This is a discussion about where you were when news came through that the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. It's up there with "Where were you when 9/11 happened?" or "Where were you when Princess Diana died?" or even "Where were you when the Soviet Union collapsed?". It happened just a few hours ago, and I decided to create a more like a time capsule thread asking each member where they were when it happened.

For me, I was hosting a show on student radio. And I was covering the Brexit, which was the biggest news of the day (and even though it was a major event, it wasn't covered by A Current Affair).

NOTE: If this is better in "The World Beyond" section, please move it. Thank you in advance.

In my bed,

I voted to remain, as did every part of Scotland. So now we're pretty much guaranteed to get another independence referendum since we've basically been pulled out of the EU whilst voting to remain. Not surprised England voted us out, England as a whole is more right leaning than Scotland.

Indy ref by 2018.

I was at work at my architectural office near East Melbourne. All my colleagues were looking up on Google and the Guardian.

Getting some much needed sleep, heard the news when I woke up.

I was at home either playing my 3ds in bed or sleeping, and heard the news when I woke up.

At home, I was watching TV/browsing the Internet then went to bed. Only checked the actual news about it the next day when the result would be final.

I was at home, and voted Leave. Happy with the outcome, I also respect the people who voted Remain, but I wish more younger people could grasp the concept that in the long term and for the future of our stability, it is much needed that we finally break free especially now. Unfortunately their was a lack of concern for the foundations of which Britain was created on - and no it's not because the people who voted leave are racist - it is because we were in a situation where anyone could come in regardless of any circumstance (I'm talking criminal records, no job prospects ect), which in turn does nothing great for the economy, people were/are simply taking out and not putting IN. There were many occasions where Britons wanted to move to Bulgaria, Germany for example, and were told they couldn't receive the same beneficiaries they were promised (i.e child benefits ect) from their internal governments, whereas if you came to Britain from those countries, you could receive those beneficiaries even if you had one member of their family come over, and send entire beneficiaries BACK to their countries! In turn, taking money out of Britain's economy was and is a dangerous thing. People forget how much we gave gave and gave to the EU, only to receive nothing back not even in terms of general respect for which it was supposedly created on. It's better we left now, than if we were to let it continue the way it was going. It's a more hopeful future to know we can hold our own like we did before WW2 (which is why the Union was created), than to stay in something already suffering with no real idea of how our country will hold up in the next twenty or thirty years.

I think we should all stay positive and look to the future :D

Same place I am right now: on my bed, at my laptop, watching the proceedings with horror.

Asleep. I went against the local crowd and even my own dad with my Remain vote. I'm now very concerned for my future but looking at the initial aftermath I can at least take solace in the fact that I was right to not trust the pair of losers backing the Leave camp.

tweeting about it from when the results started coming in around midnight to when the results were fully announced the following morning. too young to vote, but if I had the chance I would've voted remain... saddening news, but now all we can do is look to the future and hope it works out.

Either:

Watching comedy at like 2:30 AM
or
Sleeping
or
Washing my face

I'm not sure what to think, all I know is that the countries England left turned very mean very quickly xD Suggests they were barely close allies in the first place
