Let's face it. The pokemon anime has been riddled with both fun and monotonous filler. But which series do you think has the most enjoyable filler?

Personally, I enjoyed the Advanced Generation the most. I know a lot of you will sway towards the Indigo league but let's just write that off to nostalgia. The reason I enjoyed the filler in AG most was because of the characters. I felt that May and Max brought a unique format to the show and mixed things up a bit, which created some brilliant filler. Most noticeably "Do I hear a ralts?", which is one of my favourite filler episodes of the series.

May and Max allowed the other characters good development as the four character format allowed an even split between characters during filler, as opposed to the three character format which heavily relied upon the pokemon themselves to help develop characters.

What are your opinions on the matter?

In terms of pure filler I'd say Kanto and Orange had the most memorable ones.

My favourite fillers are all mainly in Kanto.

These include the episode about Pokemon Tech where they're at a school and Misty beats the kids Weepingbell, Giselles graveler beats misty and cubone loses to Pikachu etc.
Also the Poke exam one, I thought it was really cool to see the Teams swapped and see Ash using Arbok Meowth and Weezing, and see James have a Pikachu Ivysaur and Charizard.
Also for some strange reason I can't explain I liked the princess vs princess one, not the sort of one you'd expect a guy to like but I actually enjoyed it, not sure if this counts as filler though as Jessie caught Lickitung.

Also loved the orange islands and wasn't that basically all filler 100% apart from the episode where he catches Snorlax, as they could have cut the whole thing out apart from that, and it would not have impacted Ash in anyway, however I'm glad that they put it in.

Personally I think Kanto, Orange Islands and Best Wishes have the most consistently entertaining ones. While every series have at least one fantastic filler, I personally think these three are the most consistently enjoyable in terms of filler episodes.

I'm gonna have to go with Kanto. Most of those were really good and memorable.

For me it's a tie between Kanto and Best Wishes.

I've enjoyed most of the fillers in both of this sagas and almost all of them are tolerable, and many of them have also been hilarious. If would have to pick a favorite filler I'd have to go with that Scare at the Litwick Mansion!.

First 5 seasons are best. Advanced is good too. DP is only enjoyable cuz of awesome Elite four. I don't wanna talk about B&W.

I gotta go with Orange Islands. That whole season seemed weird, so that seems most enjoyable. Not to mention I was really enjoying that weird episode about Meowth on that island with those weird Meowth people who I swear wanted to worship him.

Kanto and the Orange Islands. But I guess that's because back then the daily episode formula wasn't getting old. It had a sort of freshness feel.. Now, it's just rinse and repeat.

Yeah Kanto/Orange had some memorable filler, the filler quality gets worse in Johto (although the TR-centric fillers in Johto are really good), and then it just goes from there.

Oddly enough I'd say DP had the worst pure fillers, as its strengths were the plot-centric episodes. The only really good DP fillers was the evil Togepi episode, the Spiritomb episode, and maybe a few others. The DP saga had great plot-centric episodes but pretty dull fillers.

I believe that the reason why many of us think that the Kanto and Orange Island sagas have the best filler episodes is because these were the "original" storylines. These episodes hadn't been replicated before and therefore we get a sense that the quality of the fillers in Kanto were not compromised over time. A lot of the fillers in the Johto, AG, and DP eras had followed the basic story elements that were used for the episodes that aired during the Kanto and Orange Island sagas.

I do agree, however, that the writers have started to increase the general quality and entertainment value of the series's filler episodes during Best Wishes. I felt that the Cottonee episode, the fishing competition episode, the episode with the Dream Thief (if one could count that as a filler), the episode with the four Sawsbuck, the spoiled Gothita episode, the A*Gilder episode (again, this could or could not be a filler, depending on the context), and the Bouffalant episode were among the best fillers that have been created in the entire anime. I believe that these fillers are exponetially more entertaining than almost anything that had been produced in the AG, Kanto Battle Frontier, and DP eras.

I've often said that DP and BW switched off on what they "do good."

DP had the better plot-centric episodes and the better written story, but really bad fillers, while on the other hand BW has good fillers but not-so-great important episodes.

Its actually hard to think of truly good DP fillers...most of the episodes tend to be associated with the main storylines. As I said I think the evil Togepi episode was the only really stand out one from DP, that and maybe "Steamboat Willies."

Best Wishes may be crappy when it comes to "in-depth character development" but it has THE BEST fillers, some times they're actually more fun to watch than the non-filler episodes. Besides BW, I think Advanced Generation had some good episodes.

All sagas had some great fillers. I remember i liked a lot episode "Clayxdol, big and tall" from Hoenn, or hilarious "Where no Togepi has gone before" or "Psyduck, stops here" episodes from DP.

But if i were have to choose i would say original series in general had best fillers imo. They were more often than not very interesting something going for them, introduced unique characters and brought that lighthearted humor serving as nice break from Ash gym quest. Like in Kanto "Ancient Puzzle of Pokemopolis" about giant Gegar and Alakazam, "Island of Giant Pokemon", "Ghost of Maiden Peak" etc which were wacky and out of place. Or that episode with ghost ship and previous captain reincarnating through Ghastly and Haunter from Orange Islands.

Johto had many fillers, but many were great and actually entertaining being underrated as hell. Like "Little Big Horn" or "Just waiting on a friend" being about 1000 year old Ninetales , "For Crying Out Loud" where Misty bonded with Marill, "Hook, line and Stinker" or "Unbearable" which was hilarious with Teddiursa thief. "Hocus pokemon" which was unique turning Ash into Pikachu, "Wobu Palooza" or "Will real prof. Oak please stand up" etc.

Kanto has some really dumb episodes but I don't see myself rewatching filler of other region at all or as much as Kanto so Kanto.
