Training Daze apparently changed it..Or did it?

We know that James ran away from home not long after he was engaged to Jessiebelle.
We know know he joined Tech School.
We know he joined a bike gang.

We know Jessie's mom, apparently, died in an avalanche.
We know Jessie was sent to a foster home.
She joined a nurse school.
She joined a Tech School.
She joined a bike gang.

But how did they meet, now that TD is into the canon-verse, if it is canon?

I've just assumed that they simply forgot about meeting each other after they went their seperate ways.

It's possible that Jessie and James met while they were in the bike gang (if they were in the same one). If not, they probably met in Team Rocket while they were still apprentices.

They seemed hostile toward each other in TD. However, if I recall correctly, that doesn't mean they hadn't met.

Heck, actually, both acted hostile toward anyone they met.

One thing I have to say is that they never actually went to Pokemon Tech, they just failed the entrance exam.

...And as for their past, who knows! XD Those two have too many alternate pasts!

Maybe, but wasn't it said they met? Even then, they most likely met around the cycling gang since they were in the same gang and the same town.

I just never considered Traning Daze canon. They met at Pokemon Tech, joined the bike gang after flunking out, and then went on to join TR.

The problem with that is that the episode has been referenced many times since then, whereas Pokemon Tech and the Bike Gang haven't.

But if you want to talk about those two episodes then I have this theory. I can't comment on the Japanese version of the Bike Gang episode, but I got the feeling from Pokemon Tech that they already knew each other since it sounded like they both applied at the same time. So either there was some prior history (Bike Gang?) or they met due to both failing the exam.

But the whole basis behind the Hoso was about how the Rocket-dan met. That's the closest the show has ever come to saying how the two met, so that pretty much retconns the two Kanto episodes. But IMO Pokemon Tech has been retconned anyway due to the whole "Pokemon have levels" thing.

So here's how I think the whole thing went down:

Kojiro ran away from home and eventually joined the Rocket-Dan. Nothing complicated there.

Musashi's mom died and she lived in various foster homes. Having to eat snow at one point, and when she got older she met that guy in her flashback from DP073. At some point she went to Houen and tried to be a Coordinator. (IMO that happened not too long after the guy left her and she realized her mistake of not going with him, so she tried to be a Coordinator to find him again. The same writer wrote both episodes, so it makes sense.) After the Coordinator thing didn't work out, she went (back?) to Kanto to do the nursing thing. When that didn't work she joined the Rocket-Dan.

So until the anime says otherwise, I'm going with they met in the Rocket-Dan.

I've always assumed they met in the bike gang, flunked out of applied to Pokémon Tech together, split up for some unknown reason, and then reunited in Team Rocket. Or maybe they joined Team Rocket together and then grew apart while in the organization before reuniting, one of those.

I suscribe the Multiple Choice Past. The best origin story for whatever the episode calls. This allows the writers to freely insert as many things as they can into any of the TRio's pasts. It also helps that they are purely an anime creation and have no origin or permanent counterpart in the games themselves.

This is the correct answer to the question. Anything else is pure speculation.

Personally, I like the fan theory detailed in the bottom of the Pokemon entry on that TVTropes page. It's not necessarily how it happened, but it seems very plausible.

It helps that I CAN'T STAND retcons and find it hard to believe the Pokemon writers retconned that early history. More like they forgot. That, I can believe.
