I want to prove something to my brother. He thinks the new Pokemon (recent seasons, etc.) is better than the old Pokemon (Kanto and such).

So when was Pokemon best and why? :naughty:

If this is in the wrong forum or something, please move it. I'm new here. :p

1999-2002. It's been ups and downs since then, but not really the same.

The first episode. Mostly because Ash reminded me of Tajiri-san for a while there before losing that personality. :(

Personally I think the first, third, and fourth seasons were the best (Kanto, Sinnoh, and Unova) from what I've seen, at least.

The show is mostly the same throughout its entire run.

Each saga has plenty of good and crappy episodes.

My personal favorite is AG, but with my likes aside, the Sinnoh saga was without a doubt the best time in the Anime.

AG and up really. That's when the Pokemon universe started to make more sense. Goals where better explained. More important characters started to appear. And Ash started to prove himself as an excellent trainer.

I hate how people like to think the OS is best. Viewing the Pokemon world through the Gen 1 (151 Pokemon) perspective, it doesn't make much sense. How can a world rely on such a small variety of creatures? What of the rest of the world? >_>

Back in Kanto it honestly felt like that was the entire world at the time. There were no indication any other regions existed, (at least until Togepi and Marill debuted later on).

Ho-oh could have just been a mysterious 152nd pokemon.

Pokemon was at it's best whenever you started watching it. It's mostly the same from beginning to the end.

Personally i really liked the Hoenn series specifically because of the charaters. but i got to agree the sinnoh is the best complete season so far and unova is set to surpass it. So new series definetely better then the old in fact older series get pretty much unwatchable for me when the new series comes out because of the difference. the exception being hoenn and on ward so far.

Which would had been boring and not make much sense had the franchise not decided to expand. I'm just speaking while looking at the POV of those Kanto "purists".

Why settle for a world with no growth and diversity, just solid staleness, is beyond me.

That's why I actually prefer Pokemon from the AG era and up. Despite being a fan since the franchise came to the America.

Even if it was only 151, I don't think it would have exactly been small if there was many of the same species around. Even if the total number of individual Pokémon seems too small, it's not like the world would be completely empty and void of any other life. And even if there were more generations out there like Ho-Oh they could be ones that you wouldn't have to see and could remain a mystery if they didn't make an appearance of any kind. That's going by the logic of 151 being a list of Pokémon known to exist by people in Kanto, when many others could exist and you would never need to learn about them if the anime didn't require you to.

I was never against bringing in a couple new generations, but I guess my argument is that even without them the Kanto series could probably still work by itself. And I actually consider Kanto, Orange Islands, and Johto to all be part of the Original Series since they were in Japan, so I guess you could say I support 2nd generation as well.

It's never been Shakespeare. But it has for the most part been entertaining.

Given the choice I'm afraid I'm going to have to side with your brother and say I prefer the later seasons. Nicer animation for a start.

Except for Johto, Pokemon has been getting better and better. But AG is my favourite even though I agree the writing is better in the seasons after it.
