where oh where is Happiny?

hi all,

so I have 209/210 Pokes in the Sinnoh Dex.

I just need to spot a Happiny to get to 210.

I read that they are supposed to be in the Trophy Garden but I've been wondering around there for hours and can't spot one!!

is there any trick to it or special time of day that works best?!

PS - what special options does the Nat'l Dex unlock?
 
There's a Hiker in Hearthome who will just give you a Happiny egg if you talk to him.
 
Happiny is in the Trophy Garden, but only on certain days. Talk to Mr. Backlot to see which Pokemon is there today.
 
Here's a trick, and it's hard, but effective.

Have the whole backlot happiny thing happen. Save your game before talking to mr. backlot and reset until he says he saw a happiny.

Then, use a combo of repel and a lvl 18 pokemon to explore the garden. All you will find are pikachu and happiny.

It takes a little work but it does pan out.

There are some Lv. ~24ish Staravias in the Trophy Garden in Platinum.
 
Do you have a Chansey and a Lucky Insence?
 
okay, so Pikachu, Staravia, and daily pokemon. Whatever.
 
You can either obtain it as a Happiny egg from the man in Hearthome City, use a Luck Incense on a Chansey and breed, utilize the Trophy Garden method for Happiny, or find a trainer in the game that will use a Happiny and battle them.
 
yea, there was a trainer with Happiny that I missed the first time through!!

Doesn't the trophy garden pokemon of the day only happen after you get the national dex anyway?

I looked on Bulbapedia and all I saw was the garden thing but it wasn't working... plus I was confused by what it meant when it said "backlot" or whatever underneath the location. plus it was listed under "special" time.

I'm sorry if I wasted your time.... but you probably wasted about 30x more by replying to this thread critically - so... there's that.

I just can't understand why some folks on message boards gripe about "simple" questions.... I looked on Bulbapedia, I certainly didn't see anyone else asking about it on the first, second or third page of this forum - so I asked.

what more, pray tell, did you want me to do before posting?

*catches breath*

ps - much love to the 99% of this forum which has no problem fielding "simple" questions.

pps - I'd like to start a thread asking about the new options that the Nat'l Dex allows me in Platinum (since no one in this thread addressed that part of my post). ideally people would post a few answers, I'd be able to streamline my gameplay and then the thread sinks like a stone to the bottom of the forum.
but, since I like to be an honorable fellow, I'm not going to make this post for fear that the 1% of this forum will start to think I am doing this community a disservice.

is that better?
