is an Earthquake, Dig, and a couple of Sand-Attacks. Could it be they enjoy less conventional attacks coming from less conventional Pokemon?

On the off-chance that the new Generation starters have a secondary typing to them, there's potential for Ash to maybe have something akin to a Steel or Psychic type. Of course, that's only if they feel like giving him one of those starters in the first place.

If Ash keeps following his pokemon team formula and he gets a new type of pokemon for the sixth wild card each generation, it'll probably take a while...

I actually noticed that Ash has used a Ground type pokemon a significant number of times. In fact, each series has Ash with a Ground type on the team.

Kanto/Johto: Phanpy in the Johto region
AG: Donphan for BF
Sinnoh: Gliscor and Gible

Pretty interesting.

Anyway, a steel type or dark type would be my next choices for Ash in the next generation.

I think it'll depend on the numerous amount of type combinations in the gens to come. Especially when referring to the Starters.

I kind of doubt he'll get a pure dark, or pure ghost, but combined with another type, and it might actually happen.

Hopefully there'll be a fire/flying Pokemon next gen that Ash gets so he can actually get two or more wild cards.

If the combinations work out, Ash could probably easily get all the missing types in one generation.

Like Fire/Steel, Grass/Ghost, Rock/flying, Water/Dark, Ground/Psychic or something along those lines.

However I seriously doubt the writers would do that unless the listed type combinations are marketable Pokemon, and even then Brock or some other person could get them. So even if it's possible for Ash to get all the missing types in one generation, it'll probably at least take 2-4 generations. Unless of course Ash gets something during the filler saga that is one of the types he didn't have.

Yeah, no doubt it'll be a Steel-type that can use Flamethrower, a Ghost-type that can use Water Gun, a Dark-type that can use Razor Leaf, etc. etc. All the essentials! Our home away from home in a kooky sort of way!
