I can understand "Silver" and "Kris" (the English box for Crystal refers to her as such but still the canon of that name is debatable) but "Gold"? This isn't a name debate thread but...

Where did it come from? I remember people saying it came from the English booklet for Gold? In Silver isn't he called "Silver"? Their were no in-data names for the characters back then so..What did the Crystal booklet say?

i always thought it was his hat. plus gold is the first name on the "What is your name?" list

If you understand Silver and Kris, why don't you understand Gold? GOLD AND SILVER AND KRISTAL?

The hero generally is given the game name of the dominant version. ie. Red, Gold, Ruby, and Diamond. These names of course obviously have changed, except for in the Special and with Red in all cases. But yeah, Gold is the name given to the hero of Pokemon GOLD and silver.

Also, yes, the backstory in the game manual did call him Gold.

If NoA EVER changes Red's name, I will personally end them.

I find it funny that they named the female protagonist of FRLG "Leaf", while they kept Red's name instead of changing it to "Fire". xP

In the Silver Version booklet too?

(Speaking of Silver, is that the name of the rival in Hg/Ss that is in-game data?)

Augh, I remember having this discussion a few months back. I think it rotated...

And in HGSS it is Heart or Soul, depending on the version.

Technically speaking, the female protagonist from FR/LG doesn't have an official name. "Leaf" comes from internal data within FR/LG that was presumably there as a dummied-out opponent Trainer. Neither Nintendo or GameFreak actually acknowledge it as her official name.

Actually, the only official names are (in English) Red, Blue, Brendan, May, Lucas, Dawn.

Silver has no name and Kris was used to describe her everytime they named her..Though I don't agree that her name is "Crystal".

Wasn't there something else ingame that referred to her as "Leaf"?

Not that I recall, no. I've played through LG as both male and female protagonists, but I haven't seen anything that officially names her as Leaf.
