When do you think our view of Satoshi's journey will come to an end? Just wondering.

I originally thought Ash's journey might conclude with Sinnoh, considering how the Elite 4 have been properly showcased in the anime for the first time since *ever* and that Cynthia, the champion, is being showcased.

There's the theory that Ash will battle Paul in the championship match of the Sinnoh league, win first place...and then go on to challenge the Elite 4 + Cynthia in a little mini-arc after Sinnoh (it would essentially be the Battle Frontier type series for D/P), and have Ash possibly beat Cynthia using all his strongest Pokemon.

But then reality hit me.

I realized that as realistic as this scenario could be...its far more likely for Ash to lose against Cynthia and for the writers to simply have Ash return to Pallet yet again as he prepares for his next journey. Ash and Pikachu are too marketable and will never be dropped.

You know how Simpsons is about to start its 19th season in the U.S? Well...that's how Pokemon will be. It'll be Ash + 5th gen girl + whoever else in the region of Gen 5. Yep.

The formula of the Pokemon games is eternally re-usable. The only thing that limits it is the designers' imagination (for creating new Pokemon) and will to continue. And as long as there are games out, the anime will always have its raison d'etre, as an advertisement.

I really don't know when it's going to end, but I'm assuming when Japanese veiwers lose interest in the show. But then again, it would seem that as long as they made games, they'd make an anime.

I agree.

I don't think Pokemon will be ending until a long time from now. ^^

And, it helps that the writers can easily recycle the show's main storyline for as long as they want. This way, they can increase the length of the show for many years the come.

Of course, that's just the way I like it. As long as they continue making the games, they'll continue making the show. And I'm gonna continue watching Pokemon until I see the end of Ash's story. I know we're in for a long ride here, but I don't care how many more years or seasons it's gonna take. I'm excited to see how the writers will make this storyline pan out!!

Even if the plot is repetitive, there is a new generation of kids every few years who have never seen the show, so it won't be repetitive to them. Plus, both hardcore and casual fans will continue to watch the show, no matter how different they sugarcoat it every time - different situations and Pokemon.

i think the show will last as long as the games, assuming ratings are as high as they are now...

but im almost certain that the series will end in the united states LONG before it will in japan.

then again, the series lasted through johto (i dont know if this is statistically correct, but i personally think the show will be here for a while because johto was garbage, and the show survived that, and i think ratings and overall popularity has increased.

It will never really end. It's going to be simply "gone from schedule" because it won't be so profittable after thousands of boring episodes.

To second Kasumi, it won't end until the franchise stops making money. Case closed.

Honestly now, until we see obvious signs that the Pokemon series(games, anime, or otherwise) is in trouble, I see no reason to worry about when it'll end. I know that we have to baselessly speculate about SOMETHING, but can't it be about something less irritating, like whether Ash will get Chimchar even though Paul obviously shows no signs of giving it up any time soon? Or when Ash and Dawn will trade Buizel and Aipom since CLEARLY the Pokemon don't fit with their current trainers?

If we're talking about Ash's journey in particular(with the option of the anime continuing with a new main character)...I still don't see why his travels would be over any time in the forseeable future. Having a new main character would shake up the anime for the approximately one year that it'd take for their unique quirks to level out and for us to get over the novelty factor, for starters. And then we're stuck with most of the stories and characters that have been built up with Ash not being an option anymore(unless they throw them into the new character's story for the sake of CONTINUITY).

Not only that, but I seriously cannot see Ash triumphing over any of the E4(champ included) in this gen(and probably not the next one either). He's strong, but he's not elite strong. He might win the Shinou league, only to challenge the E4 and fail miserably, leading him to yet another region to spend several years in. He might not win the Shinou League at all, reminding us for the nth time that he's far from outclassing every other trainer in the world(not that we need to be reminded too much, seeing as he still a fair amount of times in each region).

I swear that most of the people who reply to these sorts of polls with a view that the anime/Ash's journey is going to end soon(not just here, mind you - this sort of thing pops up on SPPf fairly often too) secretly hate the anime and/or Ash. I can find no other reason as to why people seem so eager to assume that everything's going to end by the next gen or so.

*claps*

That was beautiful, Juputoru!

Secretly? What's there to be secret about? Many people (including myself) have made it clear that they want Satoshi's journey to end. In fact, even though a lot of people freaked out when the DP ads were released, there were about just as many who actually seemed thankful we could see a totally new story.

I know to some people that makes no sense. The whole "why start a new character? It'll just be the same crap over and over" but not entirely. A new character would be given a new background, attitude, everything. It would allow areas to be discovered that never could be.

Mind you I'm not trying to turn this into an anti-Satoshi thread, I just had to say, there is a reason people are so eager for Satoshi's story to end.

I do hate Ash and I don't do it secretly... Sue me!

I agree. But Ash has been here so long now that he's as much a mascot of the franchise as Pikachu is. You can't get rid of an icon like that. It would be like the Mario franchise getting rid of Mario and making Luigi the star, (which I would love...Luigi rocks! :p ).

Which is exactly why the only changes made to the group are the sidekicks. Every single character Ash has traveled with has left the show at some point, (remember, Brock wasn't here during Orange), and Dawn will probably only be here for the duration of D/P, so none of the other characters are permanent.

You can get rid of sidekicks like Misty, Brock, Max and Tracey since they're not as important to the franchise in general....and May/Dawn are only introduced to be the main leads during their respective gens...so in a way, everyone is unimportant except Ash/Pikachu. I also suspect TR stays around because the writers wouldn't know how to write the series without them.

Touche, Scott85. I mean, Ash is the whole lifeblood to the series. If Ash goes, a riot will certainly ensue. Plus, we haven't learn all of Ash's secrets, like who his father is or who is his destined soulmate. By the way, about that, have you checked out the latest post I put on the AS thread. I put like two up after you said Misty on D/P wasn't confirmed that stated where you could find it. Check it. (sorry for going off-topic. I just had to tell you)

I voted "other." I have a hard time considering whether the series will end after D&P or if we are in for another generation to come. Sometimes I think it all depends on whether Nintendo decides to do another generation, and it seems plausible because Pokemon is still "young" for a video game series. But, even if they do, the anime might not continue or something, but who knows. There's so much to consider in reality (like if the writers want to continue, the need to hold onto the seiyuu, etc.), but when I strictly think about the show and the characters, I still think Ash has a way to go, and needs another generation before he becomes a "Pokemon Master."

Bah~! I don't even know my own answer. I guess I just have a hard time imagining the series ending...

the anime is more than likely going to end in around three or four years... oh wait, is this Pocket Monsters Diamond/Pearl you're asking about? XD

Now that you mention that, how enthusiastic are the current Japanese VA about continuing the series? Ash, Brock and TR's voice actors have been voicing the same characters for 10 years, how much longer will they still be interested?

I've always wondered what might happen if Ash's VA decided to pursue different work or whatever, what exactly might happen with the series. Was that rumour about Gary leaving the show at the end of Johto because his VA quit ever confirmed, btw?

Well I don't remember seeing anything when the 10th movie was released, but do you remember when the 9th one was? The Japanese site had small interviews with the cast, and as usual they all seemed super happy to be working on pokemon. Something tells me it won't be for a long time until they lose interest.

If they did however, would it matter? I mean, this is their job Scott. It depresses fans when we hear people are only in it for the money, but that's life. Even if interest is lost, I somehow doubt any would drop out.

IMO, what fans should be more concerned with is their age. Pretty much the whole main cast is 40+ and God only knows what their life style is like. Just because Japan is given the reputation for being super healthy, it doesn't mean they don't start having problems with age as well.
