Decided to sign up to the forum since I'm on the main wiki.
Hello everyone! I'm TheFatPanda (that's what I go by practically everywhere online), a Pokemon fan from the UK.
What to talk about...
I first got into Pokemon back when in 1999 (aged 7) with the anime (the very first episode I saw was...I think "Clafairy and the Moon Stone"?), soon I was asking for the toys, the card game (the very first set I owned was the original 2-player starter deck from the old base set, with the shiny Machamp), and then finally, I got my Gameboy Colour (a turquoise-coloured one) with Pokemon Red.
It's sad to say that I was absolutely rubbish at playing Pokemon as a kid: for the first few weeks I had Red I didn't know how to save, I couldn't read very well so I had no clue how to access the battle menus and catch Pokemon, and I never actually completed the game myself. But it didn't change the fact that I loved playing it.
Not long after, I got Yellow, which I was equally as bad at. Then much later I got Silver version, much earlier than everyone else in fact as I was able to get an American copy, then later Crystal.
As time went on after getting Silver and a Crystal, my interest in the series, predictably, began to wein. I was still interested in the anime and the games, but not as much as I was: I stilled bought Ruby version on launch day and played it (never completed), got FireRed AND LeafGreen for my twelfth birthday (my interest had jolted up a tiny bit at that point: never completed) then Emerald (neeeever completed).
After that, my interest had dropped to the point where it was near nonexistent. I didn't take much notice when Diamond and Pearl came out, though I did eventually decide to pick up Diamond and give it a go, a go that didn't last all that long. Completely ignored Platinum. Then I got SoulSilver for nostalgia's sake, and I think you know by now where I was going with that...
I that point I just kind of realized that any attempt I'd make at playing a Pokemon game would just be thwarted by my OCD which was really bad throughout 2006-2009 (not being satisfied with the progress I made on my Pokemon team and starting a new game as a result). I was greatly interested in the anime again by that point though, but I never touched the games again because of my problems.
But then my OCD finally began to ease up. Looking for new things to keep me occupied, I looked over the games and was really amazed at how they where looking these days (we where well into Generation V by this point, it wasn't long after the release of B2/W2), so I decided maybe I was ready to give the games another go. I decided to get in on the ground floor of the current generation, picked up Black version and...I completed the main story in just under two weeks.
I was so proud of myself, not only was I able to get through a whole Pokemon game without resetting, but I actually managed to get past the Elite Four and complete the main story! Needless to say I was hungry for more, so after doing as much post-game as I could (never went back to the Elite Four to beat Alder actually, I knew he'd be ridiculously strong and levelling up my team to his level was taking way too long, I wanted to move on...) ...so I did. I went out and bought Black 2, and once again I got through the main story in no time.
I think this is one of the reasons why I actually consider Gen V to be my favourite Generation bar Gen I: as well as the compelling story, villains and overal setting.
During this time, X and Y where officially unveiled, so after beating Black 2 I did as much of the post-game stuff as I could, in anticipation for the new generation, until the day came when I got X version two days after my birthday.
And now I plan to get Alpha Sapphire when it's released.
And wow, that's a real TL;DR post up there ain't it, and I have so much more to talk about. But you've probably read enough walls of text for now xD
I'll just do a run down of everything else:
What franchises do you like besides Pokemon?: absolutely, positively Sonic the Hedgehog. I've been a devoted fan of the series even longer than Pokemon in fact. I got a bunch of the games , a near complete collection of the Archie Comics, etc. I also love the Kingdom Hearts series: I can't wait for KH3! Other favourite franchises I'm a little more casual toward: I also enjoy Digimon (*random guy goes "booooo"* ah shaddup), the Harry Potter series, The Simpsons, and other stuff I can't pick off the top of my head.
Favourite Pokemon?: Ursaring. I love bears, they are such big cutiepies, and Ursaring is equally as cute (how can you not love that big grumpy face?). Pangoro comes in at a close second: pandas are actually my favourite type of bear so you'de think Pangoro would take top spot, but alas, Ursaring came first :3
I have a lot of other much-loved Pokemon: I tend to gravitate toward the chubby ones. To name a few: Charizard, Dragonite, Snorlax, the Slowbro family, the Tepig family (especially Emboar), Chestnaught, and more.
