Where can I physically go meet other Pokemon players?

Is there any place that Pokemon players physically gather to do Pokemon-related stuff?

I know that Wi-fi exists to eliminate the need to physically meet other players. However, it has its disadvantages. For example, you can't play the Underground on wi-fi, you run the risk of glitching your Pokemon or game when trading, and chances are, you won't be able to make actual friends to trust later to do tradebacks.

My cousin did own a Nintendo DS with Pokemon Pearl, but broke it in frustration. Even when it was intact, he was still never reliable enough to bring it to family gatherings. I found someone at my school who plays one of the DS games, but he's a bit hard to get a hold of. Even if I could become friends with him more quickly, one can't expect to meet other Pokemon players by just going on with his life.

So, is there any kind of physical place where Pokemon players can meet one another?

Try a convention. Or a local Pokemon TCG league. Most of the card game players (from my experience) have their DS ready for a pickup battle between card matches.

Thanks, Neku!

Though, does anyone know of any such conventions taking place on Suffolk County, Long Island? I already looked for TCG Leagues on a locator site, and only 11 results came up under New York, none of which are on Long Island.

Oh, and in case you'd like to know which site I used, here's the link:

I didn't find any such site for other conventions.

^ Hey, I live there too! Unfortunately though, I also don't know of any good ways of meeting up with other Pokemon fans. I checked out the link, and yeah, ouch. I'm surprised there's nothing going on in NYC. Perhaps Staten Island could be feasible?

Do you attend I-con? I don't know of anything specifically Pokemon-related going on there, but if you like going anyway, you could look into it. In any event, it shouldn't be too hard to find other Nintendo fans. I'm not sure if I'm going this year though.

I've heard of Nintendo World holding tournaments, but since I don't play TCG, I don't know much about it. I wouldn't be surprised if they're having an event on Platinum's release date on March 22 (it's a Sunday). They usually keep pretty quiet about those things though... I'll get e-mails from them letting me know a few days before a game's release that they're having an event for it. I was only ever there for one of them, and it was a coincidence. They're usually from around noon til 4 pm. I'm probably going to leave that Sunday open to the chance that there is some sort of event... I mean, they had one for Mystery Dungeon 2. They're also advertising Platinum on their site and I saw little signs for it the last time I was there.

Sorry if this ends up not being all that helpful... I'm kind of in the same boat as you are.

Wow i cant believe this! Ive got 3 friends at school that play pokemon! Im really surprised that some people are having trouble with physical fans. I wouldnt know but theres about 1 nintendo event a year in australia but if you can go to a event somewhere in your area you may find some people ^_^ But be aware to stick away from the guys/girls who think there better than you (most of the time they arent anyway)

Good Luck
