Which style of Pokemon artwork do you prefer?

Do you prefer the anime style artwork or the game style artwork?

The game style:

or the anime style:

My answer would be the anime style. To me, it just looks better. I like the vivid colors on the characters. Plus, I prefer the anime to the other Pokemon media. Finally, and this is a big one, the Generation 2/Johto Pokemon don't look out of place next to the other three generations in the anime style, while the game style artwork for the Gen 2 Pokemon look seriously out of place next the other three. Take a look at this artwork for Meganium and compare it to Pikachu:

So what do you guys prefer?

game by far, the anime ones are just to simplistic, I can do that on paint
plus game art came first, anime is just a less detailed version

game....it's got more texture and color....and it look better

(but this n00b made a mistake and clicked Anime ._.

oh you poor poke-noob, the reason you say this is because Gen 2 is old and the art is as such, Gen 1 pokemon originally looked old to, just the whole fire red and leaf green thing came around and they did new art for all the pokemon.

this mistake annoys me especially (being an artist) :smokin:

Those gen 2 Pokémon that haven't seriously need some new stock Sugimori art. Way too much emphasis on white. Wobbuffet's in particular irks me.

Eeh, I guess from an artistic standpoint I prefer the game art, even though the anime counterparts have their own charm. But that doesn't mean I would want the anime DVDs to have that art on the covers or anything. Because that would be just plain annoying.

the anime only looks good when its moving, honestly though I think the anime art kinda sucks when you look at stills...

I prefer the game's art because I like Sugimori's style. I even like the old watercolor pictures, but the new ones I do admit to prefer... I just like his drawing style, it has a combination modern and retro (well, 90s/80s retro) feeling to them.

I know that the Gen 1 art used to look the Gen 2 and that it got updated with FireRed and LeafGreen. I'm not a newbie or Poke-Noob.

That's what I meant: The Gen 2 game art needs to be updated to fit with the other three (looks even worse if a Gen 2 Pokemon is next to an evolution from another Gen).

Yeah, it is simplistic (nothing's perfect). On the other hand, it'd be easier to make pictures of Shiny Pokemon in paint with the anime style (I know, not the big a deal. Just saying :))

I like the anime art over the game art but really, I prefer old school Sugimori. I don't like the new style. Way too much emphasis on the color gray. I swear some Pokemon have gray for "shine" which looks really dreary. The white of the old art makes Sugimori art look "Sugimori"

It doesn't really matter to me. I like both styles since they're both cool in their own ways. =] So I'm the first, and so far only, one to click on 'doesn't matter' in the polls.

If you asked me this two generations ago: Anime, but the art now is really nice. The whole water-colourness of the old art and the way the human characters were drawn just didn't look nice to me.

I say the game art is better. In my opinion, it seems Ken Sugimori spent more time on the game art then whoever did the anime one, therefore more credit is due. :3

Game. Totally game. It's somewhat more quirky and detailed, particularly some of the older stuff.

That's not to say I don't like the anime stuff though, it's great too.

Game! But I prefer the actual anime over the actual games ^^;
