I was thinking about this the other day with thoughts of how when Charizard evolved it was given an entirely new personality from when it was a Charmander. Another time a pokemon's personality changed was when Ash's Chikorita evolved into a Bayleef and it virtually lost its crush on Ash. What do you think about how a pokemon's evolution and how it affects it? Or even if when it evolves it becomes an entirely new character?

You're forgetting Dawn's Mamoswine.

Sometimes when they evolve they get... very... full of themselves. OH HAY I EM SEW MACH STRNGAR NAO! Stupid stuff like that.

Bastard Pokemon. >

Also Trutwig when evolved it completely changed his character, this is how evolution wokrs, Pokemon becomes completely different than it was.

When Gligar evolved, it was still mostly the same character.

God I miss Gliscor so much. The DP saga isn't the same without it.

It's kinda a hard question to answer, just because of the few that do change drastically. Really, they are the same pokemon. Like once Charizard started to obey it was the old pokemon it used to be. Same with Mamoswine really. It just kinda got its hormones going. Any guy is not the same as they were when they were 5. Hormones kicked in and their mind got fogged with thoughts of girls and all that fun stuff. Ash's Charizard upon evolving into Charmeleon had that. It was too busy thinking about pretty girl Charmeleon with pretty bows that it couldn't listen to Ash.

Turtwig's personality didn't really change. It was just now big and slower and it had to cope with that.

Sometimes their personality changes but most of the time it seems to not change that much. Charizard is the best example of one that changed radically. Sceptile seems to have retained it's personality from when it was a Treeko

Also Snorunt/Glalie went through a dramatic change.

How so?

Anyway, I agree on Ash's Charmander evolving into Charmeleon (it started to disobey Ash even after evolving into Charizard. And now it obeys Ash).

Also, Ash's Turtwig into Grotle (I don't see it forcefully resolving arguments anymore).

Not really. She was upset when she got sent to Oak during the Whirl Cup Competition. She only lost her crush at the end of Johto when she was no longer relevant.
To answer the question, no, I don't consider them to be different characters after evolution. But maybe that's just me.

It seems..Calmer and mature. It isn't as overly affectionate as before and isn't trying to be a leader.

Also, Charizard seemed more childish as a Charmander. It seemed more, well, like a rebellious teenager after it first evolved, even when it began listening to Ash.

It just seems that most of the time when a pokemon evolves a new dynamic is brought to the group and Ash's team than before. Similar to how when a new character is introduced the team interacts somewhat differently.

I kind of agree with the "growth" theory behind the evolutions.

Charmander disobeying Ash as a Charmeleon was most likely the same as a teenager beginning to be more rebellious to his/her parents.

For Chikorita, a little girl would probably have a good crush on some male who is way older than her, but as she further grows lose that crush completely.

I kind of think that all pre-evolved Pokemon, at least in the anime, are pretty much like "children", and their fully evolved forms more like "adults". As regular people grow, their knowledge and mannerisms change. It might be similar with the "growth" of Pokemon.
