Whew - Rita weakening a bit

Though she's still a nasty one, Rita seems to be swinging back down toward more reasonable power level. She's expected to hit as a category 3 hurricane at this point, maybe a lower-end category 4, but one thing is for sure, she won't be as nasty at landfall as Katrina.

On the other hand, she's movign slowly and with lots of rain. Seeing how much damage Tropical Storm Arlene did to Houston a few years back - and that was a storm, not a hurricane - and how little rain it'd take to re-wreck NOLA, both of which are within striking distance...

Well, yeah. Doesn't smell too good still.
 
9th Ward levee breached again.

The downgrade isn't doing much when rain and storm surge is the biggest problem.
 
Good news for me too. They have the stall point for the storm southeast of here instead of right over us. Although things might change (as they're wont to do with the weather), Oklahoma might actually survive. Although I actually do feel bad for the people in Louisiana and Texas...and Arkansas if it stalls there.
