Where can I post about a fan game I am making in RPG Maker? Is this allowed?
In the Media Menagerie? I'm not sure.

I'd say entertainment because it mentions videogames. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You could talk about it maybe if its not a ROM edit, also called a ROM hack...But if you want to talk about a fan made game(a video game made by hand from the fans)then you can like me since I want to change the battle system that is used in most Pokemon main games...So

I would try if I were you,to "spread out" what you have done on it because some people make take it as a ROM hack instead of a fan made game....Like put the story of your fan made game in "The Writers Workshop" forums and talk about your fan made game in what the guy above said and if you want people to know...make a blog about it so people will know what it is...Hope that helps and good luck!

It's not a Rom Hack. It's made with RPG Maker XP, which is a completely legit software for making your own RPG : Website

I want to make a post about my game, asking people to play it, because I need feedback. I already have a nice post written, with story and explanations etc. I'm just wondering what section this fits into.

I actually wondered this when I first joined as well. Unfortunately, fangame discussion and development progress is not allowed on these forums due to copyright concerns, in the same vain as rom hacks.

I've always disliked how this rule is stated, as it's very fuzzy. I'll bring it up with the rule committee in an effort to have a clearly defined rule about what's allowed and what's not allowed (for example, I'm not sure if you'd be allowed to link to, say, a development blog using your signature).

...Also ask them to define fan game and fan made game in the rules as meaning two different ways like:A fan game is a ROM edit/hack and a Fan made game is a game that is made by the fans by hand without hacking a ROM other wise...

That's too bad. I don't see how it's any more of a copyright concern than fanart or sprites. :(

I thought there were only these kind of problems when someone is making money off something copywrite excluding ads?

The rule in question is actually being worked on already. In the meantime, I'll just quote what one of the Rule Committee members said to me in regards to the matter:

Making an actual Pokémon game that you could play is massive no-no from what I know of Archaic's position on the matter.

I'm not the biggest expert on how TCPi views stuff like this, but considering that Archaic wants to remain on their good side leads me to believe that there are issues revolving around it.

The way I see it is that Pokemon's general idea, hundreds of varied monsters that serve masters and fight battles, is a very generic idea which is easy to rip off. TCPi, being the owner of the most popular of these types of franchises, is understandably protective of their IP. While they don't actively pursue every infringing piece of fan work, it's in their best interests to keep "damages" to the franchise as low as possible. Something a fan creates could go completely contrary to the idea behind Pokemon, gather a lot of fan support, and then they've got a mess on their hands.

My best guess is that Archaic just doesn't want Bulbagarden involved in such a mess. I disagree, but he calls the shots, and if I really wanted to discuss this stuff in depth, there are other Pokemon communities out there that allow it.

I agree with you on that one...He just dosen't want Bulbapedia to be look as(bad)in the eyes of the company....

The best I figured you can do in this case without the company forceing you to pay the US national debt in one shot @Sapphire Luna,is if you have a story that goes with your fan made game and its does not relate to the main Pokemon games by much, you can post the story of it on the forums like what I have done here http://bmgf.bulbagarden.net/f227/po...tion-fan-game-beta-fanfic-124225/#post3722914 ....notice that my story has very little relation to the Pokemon games...in this case,The Pokemon Company would not care about what I have done...This is known as "Fair Use" in this case and your only defence you have if the company says you have infriendged their stuff and tryed to sue you...

But for the safe side, keep the game to your self unlike me...
