Looking back over the course of the series, each region introduced us to its own unique brand of gym leaders; Kanto, Orange Islands, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh. Now that Ash has gotten the badges needed to compete in each region’s league tournaments, which one was your favorite?

The Orange Crew was unique because only one of the gyms was a real Pokemon battle (Trovita) and it was 3-on-3. The last gym introduced us to the show’s first official double battle. The other 2 gyms were challenges for trainers to work alongside their Pokemon to win the badge.

The leaders of Sinnoh are possibly my favorite set of Gym Leaders in the series. This is because the leaders were really “life-like” in the sense that most of them had regular problems that you or I face in life. Maylene suffered from a lack of confidence, Roark had father/son problems with Byron, Wake/Candice/Gardenia were all had hyperactive attitudes that made them entertaining to watch along with Fantina’s love of dance and contests. Finally, Volkner’s lack of interest in something that he is especially good at hits home for me. He lost his best friend (Flint) when he went away and his love of battle went with him.

The thing I kind of disliked about some of the gym leaders was their tardiness or turning down matches from challenges namely Ash; Fantina was always gone from the gym for long periods of time (though she was on training trips to strengthen her and her Pokemon, but still she was gone for a LONG time Ash came to the gym multiple times), Maylene and Volkner turned Ash away because of their own issues that prevented them from battling, what kind of gym leader does such a thing? It is hard to think that the Pokemon League would overlook a gym that hasn’t accepted challenges in a long time (Candice said that few people go all the way to Snowpoint so that is different). Candice really doesn’t care if she leaves the gym for extended amounts of times as seen in Double-Team Training. Byron gets distracted by fossils and the same with Roark (talking to them…).

Kanto; my favorite gym leaders were Sabrina and Giovanni (he fought only Gary, but for some reason I just loved that match. Sabrina was a like Paul except her condition started at a young age and what else...she had psychic powers!

Not really much to say about Johto/Hoenn. So what region held your favorite gym leaders?

Sinnoh definitely had the best gym leaders since I felt they were fleshed out the most. Earlier on, they were just figures and weren't given much of a backstory. Sinnoh changed most of that and made it more interesting, IMO.

Anything from Hoenn onwards. Before Hoenn, the Gym Leaders were really bland. Thats not to say that Hoenn didn't have its share of Bland Gym Leaders but it was as much as Kanto and Johto. Most notable were Clair and Jasmine. Their anime personalities were exactly opposite from their game personalities.

Well, Shinou had amazing gym leaders, all lovable and memorable, but I cannot overlook the previous gym leaders from the past. A shame they never thought of redoing a few Kanto Gym Leaders during Battle Frontier saga, such as Natsume(Sabrina) and Erika.

Sinnoh, Byron is my fav because I LOVE DEFENSE.

Haha! Yeah, that episode when Ash fought him came on this morning. The funny part was whenever he said he loved Defense or one of his Pokemon an explosion came from behind him. I also liked the fact that he always kept a shovel in his hand. That was a nice touch because I think he holds one in the games as well.

i picked the last option because

-kanto's gym leaders battles were bad, but i liked how they weren't all super nice and stuff, they somewhat felt like real people.
-Jhoto's gym battles were much better than kanto's but they are my least favorite because they were bland and nothing like their game counterparts.
-hoenn gym leader battles were great.Personality-wise some were handled better whereas some were horrible like tate and liza.
-sinnoh gym leader battles were awesome, most gym leaders had great
personality but some were super annoying like Candice and Gardenia(it's probably because i saw the dub version's of their episodes).

Sinnoh, they were more fleshed out and they felt more like actual characters than gimmicks. Volkner, Maylene, Fantina, Gardenia rank among my favourite anime characters period (not Top 5 but close)

Fantina's OMG moment during the Grand Festival was amazing, just amazing! Volkner/Flint relationship rates pretty high too! Those two are meant to be!

Though I liked Sabrina, Blaine, Whitney, Pryce and a few Hoenn gym leaders too (I liked pretty much everyone except Roxane and Winnona and to a lesser extent Brawly and Tate/Liza)

Sinnoh of course. When compared with other regions, Sinnoh's Gym Leaders had the most characther and they really were more than just totally random trainers waiting Ash to arrive, they actually had more to do. It was really nice to see some of them again after the actual Gym Battle, like Gardenia and Fantina in Grand Festival. Plus battles were really amazing, particulary Ash's both battles against Fantina's Drifblim. I hope writers will focus on Gym Leaders and other important characters even more in Best Wishes, DP really improved the way Gym Leaders were treated in anime.

What was so bad about Tete and Liza?D:

Anyway...arg,I cant vote.I am torn between Hoenn and Sinnoh.Hoenn, because the gym leaders felt exedenly fresh.Sinnoh because they felt like actual people, with likes, dislikes and such.

The problem with Kanto is that ...welll...just like in the games, the gym leaders were pretty boring(Loook at me I am girl who does perfumes I AM SUPER AMAZING RIGHT)...Johto wasn't that much better...

Hmmm.... It's hard for me to choose because I like several of them from all regions, but I'm going to go with Sinnoh. I liked how they had actual personalities and stories that were interesting. And it's cool that we got to see some of them more than once and outside of their gyms. And I also liked all of the gym leaders too, as didn't find any of them annoying.

I liked SInnoh because of hilarity and stories of the past :) and we see them in more than just 1-2 episodes that reside in their gym city

Sinnoh. DP handled the gym leaders best.

And because of that, Maylene is my favorite gym leader...

Although Sinnoh doesn't have my favourite gym leaders in it, overall it was probably the best at showcasing them. They all got backstory, a decent amount of focus and a personality.

To be honest, in the past they rarely gave the leaders personality. Now they have so obviously Sinnoh wins.

I personally loved Roxanne from Hoenn I think Sinnoh was handled the best I like Maylene too cause of the back story and proved to us that Gym Leaders sometimes have confidence issues since they sometimes are beaten and sometimes they win so I'd say Sinnoh showed the humanity of the gym leaders...

Although Norman from Hoen was great but that was probably cause he was May's father meaing that on the hole DP gym leaders rule but Roxanne Roxs!!!
