I work in a movie theater and every week my cool manager abuses his authority and allows us to use one of the theaters to watch movies or play video games. He doesn't mind anime and recently I've revived his addiction to Pokemon so he asked me to bring in the 10th Pokemon movie since he's become a fan of Dialga and he hadn't seen it. This was the first time any of us had seen a Pokemon movie in theaters since the 2001. It was a lot of fun but I told him that although the 10th movie is cool the Lucario movie is a lot better. He might be willing to let us play another one in the theater.

We talked about showing the Lucario movie because he's never seen it and I personally think it's the best of the series but he also showed interest in watching the first movie and doing a Mystery Science Theater 3000 sort of thing. Both would be in Japanese of course. Which one do you think we should do?

Japanese? Aww.... =(

So I'm assuming neither of you like the dub version? Or your manager doesn't like it? Not that there's anything wrong with watching the Japanese version, lol. That's just me, being the dub fanatic that I am. XD

Anyway, the 8th Pokemon movie is definitely my favorite! It does a really great job of showing you just how close Ash and Pikachu are overall. And the movie also shows you how the two of them can overcome any obstacle to be together again! Also, the music and CGI effects are amazing, in my opinion.

So yeah, I suggest that you guys watch the 8th movie!! ^^

I second the Lucario movie. It really is one of the best ones to watch, even for non-fans.

The first movie would also be good. Not because it's a good movie or anything (personally, it's one of my lowest-ranked Pokemon movies), but because of the whole nostalgia aspect to it.

As far as MST3K...the Manaphy movie is practically begging to be MST3K'd. Or Abridged. One of the two.

Also, glad to hear that you'll be watching the Japanese version. Watching the English version means you'd have to watch the cropped fullscreen version (well, for the first eight movies, anyway), which is a very silly thing to do when watching the movies in a theatre setting.

Lucario's middle part is a little boring. Dialga and Palkia is boring throughout the entire middle until you get to the battling. I would know, since I have shown all the films to a variety of groups.

Your best best is Pokemon 2000, since it has non-stop action. I suppose Lucario would be okay, but only if you show the Japanese version. Entei is also good for people who want a movie that doesn't just focus on the Pokemon themselves.

Sometimes I feel as if I'm the only Pokemon fan who wasn't particularily impressed with Lucario...

My vote goes to Latios and Latias.

My vote goes to Entei. :p By far the best movie.

Between Mewtwo and Lucario, it's Lucario without a doubt.

I think the Entei and Lucario movies had the most story to it, but the Lucario movie had the most character building. As WPM said, the Entei movie is good for people who aren't entirely...knowledgeable about the Pokémon world --- it doesn't focus entirely around them, I mean. I think either movie would be good to show, really.

I like the tenth because not only so many pearlshipping hints (I'm sure he/she isn't interested) but it is action packed, more risk everything to me. Ive seen it over youtube and I am still wondering why Dawn's legs didn't break after that approx 20-25 ft fall.

I would have to say the second movie would work best for a few reasons. One, the series was at the height of its popularity at the time and many of those who see it would most likely remember that movie. Another reason is that as WPM said, the movie is full of action and would not leave anyone bored. The third is that the movie focuses on the characters as much as it does on the Pokemon themselves and everyone would recognize the characters which I am very certain would not be the case with the Lucario movie or any of the Hoenn ones along with the Shinoh one. By saying this I am assuming that these people have not watched the TV series or the movies in many years so this would be the best bet to show.

Oh shit, no kidding. No one outside the fandom would be REMOTELY interested in the relationship/lackthereof of two ten-year-old cartoon characters. Did the very title of the topic sink in for you?

but it is action packed

All I could do was laugh at that. I really like the tenth movie, but you gotta be kidding me. It's one of the least action-packed movies in the franchise.

Ebichuman's boss works for a movie theater. NO ONE, especially someone who is exposed to a ton of movies, or at least several an ungodly amount of times, would go "Well now, look at that! I wonder how she survived a fall like that?!" How many movies or cartoons have you seen? ANY but Pokemon?

Anyway, I got the impression from the first post that they had already seen the tenth movie.

I'd say the second movie. It REALLY is action-packed.

The second one for the Pichu Bros. short.

Actually, the 10th movie is my favorite in Japanese. (With subs, of course.)

The 10th movie is kinda boring, though. Most of the scenes can be switched around and it wouldn't make a difference. They even reuse some shots of Dialga and Palkia fighting throughout the movie, but with different backgrounds so that it doesn't look like it. The movie's plot is so simple they even have to put in 5-6 flashbacks to kill time. At one point, Brock even looks to the Space-Time tower twice and pretty much says both times "hurry up Ash and Dawn."

It's exciting, though, and the ending song is probably the most beautiful ending ever.

There are two reasons why we're not watching any of them dubbed.

1) A majority of the people who would be watching the movie prefer anime and foreign films in general subbed, me being one of them.

2) The first film has a horrible dub. Although now that you mention it, that would only make it more fun to tear apart.

3) Most important of all, the movies have to be in widescreen and I have very little access to most of the English versions of the films in their original aspect ratios. I have a Japanese box set of the films that has the English version of the first 3 movies and I happen to have an Australian release of the 8th movie. But still, I prefer the show in its original language.

I agree. The 10th movie is certainly not the best of the series. But it wasn't the worst of the series and it's still entertaining enough. It was my boss that wanted to watch it. Otherwise I would have picked the 8th movie for that particular night. Look at it this way, at least it's not a as bad as the Celebi movie. That one was just plain horrible.

As for the second movie. It wasn't bad either. The only thing is that most of us have already seen it so I figured the 8th movie would be good because its the best in the series or the 1st movie because almost none of them have seen it in Japanese.

No, you are not. It's my least favourite movie. I even consider it as bad as any anime filler. I can understand why Ash's fans like Lisa love it, but I thought people like Dogasu have better tastes on movies. But I already give it up.

Anyway, I seconded Movie 2. Even though it is not my favourite Pokémon movie (Movie 7 is, but 10 is very close ;-) ), I must admit for someone who's not interested in Pokémon, this movie is really the best choice. And that even comes for dubbed version, whose only weakest point were overdoing of Pokéshipping moments :)
Edit: First Movie in original is not bad idea either. I really hate that movie for a long time, but only until I persuade myself to watch it subbed. After that, it moved in my personal Pokémon Movies ranking somewere to the middle and leave Movie 8 in the very bottom lonely. This show how much 4Kids screw this movie.

If he enjoys Pokemon again you should have him join here. ;D

Anyways, I've only seen up to movie seven so I can't comment on the ones after but I think the second or third would be good.

I was going to say the Japanese version of any of them, but you seemed to beat me to it. I love the original.

As for specifics, 1, 2, 3, or Lucario. Those are the only ones I saw all of, and they were great...and that's just in dub. (I have got to see the first one in Japanese)
