We've had Ash/Pikachu, May/Combusken, Dawn/Piplup, Iris/Axew.

We also learned back in AG that Brock's starter was his Onix/Steelix. We can also assume Cilan's starter is his Pansage. We also learned Jessie's first Pokemon was Ekans. With James its hard to tell, as flashbacks to his youth showed her had various pokemon before age 10.

Anyway, which characters do you think had the best interactions with their starter pokemon? Who had the least memorable?

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Ash saving Pikachu in the first episode. That one was really powerful. I, personally, was shocked by how hard Ash tried to protect Pikachu.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Shoudn't starters be the beginning Pokemon you get in the games, and "first Pokemon" be the first Pokemon they get (like for Brock/Misty/Tracey/Iris/Dento)

Ash has the best. I mean he's been saving Pikachu a lot XDD ._. I think Piplup was closer to Dawn in some ways than Dawn was closer to Piplup....

The worst? Ummmm.....well I don't know. Brock and Onix you have to let slip by. I mean the thing is HUGE. May seemed closer to Beautifly until Torchic evolved. Misty and Tracey o.o I'm not sure who their first Pokemon were. Iris is pretty close to Axew and Dento's Pansage is a chibi of him.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Axew is not Iris' starter pokemon. So:

Best: Hikari's Pochama and Satoshi's Pikachu, c. 50/50. But Pikachu gets more attention, thanks to his popularity and mascot status.

Least: Haruka's Chicken...

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Ash and Pikachu had the best interaction. The key word is 'had'.

The least? Brock. When did he ever interact with Onix?

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Onix doesn't seem like the kind of pokemon you want to be buddy buddy with and snuggle and hug. So I think brock treated it the way it should be treated. Ash and Pikachu have I think the best poke/trainer relationship I have ever seen. There is a true bond that you see time and time again, whether its the very first episode, the one where Ash almost "released" it, or that touching embrace after pikachu beat hitmonlee in the first hoenn league match.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

What do you mean by that?

It means that Ash and Pikachu are no longer the intersting characters, Pikachu moreso than Ash. It used to be Ash's opposite in many ways. Now its just an extension of his own personality.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

THe best is pretty dang obvious.

The worst is may and torchic. I swear it seemed like she didn't even knew it was alive until it evolved.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Ash and Pikachu {I disagree with some of the people here, I feel they still have it}

Dawn and Pipulp would be second I guess.

Least: May and the Chick {They hardly interacted and than it randomly evolved.}

Yah, what were Misty's and Tracey's first Pokemon??

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Best: Ash and Pikachu - They're literally inseparable.

Worst: Iris and Excadrill - They've been on bad terms for quite a while, but it seems their relationship has turned around, so we'll have to wait and see.
In the mean time, May and Blaziken - As a Torchic, she didn't do anything with it. The poor thing even got an episode where it felt unloved.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

I won't count in Ash in this, as he's pretty obvious.

Then.... I'm not too sure. :/
Dawn and Piplup, pfft! I feel the same way as 00poke_maniac mentioned, so they are pretty much ''meh'' to me.

Even if I love May, I really have to say that the interactions between her and Torchic was.... well, were there even any interactions? Sorry May, but nah.

Then there's Iris and Axew, I know that Axew isn't her starter, but I'll count him as a her starter now (it was after all Axew that we saw first). The both of them truly care for each other, and I'm not saying that any previous couple care for each other, I'm just sayin' that it's extremely clearly when it comes to those two. Axew is always with Iris and isn't, just like Pikachu, in a pokéball at all. So Iris and Axew are the second best, IMO.

Cilan and Pansage are like two peas in a pod, peanut butter and jelly, Ash and Pikachu, so yeah...
Third place. :p

And I can't comment on Misty, Brock or Tracey.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Everyone except Ash, Jessie and James had an emotionless relationship with their first. Except maybe May after Torchic evolved.

Piplup was foced down our throats. I find nothing memorable about it.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Well, Ash and Pika's relationship made me tear up and d'aww quite a few times, so I have to go with them.

But I will recognize Dawn/Piplup purely for this scene:

"Pochama?"

Least? Eh...Probably Torchic...less so than Brock with his Onix, honestly XD

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Satoshi's relationship with Pikachu is the best, they've been through a lot and are still together and have beat countless opponents and caught a types of cool Pokes together. They've both saved each other from certain death and protected each other, especially Ash who jumps in front of attacks.

Hikari and Pochama come in next, they both understand each others feelings a lot, and she brings out the best in Pochama, whether Pochama is trying to impress the ladies(Marill :p). Or do his best in battle. I felt real bad for Pochama when Hikari thought Fukamaru was cute when he kept hitting the poor thing with Dragon Meteor Down Pour, and crying. In the end I was pretty glad to see Pochama pull through and learn one of the most powerful Water Type attack every. Pochama is one of my favorite Pokemon. His little sparkly image of how he sees Hikari was cute and he did fight with her a few times. But, Pochama thinks Hikari is the best thing since sliced cheese.

I felt pretty bad for Achamo being shafted by Haruka for Agehunto, just because Agehunto was more beautiful and better for contest and stronger then Achamo I really did feel bad for it. Even before Haruka didn't want Achamo and then later she tried to rescue it from Team Rocket. She did care him though.

Iris and her Doryuuzu have a pretty checkered past. He was a bully and she trained hard to beat him and he watched as she trained. She finally beat him, and then saved him. They became friends and trained hard to become strong over the years, he and Iris earned 99 straight wins by this. But, then Iris and Doryuuzu battled the Dragon Master and lost, Iris didn't understand his feelings in battle the same way Pikachu and Satoshi do. So she just kept ordering him and pressuring him even though he knew he couldn't continue and then he was defeated and closed himself off. She tried to bring him out of his shell, but it didn't work. After all that bonding and soul searching Iris learned to understand him more and they're relationship was patched up.

She's pretty close to Kibago even though he isn't the starter. She saves him, and loves him a lot especially because he's a Dragon Type. The Dragon Master's Ononokus is where her Dragon obsession began. We see him and Obaba, Iris's village elder talking. It's possible Iris's Kibago is the offspring of the Dragon Master's Ononokus. We don't know exactly why she loves Dragon Types exactly and why she thinks there the greatest thing ever. But, it's obvious she cares for him a lot not like in a Haruka-Achamo or Hikari-Pochama way. There both pretty creeped out by Ice Type. Kibago brings her apples when shes sad, they even both tried to comfort Emonga. She even recognized Kibago crush on Emonga quickly.

Yanappu is pretty much Dento in Pokemon form. Both act similar and do similar things. Dento got mad over Ash and Iris dropping leaves in his soup and threw a fit the same way Yanappu was pissed and Solar Beam Chirrami. Those two are clean and cut. Which is weird for a monkey Pokemon like Yanappu, the prom and prim Dento and Yanappu are together a lot. Dento even went on and on on how his Yanappu is his "vintage" and smells great a newly mowed field. Yeah, there pretty close.

Oh yeah, that's right; I forgot that May wasn't a fan of Pokémon at first. I suppose that factors into why she and Torchic weren't exactly the best of friends when she started on her journey. She was mainly infatuated with Beautifly from witnessing it in that contest in Rustboro City, as well, and when she got one, she was giddy. It's like when a child gets a new toy and they start neglecting the ones they already have. That seems to be what happened with Torchic.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Its ironic because once it evolves, Combusken by far becomes her most used pokemon. Its in almost all her Contest episodes afterwards and in random eps otherwise.

May and Combusken definitely had a great bond, it was May and Torchic that did not.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Satoshi and Pikachu are just adorable, imo. Their relationship speaks for itself, there's nothing much to elaborate. The only thing I didn't like about it is that I felt their trust issue was solved too quickly. I'm not saying Pikachu needed to pull a Charizard, but at least a few episodes of Satoshi struggling to be a new trainer with a Pokemon that didn't like him until the Onisuzume incident. But as a whole, I enjoy their partnership. Maybe it is cliche, but I'm definitely going to have to say these two for the best interactions, even if they have been stale lately.

Hikari and Pochama...I know everyone complains that Pochama and Hikari were shoved down our throats, and sure they were, but I loved these two. They could be hilarious together (their silly arguments), but Pochama knew when it was important to do his best for her. Pochama was...in love with her or something. But I thought they were a good team.

As for Iris and Kibago, he's not her starter, but she treats him like one. We know that her main goal is to evolve him, so of course she is going to take very good care of him. I'm sure she remembers where things went sour with Doryuuzu and doesn't want to make the same mistakes again, especially now that she realizes her mistake. Again, I love these two together, they're adorable. And like it was mentioned, she caught Emonga for him! I can't wait to see what else is done with these two.

I always thought of Growly as Kojiro's "starter". Even if he is treated as a pet, it's obvious they care about each other very much, even in the few episodes we've seen of them together. When I was younger, I always wanted him to go back for it, haha.

Least memorable...Haruka and Achamo. I didn't see much of AG, but from what I've seen, their interactions weren't anything too memorable.

Re: Which character had the best/least memorable interaction with their starter Pokem

Haruka might not have had the best interactions with her starter, but her relationship with Atchamo --> Wakashamo --> Bashaamo is definitely the most monumental and metaphorical. Her starter grew just as much as she did; Atchamo's growth is very representative of exactly how far Haruka had gone since the beginning of AG :)

That's what I thought too. Achamo went from being a weakling cry baby starter. Weak in the newbie new caught Pokemon way, not the Zuruggu way. But, it defiantly went from being a crybaby to being strong and having great moves like Quick Attack and Ember. And later on it managed to take on Musashi's Arbok and beat it easy. Which felt surprising. But, yeah it did help catch Wurmple and showed how type advantages work. It helped be Grumpig too and Breloom, beat a Venasaur and beat Vibrava, and it stood up for itself against Corphish.
