I saw something like this on Serebii and I think it was interesting so I want to ask here. Which of Ashs pokemons do you consider to be powehouses and why? And how does a pokemon become a powerhouse?

I'd say most of his original Pokemon. Charizard would definitely be one of them because he's so well trained. Another one of his strong powerhouses would be Sceptile and Infernape!

Kanto:
Eveyone except Muk
Johto:
Heracross?
Hoenn:
Sceptile
Sinnoh:
Infernape
Staraptor
Unova:
Krookodile
Leavanny

Pikachu
Charizard
Snorlax
Heracross
Sceptile
Infernape
Krookodile
Leavanny

I don't really think "all of his original" are powerhouses. Not at all.

I would say that Pikachu qualifies for being a powerhouse even if he gets resets sometimes. He has many impressive wins/battles and was Ashs first pokemon. Charizard is at the top too. He was trained at the Charific Valley for ages and went through many hard battles and won. Snorlax is a powerhouse too. It endures almost anything and destroys almost anything too. If I remember correctly, it brought half of Harrisons team down at Jhoto League.
Then I think that Sceptail is a powerhouse. It brought down a Darkrai and tied with Mays Blaziken. It has speed and power. And I know that many people will not agree with me here but I think that Corphish is a powerhouse too. It won against Flannerys Torkoal, Brawlys Machop, Dominics Swalot, Juans Luvdisc and others.
Infernape is also a powerhouse. Watch the Ash vs Paul at the league battle for more information.
In Unova I would say Pignite. He got more battles and wins than others. He did for example defeat Hydregion.

The only Pokemon I would class as powerhouses are the ones who could go up against any opponent and I would feel confident that they would either win or at least put up a decent fight. For me only these meet that criteria.

Charizard
Snorlax
Heracross
Sceptile
Infernape
Krookodile

These ones are close to being powerhouses but lack the consistency or power or victories the above have.

Pikachu - sometimes he's amazing and other times he's beaten so easily you question whether it's the same Pokemon that won all those amazing battles

Bulbasaur - could be but just needs more recent battles and a bit more power

Donphan - almost, was poor in his last performance. Need to see more

Glalie - Just needs more battles and a slightly better move set

Swellow - I really want to call Swellow a powerhouse but he was beaten way too easily against Latios and needs a stronger move set. He's so close though. Strongest and most resilient of the bird bunch in my opinion

Gliscor - He was really impressive against Paul. Just need to see more of him to call him a powerhouse

Torterra - could easily be a powerhouse with a few more victories. Has a great move set. Just needs to win something really.

Pignite - Became really consistent but lacks a diverse move set and would need a few more victories. Not far off though

Leavanny - another that needs to be seen more of. Even though he lost his last battle he put up a fantastic fight. Replace razor leaf with either hyper beam or leaf storm and utilise the swallowing energy ball trick and he could be a powerhouse

I have high hopes for Froakie, Fletchling and Hawlucha
