Which Pokémon names are cooler in different languages?

Bouldeneu > Tangrowth
Coudlangue > Lickilicky
Corayon > Corsola
Amonita > Omanyte
Miaouss > Meowth

That's about it. n_n

I wouldn't say that any names are considerably better in either language; both are more suited to be more sensical to each audience. That said, I think many of the Generation I name translations surpassed the original names, particularly those of the Legendary Birds, which just plain suck in Japanese.

yea ain't they just fire, freezer and thunder

You should see some in French, when I talk about pkmn with my French friends, they always use the traditional English names, instead of the translated French ones:

Jigglypuff: Rondoudou...Rondoudou!!!
Squirtle: Carapuce
Charizard: Dracofeu
Charmander: Salamèche

lol, they're kind of ugly but now that I see them, they're based on the exact same concept of the English names. Basically portemanteaus of two different words in relation to the pkmn's caracteristics.

Mareep. In French.

Wattouat - Say it to yourself a few times. You'll (hopefully) get it.

Typhlosion.

Listen to that name.

It conveys a feeling of power. Pure power.

Now listen to the Japanese name: Bakphoon.

Doesn't sound nearly as good, even though it means the same thing. A powerhouse like Typhlosion deserves a powerful name.

I like Beautifly's French name--Charmillion

Yukimenoko > Froslass I vote for too! Mine is named after one f the parts of its jap name.

English to Japanese

Here are some that sound awesome to me in Japanese instead of English...

Charizard = Lizardon
Lickilicky = Berobelt
Magnezone = Jibacoil

Pikachu = Pikachu (haha lol! XD)

i personally prefer all of cyndaquil's evolutionary line's Japanese name to their english
Hinoarashi
Magmarashi
Bakphoon

I don't really like the Japanese names but Missingno's Japanese name, Ketsuban, sounds cool for some reason :).
