Mine would be the Advanced Generation series since it renewed my love for Pokemon.

In 2002, I lost interest in the franchise, ever since I got my PS2. I still liked Pokemon, just got out of it for a while.

After I played Sapphire, and watched the AG episodes in 2004, I rediscovered why I was a big fan of Pokemon and became a Pokemon fan once more. To this day, I'm still a Pokemon fan and will be for the years to come.

The original series!
1.Misty
2.Pokémon was new
3.It actually made sense
4.Had some of the greatest BGM of all time
5.It started in the 90's
6.It was not "Digitally" drawn
7.Did I Say Misty?

Origional series, Kanto and Johto.
I remember getting up everyday at 5 to see those and watching them until 10 at night. Never saw the Orange Islands though. :(

I like Misty as much as the next person, but it's posts like that that cause other people to become annoyed by her. And we don't want any more Misty haters, now do we?

Yea we don't, But it would be nice if could have a nice talk about her without any one going on a tangent or something like that.

I like Diamond and Pearl the best because I have the most knowledge about that series and I really became fond of the series characters

yeah, that would be nice. Too bad such a thing seems almost impossible ( a member of the original cast should not recieve so much hate!).

Let us compare...

Original series
This is the original, the classic episodes. The episodes that made the anime famous in the first place. Who cannot forget all of those Kanto episodes? I do admit that the LARGE amount of Johto fillers really ruined the series. On occassion, some of the fillers, mostly character centric, are good.
While we did not have a female protagonist who had some contest quest, we did have Misty (water pokemon specialist). Her dream as such is not so dynamic that the majority of the series focuses on it, but it isn't something as invisible as, say, Brock's dream of breeding pokemon. This is where most of the comedy in the series kicked in (before it became overused gags of little taste). Brock's love gags and Team Rocket's motto originated here. Although the majority of episodes followed the same formula, there were occassionally episodes that were entertaining and fulfilling.

Advanced Generation
Here is where the series changed dramatically. Most fans, myself included, hated the idea that Misty were to be replaced by May. This is also where Ash decides to get rid of his older pokemon completely (Pikachu aside). Basically starting everything refreshed. Meanwhile, there is an introduction on pokemon contests.
To tell the truth, I really did not like the majority of the contest episodes (mostly because of those COTDS I could CARE less of). On stark contrast, May's contest rivals (Drew/Harley) were the best rivals up to this point. This kinda makes up for the fact that Ash had no REAL rival in this series (if one were to include that fatass who was only there for 10 out of 190 episodes). There are a lot of fillers in this arc as well. This was the point of the series where I started to get sick of the anime. Even the plot centric episodes (gym battles included) were meh.

Diamond & Pearl
This is also somewhat of a refreshing, but to a lesser degree than AG. We still have Ash (who has also gave up all pokemon but Pikachu but Aipom followed along), Pikachu, Brock, and a female playable character who has an interest in contests.
This series tends to be more character and story-focused than either the original series and Advanced Generation. In this series, we are introduced to four rivals- Paul (Ash's main rival in DP and best rival yet), Barry (he was introduced fairly late in the series, I do not count him as a rival in the true sense), Zoey (she is as interesting as a wet paper napkin especially with Drew), and Kenny (even worse than Zoey).
I love both of the main leads' teams better than in AG. Ash has better pokemon than those "wild cards" he gathered up in AG. Dawn has pokemon with a lot of personality (Piplup much), unlike May who basically copied off Ash's pre-AG team for the majority of the series.
While the gym battles were better than AG, the contests were a lot more pitiful in comparison. There were also a lot more "back to basic" episodes, basically taking ideas from the original series and incorperating them. Namely, Dustox farewell, Pikachu/Raichu, and TR. While this is a very slow series (compared to AG), the 'fillers' they tend to produce are mostly good in nature. Not those random Johto/Hoenn fillers.

So, if I were to rate it, I would put Diamond & Pearl slightly better than the original series. This is only because the original series incorperating so many of these Johto-pokemon episode fillers (because there were no contests yet). Not only does DP appeal to newer pokemon fans but also those who have watched the entire anime's run. Also, on another note, Paul is a much better rival than Gary ever was. The only real compliant that I have with DP, aside from Dawn's contests/rivals, would be Brock. He hardly does anything in the series anymore; it makes me feel that his only shining moment in each episode is the 20-second love gags with Croagunk.

I am going with the original series, but mainly for the first two seasons. This is not, as many people like to accuse, simply because of nostalgia.

DP:
Dawn :)
Piplup (I love penguins)
sort of a action style like in DP Movie 1
Higher quality animation
And a few more stuff.
I like Misty as much as the next person, but it's posts like that that cause other people to become annoyed by her. And we don't want any more Misty haters, now do we?
When I say I don't like misty, I mean I wouldn't prefer her. I don't dislike her or like her, I just don't prefer her. She's cool though.

Probably AG since it renewed my intrest in the series, a lot of character devolpment, less fillers, lots of evolutions and some of my favorite moments. The half of the original series was johto witch was really meh. I hate the way DP is going because of little blue penguin and to many fillers if you're going to count character devolpment as a filler that pretty much includes all of AG.

Although I do think I should give credit to the original series but Ash acted to cocky and now it seems pretty out of character.

The original series was the best. I also, don't get why people hate Johto so much. Sure you had a lot of needless filler but Johto had some great moments and probably the best League Final in the Silver Conference. My problem with AG and DP is that by this point Pokemon has become too formulaic and cyclical that it has really lost all its appeal. I think the majority of fans who have watched the series from its onset can agree with me. However, I'm sure that newer viewers can like DP because pokemon is still fresh to them but if they knew that they have been basically doing the same thing for nearly 600 episodes they would dislike it too. On another note, I think what contributed to the staleness of the anime was the fact that the character dynamic and humor has regressed considerably. Whether you like it or not, Misty's personality was better for the group dynamic than Dawn or May's.

Boron pretty much said everything I thought of.

The original series will always have a special place in my heart. Like many other fans, I remember waking up on those Saturday mornings just to catch the newest episodes. All of the episodes back then to me were super-duper awesome. But after re-watching them, they're so ridiculous, it's hilarious XD

I watched all of Johto, but it's like a blank hole in my mind, I hardly remember any of it. Same with Hoenn (They just had so many uninteresting fillers)

DP has better, more accurate and interesting battles and fillers that don't bore you to death. The contests don't even come close to Hoenn though *disappointment*

But Paul makes up for it, so it's all good.

So all in all, by a small margin DP is my fave. Then the original, then AG.

Why do people hate Hoenn?
I don't hate Hoenn, I just tolerate it.
It had a tropical climate and I don't like tropical climates.
It broke the trend a little.
This is my opinion.

Kanto/Orange is when the show was the most fresh, but I do not include "Johto" with the original series, even though it continued from it.

The classic era of Pokemon ends with Orange Islands. The show would have been better overall if we pretend Johto never happened. Or if we must, condense it to the 60 eps of Johto that were good and ignore the rest.

Time for some pro/con lists!

Original series
Pros:
-Great group dynamics
-Slapstick comedy
-Weird, random stuff happening more often
-Originality in the OI arc
-Several mini-arcs during the last year of Johto
Cons:
-A lack of direction in Kanto and OI for the most part... they were just kinda cruisin' the latter and somebody try and tell me where they were between Koga and Blaine.
-Long stretches of filler in both Kanto and Johto
-Aside from one battle each in Kanto and OI, the battles sucked until Johto
-Lack of development for most of the main characters' Pokémon
-Misty and Brock not doing much

Advanced Generation
Pros:
-Best group dynamics of any of the twerps' line-ups
-Introduction to Contests
-Vast imporvement and focus on battling
-May's rivalries and storylines
-Treating Pokémon like characters, not just battle objects
Cons:
-DEM victories continue
-Having to split "extra time" focus on both Brock and Max

Diamond & Pearl
Pros:
-More arc-based
-Better continuity than ever before
-Many recurring characters
-Ash's rivalries and storylines
-More Team Rocket focus
-Continually better-managed battles (continually improving animation helps)
-Continuing to focus on Pokémon as characters
Cons:
-Dawn's rivalries and Contests
-Poor interaction between the twerps
-C'mon, Brock, do more!

So I'd probably say each series is better than the last from my point of view.

Can someone explain why Johto is included with the "original series?"

Johto is absolutely NOTHING like Kanto and Orange Islands. It deserves a separate option on the poll.
