As we know, Ash is the hero in virtually all the movies giving everyone else hardly a chance to do anything. Tracey did nothing in Movie 2, Brock was in the background in virtually all the movies except for battling Molly, Max did get the Jirachi subplot in movie 6, and Cilan didn't do that much in Movie 14.

However the 4 female protagonists did get somewhat a marginal role in the movies. I know this is unfair to Iris as she's only in one movie so far, but who do you think got the best role in a movie?
 
For me, it has to be May.

Dawn didn't have any major role. Misty played a prevelant part in Movie 2 by actually saving Ash's life, but May actually played a major part in the plot for Movie 9, being Manaphy's "mother" and getting a good amount of heartwarming and emotional scenes.
 
Only May had any significant role in any movie. And even with her, Ash stole the spotlight in the end.
 
^^ Movie 10 says hi. Dawn did go with Ash to the Alamos Town's tower and played the musical instrument together with him (the main goal to stop the fight between Palkia and Dialga). The screen time was pretty even between both (with slight advantage of Ash, of course). Plus, the ending of the movie was focused on Dawn's performance in Alamos Town's Contest, which was the entire reason they traveled there.

However, I agree that May also got a pretty good role in her last movie. That's why I chose both.

Dawn's role in the 10th movie was pretty good, which is odd because in the rest of the DP movies she's pretty much forgotten about.
 
Hikari helped Satoshi out in the DP movies a lot. At least she didn't get shoved into an escape capsule in her starring roles.
 
I would've liked May better if she actually sung the lulluby in Movie 6, not just du-du-du it. She has a wonderful voice.
 
Voted for Dawn. Her role in Movie 10 was the most active role ever played by a female protagonist in a movie. She and her pokémon both helped Ash a lot to solve the crisis. Plus her role in Movie 11 was exactly the same as May's role in Movie 9 which itself was exactly the same as Max's role in movie 6 (i.e. pet the cute legendary and watch Ash save the world), so to me Dawn comes out on top as far as having a bigger role. In Movie 12 and 13 though, the writers increasingly treated her as a minor character though.
 
I'm thinking Dawn had the attention in the movies the most. But I can't really say that it was the best. May's was too little and Misty's, well it was times when Ash took over the whole thing when she was there.
 
Well, I voted Misty, just cause of Ash's breef mensioning of her in the 6th movie. It was just too beautiful...

I agree I liked Dawn's roles a lot too though. And her not being shoved into a capsol to await her 'rescuing'. U_U;; I prefer girls who can save themselves and help out :D

The line of Ash mentioning Misty in the Jirachi movie is dub added. I also don't see how that line made you think Misty had a big role. None of the movies she was in focused on her at all.
 
It was dub added?...I shoulda voted for Dawn, then.

I really thought it hinted at aaml...well that solves everything then ^_^;; (man i'm naive i suppose...)
 
Yeah 4kids had a habit of putting in Misty references where they didn't exist in the original. Sometimes I wonder what 4kids was thinking when they did things like this.
 
May then Misty

May: Her bond with Manaphy actually showed how much she progressed. From truly not caring for a Pokemon, to tearing up when one departs from her. Beautiful development honestly.

Misty: I enjoyed her interactions in Movie 2000. Yeah, it didn't focus on her, but her attitude was funny, and it was pretty neat when she saved Ash's life(not from a shipping standpoint at all, but it was pretty neat to see one of Ash's FRIENDS help him out).

I wasn't feeling Dawn's role in the movies, so I didn't put her...still like her though
 
Misty didn't do much in Movie 2 aside from arguing with Melody. She didn't go with Ash to collect the orbs to stop the birds, TR did instead and sacrificed themselves. In fact other you count the shipping subplot she really didn't do much at all.

At least in movie 3 she battled Molly.
 
Even though May had a big role doesn't mean she had the best role. I hate the 9th movie. I say Misty and Dawn in the second and tenth were the best
 
I really wanted to vote for Haruka for her actions in movie 9 but then I remembered how she acted like a whiny coward when Manaphy was kidnapped by that pirate guy...I mean,...she sat there and did NOTHING. What a bimbo...wait, what?!

Hikari's role in movie 10 was the only time in Pokémon movie history when a female character actually did something worthwhile plotwise ( sad, isn't it?) so I had to vote for her ( and because movie 10 is MUCH better than movie 9 :p ).

I can't say anything about Iris in the movies because it is way too early at this moment.
What will the future bring for Iris? I bet nothing considering how little the writers do with her in BW.

And Misty's role, basically bickering with Melody, was a good one? Not only does this account to less than 10 minutes of screentime of the movie, (if you combine the scenes back to back), but Misty didn't really do anything to stop the legendary birds from fighting or go with Ash in the climax of the movie at all.

Although I'll agree Dawn's role in Movie 10 was fine. Too bad her screentime was reduced in the next DP movies.
