Assuming he faces Conway, Nando, Barry and Paul in full 6 vs. 6 pokemon battles in the Sinnoh League and that he only uses the pokemon shown in the new openning, which pokemon should he use and why ?

Conway (known pokemon : Slowking, Aggron et heracross)

Quite frankly, I see this as a premiiminary 3 on 3 battle... but if they do a full 6 vs 6 battle, here's how I see it going... Conway is the supernerd of Pokemon, he is super strategic, so I think Ash will try to use pokemon who are super unpredictable, whether it be because of their uncharacteristic moves or unpredictable way of battling... Gible needs some time to shine in the league and I think it will get it in this match against Ash's arguably weaker opponent...

Therefore Ash should use Gible, Muk, Donphan, Corphish, Torterra and a Sinnoh poke, probably pikachu

Nando (known pokemon : Sunflora, Kricketune and Roselia)

Nando is tricky because is seems to have a fondness for grass and bug type pokemon and he likes to use moves that induce status problem like grasswhistle. I think Ash will first think he can get away with just sending out a fire type, probably Torkoal... nando will defeat it with a status type move and Ash will take Nando more seriously... using a different array of pokemon, finishing with another fire type, cyndaquil.

Therefore Ash should use Torkoal, Staraptor, Buizel, Bayleaf, Snorlax and cyndaquil

Barry (known pokemon Empoleon, Roserade, Staraptor Heracross and probably Rapidash and Snorlax or muchlax)

Barry is tricky because he follows Ash's pattern of having a water type, a grass type, a fire type and the regional bird with having two elemental wild cards... Also he shares some pokemon with Ash and I don't think the writers will do Snorlax v. Snorlax or Staraptor v. Staraptor. I think the writers will try to keep the mirror effect without actually using the same pokemon on both teams...

Therefore Ash should use : Pikachu, Infernape, Totodile, Torterra, Noctowl, Glalie.

Paul (known pokemon Torterra, Magmortar, Electabuzz, Honchcrow, Weavile, Ursaring, Gliscor, Nidoking, etc.)

Paul is the easiest, because Ash will probably use his Sinnoh team as they have an established rivalry with Paul... So Pikachu, Staraptor, Torterra, Buizel and Infernape are definetly there. The question is who's gonna take the 6th spot... Gliscor's absence from the openning makes me think he might not be back. The writers have spoiled everything else why would they hold out on that ? I see gible being the 6th but getting easily and quickly defeated (basically being canon fodder) so the focus will be on the pokemon that have established strong rivalries with Paul's team with Infernape and Pikachu or Torterra starring in the battle.

Therefore Ash should use : Pikachu, Staraptor, Torterra, Buizel, Infernape and Gible.

This way, Ash's reserves all get to participate in one battle and Ash's Sinnoh pokemon will all have starred in at least one battle before facing Paul...

excellent thread. So Barry has a Rapidash? Never knew that, i guess its because i have never played the diamond and pearl games.

We don't know if Monferno is going to evolve!
Where did you get that idea anyway?

Otherwise good match ups. I hope Gible evolves.

I watched it. AWSOME! Do you really think Dawn will get a Togekiss? (She'd have to get a Togepi or a Togetic first.)

Duh.

I honestly do not think Ash is going to use those pokemon featured in the opening in the league. He has such a great team now that it would be kind of pointless to throw them aside and bring back the old boys. I'm sure some of them are in the opening for being Johto pokemon. As for the hoenn ones and muk... well, those seem random.

I don't know they feel way too random to just be the writers choice... I would unerstand if they were only showing Ash's gen 2 and gen 4 pokemon to advertise the games but the presence of gen 1 and gen 3 pokemon smells fishy (and I don't just mean Muk)... This thread is basicaaly me trying to make sense out of that randomness in trying to find reasons why Ash would use those specific pokemon... I mean other than the writers are trying to advertise games...

well it is a possibility that he only uses his sinnoh pokes in the league and then his older ones in the battle frontier, but yeah it does smell fishy. I mean why would Ash'older pokemon be facing against his league rivals? Confusing

They are not doing any advertise of 3 gen only the 4 gen Pokemon that are in the Sinnoh region, and the same goes for the 1 gen and 3 gen its not 1 gen or even related to the 1 gen or the 4 gen, Sinnoh its not Johto or even related to Hoenn in anyway.

I'm surpised that they are bringing back his old Pokemon, atleast they will be use again and as for his Sinnoh team i hope they don't push them to the side like that or it will be bad writing on the writers part.

dont worry, the sinnoh ones will get to shine especially in the battle vs Paul

Yeah that's pretty much what I think will happen ash will probably use 2 or 3 older pokemon per match and the rest will be his Sinnoh pokemon, but will only use his sinnoh pokemon against Paul...
